First of all I have no idea if anyone else knows about this, or if they do how widespread knowledge it is, but I thought this was really cool when it happened to me, so I thought I'd post it.

NOTE:This has only happened to me ONCE, and my copy of melee is with someone else so I haven't gotten a chance to practice this, but as soon as I do I'll try to do so with mines and put a video up.

ANYWAYS, the other day I was playing as Falco against a Marth, and was caught in yet another of those sucky moments when you're in the start up lag of your Up+B and just waiting to wall-tech. As I wallteched, my finger accidentally hit the B button. To all of our surprise, after the tech I IMMEDIATELY illusioned to grab the edge, while Marth was STILL in forward smash lag.

I didn't think much about it until I was up thinking about it last night, realizing how useful it could be to not have to drop down and walltech. All those times where I'm stuck wallteching OVER and OVER against something like Marth's Fsmash/Shieldbreaker, or teching the Fsmash just to die to a flubbed dtilt tech, could be stopped after that first one.

So I'm asking you guys a favor, until I can get mine. Would you all try it and see if this is actually repeatable by someone (I'm guessing it is). I feel like the timing would have to be such as RIGHT as you came out of teching animation to hit B, maybe even buffering the B as you tech, but as I said I haven't been able to try to practice it.

TLDR version-
I wallteched a Marth Fsmash on FD, and accidentally phantasmed/illusioned (whatever it's called) without dropping at all, or dropping just a very small amount, succesfully grabbing the edge while marth was stuck in lag (dunno if this works against Dtilt, or how high you have to be when you tech)

Thanks!

Many people know of this tech and use it often, but there's a better option. You can wall jump tech (so you gain a bit of height) then phantasm onto the stage while the Marth is still in his Fsmash animation rather than phantasming into the ledge.

xJin, if you phantasm to the stage you can get up with a ledge hop drill, provided you expect it to happen and can do it consistently you could probably get more damage out of that than simply hitting marth with a phantasm.

....or you can go the sexy route and wall tech jump > immediate bair and hit him away from the ledge

i once saw a wjtech-bair that killed the opponent at 2xx% =P

yeah instant phantasm are pretty useful, but it takes some practice to do it consistently..... like everything in smash .... and with smash i mean melee

Heh. I just haven't ever seen it used before, and it was alot quicker than a tech jump, which more often than not will kill you. Also, if you phantasm a Marth stuck in Fsmash animation, who is either holding down, or smashDI techs, I'm pretty sure that's a free grab for him. Depending on your percentage and knowledge of DI, this can be an Up throw to all kinds of nasty things.

I play against Marth's too much = (

if you watch dashizwiz's battles with cort in singles and his battles with cort and m2k in doubles you will see shiz usually teching peach's downsmash then go to an immediate phantasm....but every time he tried this he failed bc another peach downsmash was thrown at him and instantly killed him.....i think your best bet is to do a wall jump tech and then do a raised phantasm.....therefore if you were hit by a peach downsmash you would be able to most likely DI onto the stage

That really only applies to Peach's dsmash, which has little start up, little after lag, huge duration, and vacuum properties. Against Marth, jump teching from the ledge into a phantasm can be stopped by jab.

Being able to do any type of ledge tech and follow up is useful, per situation.

When I read vacuum properties I just started laughing. Man that move is so broken.
