Team partners for Marth

Sorry if something like this was already posted, I haven't seen anything similar to this post.

Me and a friend are thinking about going to a doubles tournament. I'm nowhere as good as my Marth on any other character, so we're trying to decide which character my friend should play.

His best characters are Toon Link and Ice Climbers, although he is decent with a few other characters like Lucario and Sonic (but not quite as good).

Is IC or TLink a good partner for Marth? And if so, what are some good team strategies for them to use?

I'd say TL for near sure. His camping prowess with Marth having his back = win. Two swords, lots of speed & priority on your team. IC just slows down the pace. True, grab combos= ****, but this is nerfed dramatically in a team match.

TL all day.

I think Snake is the best partner for Marth. They're polar opposites. Snake camps and peppers while Marth cracks some skulls. However, this take some practice and a lot of communication if Freindly Fire is on. But it's worth it. As for IC and TL, I'm not really sure. They're both kind of similar to Marth is combat range, so you'll probably have to try and split up the other team and fight them one on one. I'd go with TL, but that's just me. Don't have to worry about losing or even team killing Nana. Sonic's speed might work well to set them up to get aerialed by Marth. But whatever you do be sure PRACTICE as a team before you go to the tournament. Even if its against CP's.

I guess TLink is my best bet so far...But crazn you may want to start a thread about strategies with marth and these characters.

Guys, we're limited to choosing Toon Link or Ice Climbers as his partner, no other suggestions from the look of it will suffice the teammates.

I'd say Toon Link, as ICs' grabs can be interrupted by the foe's partner, and very likely you as well. Needless to say, Ice Climbers have it tough if they're ganged up on. They have some decent camping, and they have strong attacks...Marth can already kill, so why not TL?

But with Toon Link, you have to be very aware of each others' actions. Toon Link will likely spam a lot and only enter the fray if Marth's getting ganged up on (usually to Bair/Nair/Fair the foes away to give Marth some breathing space). Therefore, it has to be intelligent spamming, meant to damage the foes so Marth can kill, not for Marth to be killed.

Well-communicated gameplans can allow Toon Link and Marth to control the entire match. If one wanted to, Toon Link could be the dominating force in the air, and Marth on the ground.

Also, Toon Link use his bombs to save Marth, in case he gets gimped (Marth can't quite do the same, but TL has decent recovery anyway). On stages like Battlefield and Smashville, TL's Up+B can drag Marth along to save him (although on FD, you might stage spike him instead).

The combination has a lot potential, so why not go for it?

Go for it.

Thanks for the reply. There is a doubles and singles tournament we're going to this Saturday. Its cutting it extremely close, but why not go to doubles if we're already going to singles? =D

Personally, I would go with Toon Link for your partner. Since your friend uses Toon Link, it makes it all the easier. By the way, we still never battled yet.

*looks at the big picture*

Meta is marth's best partner, they have several smooth and easy to pull off COMBOS together.

meta has a moveset that is perfect for setting people up for some uairs and fairs (such as the nado and dthrow). Not to mention, he is a ******. This means that it is relatively easy to avoid hitting him during the follow ups that Marth can do after Meta's set up. He is also phenomenal at breaking it up when Marth gets stuck against 2 people.

Did i mention that they are 2 of the best edgeguarding characters in the game?!? lol, adds to their team dynamics if you couldnt guess.

This 'theory' is not untested. Team "sexy legs" (Roy_R + Stiltzskin) utilize this team beautifully i must say, winning several doubles tournaments.

Although neither have projectiles, they make up for it with high land speed, flowing moves, strong air attacks, edgeguarding capabilities, and sheer Win-ness.

The team's best stage is battlefield.

the way takeurlife actually describes how the Mk and marth should be played. The first time i ever teamed with a Metaknight was at Critical hit 3 and we got 9th so the team has potential. i think having metaknight on the job of sending his opponents in the air is perfect where marth could easily use his aerials to kill. Metaknight would be the character the racks up damage if he isnt getting the gimpable kills. Marth and metaknight should be tested out more imo i will ask my partner korn if he wants to team more so i can get more info on this team

TL

his projectiles will be useful since marth is handicaped in that area

True, TL can camp and spam charged arrows and boomerang and then go in and bomb from the air, and go in and use smashes if needed. IC's aren't a great team with Marth. If you could, go MK, but if not, then TL of those two.:)

hahah im srry thats just not right saying only 2 characters outweigh all the others as compatibility. unless you know that much about the other characters to say these 2 are best i would say marth has a good healthy picking of teammates

Has anyone seen the utube vid of a mario / marth team?

basically, Mario charges up his water thing..."fludd" er whatever, and Marth sits there charging up his shield breaker, then mario uses fludd to PUSH MARTH toward the unsuspecting opponent and u can guess the rest

srry for interpreting this as a Team partners thread where we talk about all his good partners.

i would suggest TL for you Byron since i dont see the ICs being a stable and safe partner because you never know if the Ics will kill the marth with a bad timed foward smash

Same goes for TL but i thnk its more safe since he'll be a bit more spammy

Don't forget the Pink Marshmellow named Kirby.
His Shield Breaker have less frames than the original, he can swallow you and split to combos or finishers.

Seriously, there are 2 choices, not 35 to choose from! These combos you guys are throwing out there sound great, but Crazn and Byronman have limited it to 2 characters Byron is good with, so seriosly stop saying mario and kirby!
