Shulk was just born at the right time. Saying Shulk/Xenoblade was somehow better than Isaac/Golden Sun is asinine.

No need to make arbitrary criteria as to who can get in over who. Golden Sun and Xenoblade are both great series though I have a preference to the former.


Well let's hope that won't be the case. All Nintendo has to do is market the game properly unlike what they did for the previous games and just make the game as good as the GBA ones.

I could see a Marth kind of deal with Golden Sun. In Melee, Marth wasn't relevant since FE3 and still got in the game because he's the face of FE like how Isaac is the face of Golden Sun (Isaac being Marth and Matthew being Roy in this case).

True though how would it play out if said character was a Sony/Microsoft owned character? Cloud was never owned by a rival company and even then, Sakurai notes it was a miracle that he got in further evident by the fact that SE was very protective from having trophies and music from FF used in Smash.

He said in the same interview that he would have had at least slight misgivings if Cloud had never appeared on a Nintendo system AT ALL.

So I think this situation isn't quite that clear.

And even if the series is largely on other systems NOW, it at least used to be predominantly Nintendo and received remakes of a couple of said Nintendo games on the DS.

The situation of a third party character appearing on a Nintendo crossover regardless of their status isn't really indicative of how eligible another console publisher's first-party IPs would be for the same game, anyway. There's a difference between a character that simply hasn't bothered to appear on another console and a character that is legally bound not to.

True. I still imagine he wouldn't oppose it. Especially after the console wars statement. He seems to not view them as enemies they must do better, but rather as people doing the same things s him. I also think most characters could be negotiated much easier then Cloud because, everyone knew Square was stingy with giving out their ips.

Other companies haven't really been shown as that, so I could see it being better. I also think pretty much all 3rd party companies wouldn't mind it. As being in smash is seen as a huge honor and a great way to promote their character and franchise. It works for both people involved.

It really depends where both franchises go from here. Cant see Xeno slowing down and I can't see a GS revival so I'm leaning towards second Xeno character.

As long as the next Xeno game has a really well recieved protagonist and comes out around the same time as Smash 5... probably Xeno.

Hopefully not. I'm all in for a 2nd Xenoblade character (i.e. Elma) though Golden Sun deserves it's representation in Smash.

Like I said before though, there's no reason for the series to compete.
