Hey everyone, it's me again with another thread. Shocker.

Introduction

Basically, what this thread is supposed to do is to log your placings in local and national tournaments. Please note this assumes you're primarily playing Zelda. In the primary section, we'll try to have notable rankings, which is an ambiguous term as of now. With some discussion, we'll be able to come up with a concrete definition and decide who goes in this section. The secondary section will report your results no matter how good or bad you did, for the purpose of putting your name up on the board and just to track overall activity of Zeldas in tournaments. So it's not as rankings based but has a plethora of other applications--you could find out that person goes to a lot of tournaments near you, and make new friends or rivals!

But I'm getting ahead of myself. What should be done now is describing a "notable result." A good starting point would be to describe what percentile qualifies as significant.

As for actual logging, please report your tag, the name of the tournament, how many players in the tournament, if any notable players were there and if you beat them (not super necessary, but interesting to know), what you placed, and the location of the tournament, and the date(s) of it if you can. What's most important is the ranking, tag, and placing out of how many players, but the other info is appreciated. Links to threads of the tournament results are appreciated as well.

IN ORDER, if you could, ideally it would be like this. Tag, Placing out of How Many Players, Tournament Name, Location, Date, and any notable players and if you beat them, and finally a link to the results if you have it. So an example citation would be:

TimeSmash: 7th out of 39; Upstate Battle Series 11; Rochester, NY; 2/21/2015; No Notable Players; http://smashboards.com/resultspageoftorunament

THIS format can be used if you want to type less, and also provides how it would look if you had someone notable at your event

TimeSmash: 7th (39); Upstate Battle Series 11; Rochester, NY; 2/21/2015; Notable Players: Mango, didn't beat; http://smashboards.com/resultspageoftorunament

As for the actual syntax (semicolons, underlined/italic font) it's not super necessary that you include it, as I can format it later. I may try to see if someone can co-mod this thread with me, just to make things easier in general.

Without further rambling, let's get started!

Primary Section: Notable Results
If you see three spoilers, the third is the real one. Dunno why there are three all of a sudden, as I only wrote and retained the script for one

Awesome, thanks for posting so quickly!

So what we should we define as notable? Obviously yours is (9th out of 56), but what should we define as a cutoff? Like is the top 20% considered notable or is the top 25% or possibly 15% the cutoff?

Wait I was in Rochester on the 21st...WHY DIDNT I KNOW THERE WAS A TOURNAMENT

I guess I saw Bo Burnham at RIT instead, so I can't complain.

Edit: As for something relevant to the purpose of this thread: I feel like I have notable tournament results, but a) I like being humble and do not want to thrust them in front of anyone, b) they are mostly 3.02, and c) I don't think I will be competing for awhile. So I don't really have much to contribute in that area.

I am from Massachusetts, in case anyone wants to Smash around here. I usually run Smashing Grounds, so while you will rarely see me on the stream (I am usually too busy TOing to play or commentate) I still encourage you to check it out!

I have friends out there. I might come visit them again at some point, but I'm strapped for cash right now.

Edit: Again, to be relevant to the actual thread, what tournaments are considered relevant? Weeklies? Monthlies? Regionals? Nationals? 3.02? 3.5? 2015?

is it necessary to include x-wt (win tie)? 3rd and 5th places will always be a tied spot, as will every place that follows :/ Shouldn't be applicable unless it was a tourney that ended early and the winning spot was split or something imo

The w-t stands for way-tie as in multiple people tied for that standing.

yup ik. But that'll end up being the case fpr all possible rankings after 4th place using the traditional tourney bracket systems lol...there's always gonna be:

01 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
02 5ths and 7ths
04 9ths and 13ths,
08 17ths and 25ths
16 33rds and 49ths,

...and so on. Now I'm all for us never having to use w-t by just always getting in the top 4, but otherwise it seems a bit redundant :/

Your point being that if you didn't place high enough to win part of the pot, then whether or not you had the same record as other losers is irrelevant. I get it. :)
; n; why you gotta say it meanly like that lol. But yeah; if our goal in this thread is to keep a record of placings, we should follow traditional notation for recording them. In tournament placement listings, they don't list places as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 2-w-t 5th, 2-w-t 7th, 4-w-t 9th... for a reason lol. Extra notation is only necessary to clarify something that's out of the ordinary, and the only case I can think of for -w-t would be if the top 5 decided to call it off and split the winnings, like in the example I gave where a tourney was going way past the originally set endtime and people needed to go to bed for work the next day or something. That would be a 5-w-t 1st, which would be appropriate because that isn't what happens by normal rules. It highlights an exception that should probably be pointed out.

What if the tournament is round robin or swiss? I think saying ties is useful.

Sorry I have yet to post in this thread, time for a little Spring cleaning. Here are my placements from the monthlies that have emerged in Oregon this past year. I'm aiming for top 5 at Fight or Flight 2 which is tomorrow so we'll see. I consistently get top 3 at Smash House Rock (Portland's premier PM weekly) and we get roughly 20 entrants each week. I don't think these placements are as relevant as monthlies and I've attended over twenty SHR's so it's not really worth listing.

Why don't you upload them yourself so you don't need to watch vods? It's good to know the process.
I know how but I don't want to 'steal' the video from the channel. Maybe I should ask about that, though.

Finally updated this so I don't feel guilty!!! Everyone thank you for following format, it makes things SO much easier when editing the OP

I've been thinking of combining the Notable Section with the General section since it's hard to come up with a definition of notable. Thoughts??

I'm not sure how you're determining notable right now. Like I have a 1st place result that I posted, but its not notable (while all of my other performances are)???

Also have more results.
