I'm really hoping the new Sonic game is good, like I'm REALLY hoping it is. If it isn't... Well can't say it wasn't unexpected, but I'm really hoping I can say the opposite, just please Sonic Team, PLEASE don't fail me this time!

So out of couristy does anyone believe either sonic leak?
The recent 4chan one has already been confirmed fake, both by people digging and the leaker later admitting to it.

The TSSZ source may have more credibility though.

And the old 4chan leak from over a year ago (the "Digital Sonic 25" one) has some credibility too, as it both detailed Sonic Runners to a tee before it was announced, and detailed story details of Rise of Lyric before it came out, and they were pretty spot on too.

It was deconfirmed? Hope you don't mind if I ask but could I have a link, if not then I completely understand.

Some people think Fire Emblem's representation is at the same level as Mario, Pokémon and Zelda... Not true.

Some statistics:
Series|Characters|Alt. costumes|Stages|Music|Items|Assists|Enemies|Trophies
Mario|7|7|13|71|20|4|14|159
The Legend of Zelda|5|0|7|34|8|4|7|85
Pokémon|6|0|4|24|2|40|5|109
Fire Emblem|6|2|3|23|0|1|0|34

It goes without saying that FE does have a similar amount of characters (tied with Pokémon, placing it between Mario and Zelda), but I don't feel the game is implying in any way that FE is bigger than the other series considering the total amount of FE content in Smash isn't nearly as much as the other series' respective content.

By the way, I'm using this data for a personal project of mine... Whatever it might be. ;)

But Frosty-senpai! Everyone knows that only the playable characters count as representation!

You say that as sarcasm, but honestly new items will never be comparable to a new character, nor is recycled trophies from other games.

Stages are cool though. I really like Gerudo Valley and Skyloft.
I hope the next console Smash game has Gerudo Valley.

To clarify, the recent 4chan leak I refer to is this one (I didn't proof read for swearing as I was just about to get off my laptop but I don't think it had any. If it does, I've spoiler'd it in case it does):

But anyway, aside from the leaker flat out saying it was fake, their big proof was literally just a poor Photoshop of this:

That is a real SEGA Employee ID card from a real (former) employee, but the leaker tried to photoshop it with changed details, most of which were simply blurred out. And people caught on to it pretty quickly.

Also he was posting screenshots like this claiming they were from Sonic Adventure 3:

But that's actually Twilightzoney's upcoming Green Forest mod for Sonic Generations PC (with other graphics mods in place like Ambient Occlusion).

And here is where he admits to it.

So yeah the leak is fake and ***.

But Frosty-senpai! Everyone knows that only the playable characters count as representation!
I know you're taking a stab at people who don't count it but honestly.

If the purpose of this project is to "show people how much representation the series' actually have", in order to stop people from complaining about FE or Kid Icarus representation or whatever, I don't see the point.

Because we know full well that when most people say "representation", they just mean characters. The characters are what sell the game, and even more so, sell standalone DLC.

Basically while this project may outline the distribution of the content different franchises have in Smash, it isn't going to change anyone's opinion. People are just referring to and only care about the characters at the end of the day.

It could be useful for fan sites/data bases of the series' though, like the Fire Emblem Wiki now having these numbers to post about FE in Smash.

Though I did find it strange that Sakurai specifically said that he dropped Takamaru due to unfamiliarity in the West, yet he included a character that was nearly unknown to Western audiences entirely... And he costs $5.00! Takamaru had at least appeared in Nintendo games in the West before Smash Bros.

Remember when people were pissed about all the kid icuras content when the 3ds version was first released? Good times. And yet, now people say that people have only ever cared sbout character representation. I mean, I don't deny it's what stands out the most in terms of representation, but mmmm......

Lol.
Well...Corrin is a promotional character. Takamaru had nothing to promote.

(Unless you count a VC release as an upcoming game...which probably wasn't in the works when Smash development started as they didn't do much to it)

By the way, I will be using a sort of point system, so the raw data may give off a different perception.

And, of course, characters will count as the most points, followed by stages. Those are the two elements with the most complexity and work put into.

Assists and enemies will all count the same, as they're non-playable characters with some degree of complexity and have interactivity as well. Not sure about Mii outfits, items and music, but I've decided that trophies will count the least amount and I will probably exclude trophies of content that always warrants them (namely, playable characters, NPCs and items).

I am looking forward to compiling all the data and see how will things amount to.

I'll be doing this for all 4 Smash games, for every series with playable characters in any of the Smash titles to see how things have progressed.

It's something that's been on my mind for a while, actually, but now that all DLC content has been revealed, I now have all the data I need to advance with this.

All this said, I shall be off. See ya.

Can I ask a favour of any of you guys that have a Twitter account?

It's nothing major so I'll post it publicly.

I basically just want someone to ask the Yacht Club Games Twitter (they take questions), if the Shovel Knight Amiibo is getting any stock distributed to the Republic of Ireland.

I checked my local GameStop today for pre-orders on both him and Lucas, who are supposed to come out on Friday, and there was nothing there, and they haven't had pre-orders up ever.

I've always had to deal with situations like this regarding Amiibo (sometimes they come, sometimes they don't), but since YCG is more willing to interact and accept questions than Nintendo would be, I may as well take advantage of that.

I ask because I don't have a Twitter account and don't feel like making one.

Whatever your project is, I would really like a full copy of the data as soon as you're at liberty to share it.

I'm the type of person who loves Smash data and hates having to be the one to compile it. :awesome:

Ignoring the obvious complaining over Corrin again, I will point out that Sakurai did NOT decide against Takamaru for his lack of Western familiarity.
It was due to a lack of popularity.

And before you try to pull "BUT CORRIN WAS HARDLY POPULAR" as an inevitable counterpoint, it should also be pointed out that Corrin wasn't added for popularity reasoning.

Does anyone think that this character was in a good position as a promotional character?

Here's why I'm asking this, Project X Zone 2 was released in Japan on November 12th 2015,

By April or July, I think that they may've planned a release date for the game's release in Japan, now considering the game's developers (Monolith Soft) I think Fiora may've been added to the game early on courtesy of them, and considering the publisher (Bandai-Namco) were the ones developing Smash, negotiations would've been mostly easy, so I wonder, why not her? Not to mention that she's the only Nintendo character to appear in that game and not have a major role in Smash, unlike these two,

So it just seemed like perfect timing, so why not her?

Fiora is in Project X Zone 2 because the game is developed by Monolith Soft, who also developed Xenoblade Chronicles. She isn't there for promotional reasons but because she comes from a game made by the same team as this game, so it's an easy addition.

Shulk and Fiora are the default mascots of Xenoblade Chronicles since they hold the most importance in it's story. Smash got Shulk, so Fiora gets her turn in PXZ2.

It's not that they are ignored but at the end of the day, people buy Smash for the characters you can play as most of the time. Everything else is extra, and non-essential.

No, I know she wasn't a promotional character for PXZ2, I meant she could be considered a contender for a character in Smash as a promotion. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Then I would still say no since she has absolutely no appearance in XCX.

At least with Wolf, while he may not be a new character, he is going to be in the new Star Fox.

Only now do I realise this, But it isn't just Sakurai who has a love for Fire Emblem characters.
Please. Take just one look at the top of our humble Home SmashBoards :p

Yeah I know right?! Where the hell is Zelda?
Why bother with Sheik when the top tier of sass is improperly represented?

So I heard a SNES game called "Marvelous: Mouhitotsu no Takarajima" (The Legend of Zelda director Eiji Aonuma's very first game before A Link to the Past) just very recently got 100% fan translated.

Maybe I'll give it a try.
