Ok I’ve only been saying this forever. I agree that all crappy venue and small tournaments have discouraged and lost people's interest in smash on all levels of play.

It seems now that people from different areas should put whatever effort into tournaments (not all these scattered efforts and people who host tournaments that claim their tournament will be the next biggest thing cause there are already 10 places already doing that), find a nice place/venue to host it at even if it requires an entry fee for the place, cause it still beats just paying 15 dollars for singles and 10 for teams:mad:, a central location that is convenient for EVERYONE , advertise like crazy (friends get friends/anyone with OOS connections/smashboards), vote on the best time (a time that the majority will be ok with), housing (come on if ya’ll want this to be big someone’s gotta step forward), and of course the big promising pot, cause thats what its alll about. If something actually happens it’s obvious that the entry fee would actually be bigger.

It seems like a lot but with enough DETERMINED and OPTIMISTIC people actually helping out it can be possible. Other than the MLG and MOAST series there have been other successful tournaments like S.E.X, Bluefork, WTYM, HOST, The Valley and some Joe Michael tournaments.

also LOLLLLLZZZZZZZZZZ at texas smashers not being good enough. rob and cave stopped going to MLG tournaments and STILL ended up ranked top 16 over all...Wes went to ONE MLG and made the national mlg power rankings. at MLG dallas last year, how many texans went pro (making top 32)??? AZ, KEN, ISAI, PC Chris, DSF, even other players like mike g and eddie have all came to texas outside of MLG. Its kinda lame to say that no OOS players would come to texas. We'll just have to use the power of $$$$ lol.

Someone should make a thread to solely encourage ideas to make a really big Texas tournament. How does hosting a few bi-weeklies in different areas to save for the one BIG tournament sound? Sort of like what the MOAST circuit was suppose to do. I’d like opinions guys. I would totally be up for helping out or participating in some way. So start looking for venues guyssss and save save save.

I'm totally with Smiles. I'd be completely willing to go to a tournament where the venue required some sort of cut if I knew that it would be a better place and would attract more people. That just makes sense for the vast majority of players, anyway: the entry fee would either be the same as usual, or insignificantly increased, and the total pot (assuming the same number of players as usual attended) would be smaller, but no one outside the top 3 is going to win money anyway, so you put in the same to get better results. For the better players who will actually stand a chance at winning money, a better venue and tournament would attract more people and would raise the pot, even with the cut for the venue, and would attract more interesting competition besides, which is really what competitive gaming is all about (although I love money at least as much as anyone).

In terms of housing, it would seem that the best place to hold the tournament would be either SA or Houston, but I'd totally let a person of two sleep on my concrete floor in my dorm if it were in Austin. No need to thank me; just doing my part. In my dorm, you won't even have to spray a moat of ant poison around your sleeping bag, like I did the first time I stayed a night at UT in my brother's dorm. Our AC is excellent, also. We have good chairs which are dedicated sitting chairs--none of that standing nonsense, which I always say should be reserved for stools, or the fluffy rocking stuff which must certainly have been invented by the French.
