Super Smash Bros. RPG (Newcomer: WALUIGI)

Hello all, I have decided to start making a Smash Bros. RPG game. Here I will post (hopefully) weekly project updates. I am seeking spriters, so if you or somebody you know can sprite in M&L:BIS style, please send me a PM.

The first week I started by building a little over-world engine.

Could you tell me what this game is about story wise, and some other questions:
Will there be action commands ala Mario and Luigi, Rolling HP system ala Earthbound, or grid based combat ala Fire Emblem, being a Smash Bros RPG I imagine it would take the opportunity to combine various mechanics from other RPGs, but otherwise this looks promising. I am not a spriter but I am always one to give good feedback.

Nester, based, will he be a party member or some sort of npc, I feel like each member should have a gimmick or something, like Nester should focus more on action commands, having more technical attacks that are more complicated to complete while doing more damage as a whole, to reference how his main title was a sports game on the virtual boy

I can confirm that Nester will be a newcomer in this game. Folks who've been smash fans since the announcement of the 3DS/Wii U game may remember a great "leak" with all sorts of fake screenshots of Nester in Smash It was very well done!

2 newcomers and 1 veteran have been "officially" announced. I am hoping to create enough content to warrant building a website to announce characters and other information. Unfortunately I'm not a great spriter, and very slow to boot. Hopefully I'll improve as time goes on!

I tossed together a mockup for the character select screen!
Most sprites here are from the official game, Tebited15, and the Wario sprite is by RidgeTroopa (with some slight edits on the eyes). I finished the Waluigi sprite recently, will post it some other time, it is based on Nesslug's artwork.

looks good so far, I like the selection, will the entire Ultimate roster make it in or just some of the roster, I am just hoping ROB and Lucus gets in

Is the "character select screen" just a themed Party menu, or are you actually going to have some kind of mode to run through with each of the individual characters?

May I ask - in terms of this game's use of a "roster", is it the case that you can select members of the roster for your party (for example, Mario, Samus, Nester and Boshi), or are these just characters that will feature in the wider world as NPCs, enemies, or other such roles?
