With so many different card games out there: Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh, Magic, Naruto, and...dare I say it?...The Official X-men Trading Card Game; I wonder which game you prefer? I mean out of ALL of them! Even Baseball Cards. I don't pick favorites, so I want to hear what you think. And I am sorry if there is already a thread like this, I am too lazy to use the Find bar.

I play Magic. Some folks tell me that "Spoils is better!!!!" but I don't particularly care. I'm enjoying Magic enough. Or, I suppose, I've put too much money into it to switch over now.

Hmm.
I've played Pokemon, Yu-Gi Oh and Magic, but I don't
play any of them anymore because I don't have anyone
to play with.
Have you noticed that all of these games seem to have
phases in which they're THE thing to do?
Magic was first...then Pokemon lasted for a long while,
and then Yu-Gi Oh took over. All of them are still widely
played, but they're not that game that it seems like EVERYONE
is playing...

I used to play MtG, but right now I'm playing Maple Story. You can go from winning with three times the HP of your opponent to dead in just two turns. The game is so random.

I started out with Magic: The Gathering way back in the day, like 5th grade but that fizzled out around here. I love Pokemon a lot. I don't play much anymore; like I don't buy boosters or keep up my deck, but my friends and I go to Pre-release tournaments because they're cheap and fun.

I played Yu-Gi-Oh for a long time. I got really good around when I was 13 and actually beat the person ranked 3rd in the world. That qualified me for nationals. And some 30 year old payed me $20 for a list of the cards in my deck.
Anyway, the nationals were only 2 hours away, so I went. I dropped out with the very respectable record of 0-4.

That was peak of my career. I don't play anymore because I don't really have the time or money.

I had two Magic the Gathering phases. They lasted about 3 months each and cost me about $200. I have like 1500 cards in a box in the corner of my room (I made a few totally awesome decks), but I haven't even looked at them or thought about them for the past like 3 years.

When playing that game, the most fun I had was in creating decks, not actually playing it. I'd make piles of the different colors, stare at them, pick up this card, throw away that card--I could concentrate for hours on that. It's sort of like a high-level problem-solving thing when you're creating the best deck possible with the cards you own. Right up my alley.

I agree. Designing decks was always really fun.

I played Magic from 6th to 8th grade when it got boring to play. The game was a blast, but as they kept adding new cards which no old cards could counter, it got way too expensive to play.

Reviving myself.
I usually play poker with my cards... 'Course, that's just me... and some friends... and cousins... and Pops of course. Pops and I also like the occassional game of Rummy... and Chess.

Other than that, nope, no card games. Wait, I saw Magic being mentioned. I do have magic cards. I can find an Ace of Spades so easily and quickly, it'd make you spurt colored eggs instead of stool.

Ha! Me too! I had all the original 151 pokemon cards (including 4 Charizards) but my mom "accidentally" threw them away...all I have left is a mediocre Electric DECK

I've played MTG and Yu-Gi-Oh, my personal favorite was magic, way cheaper and more entertaining. Actually I still play Yu-gi-oh, but thats because I have a.. weird.. friend which likes too much the game and the anime, and keeps giving me cards for christmas, b-day, etc... he even thinks he is "Jaden" the main character from Yu gi oh GX anime..... but I don't plan expending money on that TCG.

actually..i'm pretty sure cardgames aren't in. Yes, some people play them, but it sure as hell seems like they've been on the decline.

They were probably at their height right when yugioh came out (but pokemon was still big), and the hardcore were still at magic. (pretty much all other card games suck, no offense. maybe they're fun..but they don't have the communities to back them up)

i played pokemon pretty seriously. and built some tournament-worthy decks. My final deck, knowing future sets of cards would become too powerful normally to beat, i designed to take out decks better than itself. Its comprosied of clefables, dittos, igglybuff, old promo mewtwo, and jungle mime, and 4 super energy removal and 4 energy removal. (and the rest ofthe deck revolving around the same theme: use the oponents own card abilities against it, while keeping them unable to attack.
recycle/potion/fullheal/double colorless energy(since it requires so few psychics)
and all the top tier trainers: scoopups, oaks, elms, gust of wind, itemfinder..............
and a Plus Power. i think every deck should have a single plus power. cuz u never know when u need just 10 more damage to save your ***. computer search that *****.

i know every deck has a weakness and can be countered..but from my experience that one, at the least, can still stand up to many of these new overpowered decks :/

Yu-Gi-Oh is a game where I can honestly say there is no skill involved. I played with the Gayest Decks in the format. Demise and Chaos (When it was Legal) and really all you had to do was top deck. I played against high ranked NY players who thought out their moves and I would just draw luckily and win.

The game doesn't appeal to me anymore because it is so luck based. Also I don't believe Santini for a second. I beat the 3rd best in the world at the time then went 0-4. Video or it didn't happen.

Also MTG that is a fun game. I played for awhile with Tooth and Nail. I remember qualifying with my friend Kiyan a few years ago but we didn't go because we didn't know. lol. But it got to expensive for me now. So I sold my stuffs and now only play Smash.

california... knows how to party
i used to play magic semi competitively, i won a few of the tournaments i entered. I played an affinity deck, a rg goblin plow (my own creation), and a green rush deck (i mostly played legacy and extended formats). I used to be on gamingetc forums, but gamingetc is almost dead these days its sad it was a good forum good people and a small amount of users so you knew most people. Anybody else here on gamingetc... crimson king you wouldn't happen to be crimson golem would you?

I've played pretty much every card game, and I can honestly say, that I have only spent 300$ on cards.

Because I would always play against people for different type of cards, so I would eventually get enough to build a deck in that game as well, and in that game, I would win cards for others games.

I still play Yu-Gi-OH with a friend, but only for laughs, because we used to be obsessed with it.

Magic and Yugioh.

Tho in all honesty, YGO takes no skill to play, and is typically an OTK deck game. Kinda.

Magic is probably the most skill demanding game out there. I usually but and play more Magic than YGO now these days.

With what you stated, I don't know why you don't believe me. The game is all luck at that level. I agree. That is why I quit. Everyone has the same cards, and luck of the draw is what determines the winner. I got lucky when I played the guy ranked 3rd in the world, but got some bad draws at nationals.

And they definitely don't take any videos at local regional tournaments or at the start of nationals. There's hundreds of matches going on. But honestly, I don't care who believes me, as I don't even play anymore. I was just posting a little story in a relevant thread.

I don't play any but I used to play Pokemon [because I didn't know any better] and I thought about getting into Yugioh. Magic looks interesting but I'm not in a position to buy cards to build up a deck.

I used to play Pokemon a lot, but I only had one friend to play with, and I didn't really have the money to buy a lot of cards. I did make my own deck, and beating my friend with it over and over(he wasn't too bright)and seeing his reactions were nice.

I never played MtG, but when I was little I used to look through my brother's cards because I loved all the pictures.

I've been playing Magic for about four years now, and the one thing that keeps me going is the online community, specifically the T2 forums on Wizards.com, because I only know one or two people who actually play.

Actually, I'm going to a tournament tonight. RBW Snow Jank FTW!!

Oh, god. TCGs...

First of all, I started collecting (not playing) Pokemon cards when I was around 7, collecting until I was a little after 9.

Then there was Yugioh, which I started a little before I stopped collecting Pokemon cards. I remembered loving them due to the almost extreme difference between the two CGs. I would make multiple decks, battle them against each other if I was ever bored. I would draw and design some. I'd attend tournaments. Buy a pack every time I went to a gas station, store, etc. It was like smoking. I suppose I lost interest when I turned 13.

Of course, I dabbled for a short time in Digimon and Duel Masters a little bit after, each of which I grew tired of within months. Then I bought some WoW cards a few months ago, then threw them out after asking myself 'wtf am I doing?'

In terms of Magic, I never got into it, although I've watched my friend Vlad at tournaments on occasion (he's REALLY into it; too into it :p)

I liked Yugioh a lot because it was one that actually involved good strategy while playing and it was fun building decks. Pokemon I collected becasue it was during the Pokemon craze and EVERYONE at my school had Pokemon cards at the time. As for Magic, I never really got into it. I never knew anyone that played it until just recently and TCGs just don't interest me anymore like they used to.
