Fail

First the only thing you do was use the SSB Crusade Hyrule Castle and paste Random character around the stage, the same for the second creenshot.

1. I meant May.

2. I am not copying Crusade. The first picture is in fact the castle stage, but I will edit it to make it Brawlinized. The second is a heck of a lot different than that of MK1 in Crusade:
It has 2 Large Platforms, and 4 Small Platforms.

3. Sora, Marluxia, and Melee Link are not in Crusade.

If characters were about the same size, it'd be a little less ********...

I'm gonna be honest, the thing that puts me off the most about MUGEN is that the sprites don't match each others' styles. Card Saga Wars (also made with MUGEN I believe) is probably the only thing to come from it that I like and it's because not only do all of the sprites share the same style, they look good. I'm not going to put you down for what you plan on making, I'm just sharing my personal opinion.

I wish you luck in your endeavors with your project. :)

1. WWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT???????????????????????????????????

2. Look at H Castle Now.
The same point still applies. The photorealistic background barely matches the sprited Hyrule Castle. And without even considering that, the characters in the second screenshot are a terrible mismatch in both size and style. Sorry to be blunt, but you have to artistically reconsider what you're doing here and either redo some characters or drop them altogether.

OH come on, "broken shadows"?

Make your own sprites, make them fit a congruent visual style that somehow pertains to the title, "Broken Shadows", and make a good game, and then you're allowed to be as pretentious as you want.

EDIT: http://www.google.com/search?q=broken+destiny

Broken destiny isn't any better.

So, I saw your post on the SSB Crusade thread.

Wow, really mature. I'm about to consider getting a mod in here to close the thread because I highly doubt you're actually going to get anywhere with this.

Hey Graceful.

So i bumped my head two days ago and got amnesia. So along with forgetting who my parents were, I also completely forgot how to use Game Maker. Sorry, I can't join your team =(

But the good news is, I would probably just slow you down. You seem more than capable to get this done in a couple of months.

Okay, real mature guys. I seriously do not want the likes of you here. I want either Developers, Game Creators, etc. in here. If you're not in her to apply and read about it, and post something nice, GOODBYE. Also, much like Soulcalibur Broken Destiny, this game is a side version of SSB Games. It in fact is the Broken Destiny Part of The Series.

Then I'd like to point out that you have little merit in asking skilled individuals to lend their talent to you if you have next to nothing to show. It doesn't help at all that you tried to pull people away from Crusade by claiming it crashes your computer. Either come back later with actual progress or get a mod to close the thread.

Okay, real mature guys.
GUYS, this game has errors on this, and no one even cares? Look Phantom7, you have got to stop making this game, because of the computers you are crashing. People who have not downloaded this game, I tell you, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS, THIS GAME CRASHES YOUR COMPUTER! I SHOULD KNOW, MY OLD COMPUTER HAD BROKEN RIGHT AFTER I DOWNLOADED IT. AND I HAVE TO RESTART MY LAPTOP JUST TO GET THIS GAME OFF MY DESKTOP. I'M TALKING 'BOUT 2 SEPARATE COMPUTERS.
Gotta love your approach.

I was going to offer my services, but after realizing that you're probably a child, I regret even clicking this thread.

What a waste of time.

:glare:*sigh* Really, I am 13 Years old, 13, I am not a kid, I am a young adult, or to put it more specifically, a teen. I have a lot of skill when making a game. I did make a platformer, but never released it, cause, I had a Smash Bros. Fan Game Plan.

Former Titles:
SSB M.U.G.E.N.
Broken Shadows (Which is now the title of Adventure Mode)
Broken Destiny

New Title:
Super Smash Bros. Elite

BTW, I was not trying to pull people away from Crusade. I was trying to warn them about the Major Bugs in the game. I am going to change a few things around to see if I can straighten things up, ok. See, all I came for is to make a Smash Bros. Fan Game, and is that way too much to ask, or even try.

13 is still exceptionally young though. And while a platformer will at least teach you the base pieces for a Smash game, the SSB series still has a huge abundance of very complicated quirks and mechanics that very, VERY few Smash fan games manage to incorporate. You'd be better off studying a huge amount of how the SSB series works (especially magus' big chunk of information that he's found tons of specifics on) before even bothering.

Just show us a video if you want us to take you seriously. Way too many projects get started up with absolutely no progress shown or maybe just a screenshot and get killed off so quickly because of this. Coming into the thread showing major progress or displaying that you are very capable (see 4nace and his Smash fan game as a great example).

Also, Crusade does not have major bugs. I've played it both on XP and 7 with absolutely no trouble. Don't pull crap on me. And like I said, yes, a Smash fan game is an extreme amount to ask for. You'd be much better off spending time on something with significantly simpler elements and, again, I'm not saying that just because I doubt your abilities.

I agree with Gamedominator. Start smaller. If you wanna make games then make them, not talk about making them. If you tried a platformer already then move to a different genre and make something simple you can show to your family and friends.

I made the platformer with Game Maker 6 at age 7, and to tell you, the platformer was BIG! The platformer featured 4 characters:
Link
Sonic
Mach Rider
Sora

and 5 stages:
Hyrule (OoT)
Green Hill Zone (This was before Brawl EVER Came out.)
Motocross Jam
Hollow Bastion (KH1)
Smash World

So, yeah, I KNOW GAME MAKER.

Also, there were lots of enemies, say 30, the worlds were long, there were 5 attacks. There were 5 characters, but I had to cut out her, she was Peach.

Edit: I checked, 13 is older than you think.

When I was 10 I was programming text-based adventure games in BASIC and asking others for help on bbs boards. Oh, how I miss my old IBM PC and Prodigy internet.

If you want to get started making games, look into C++ and SDL, or Python and Pygame.

Programs like Game Maker are extremely limiting, but they give that that "wow, i made something and ran it today!"

I have a game. In the planning stages. Eventually I will be posting the tech demo of it on these boards.
Months in the future :D

I was really hoping for a GM game with hitstun after playing SSBC which IMO was mostly unenjoyable because it tried to aim for that Brawl feel. I won't discourage you because of your age simply because I'm rather young too.I agree GM isn't professional, but you don't have to make your game professional. Just make something fun and enjoyable.

Also, a lot of people already don't like the hitstun-less feel, and without the 9000 developers tweaking the game it's going to be even more annoying than it is in Brawl. You should add more hitstun, that's my opinion.

While I agree with Dantarion that a smaller game such as a text-adventure is a great starting point, I'm not sure C++, SDL or Python are the best places to start for someone starting out in game development, whether they want to do programming or game design. I think that programs such as Game Maker and Unity are great launching points for getting into development.

Then if you are interested in design, just stay there, no one cares about your process, all they see is the end result. I am not any less impressed by a great game made in Unity than a great game programmed in OpenGL and C++. Same goes for Game Maker. Super Crate Box was one of the best indie games released last year, and yet no one cared that it was made in Game Maker because it was truly a fun game.

As far as Game Maker being limiting. Many times in game design, limits are good. That is why people still enjoy playing NES games and still enjoy pixel art. But unless you are in the top 5% of programmers in the country or are solely interested in 3D, I don't think you will find game maker to be limiting.

As someone who just got a job in the industry, I find Game Maker to be the most valuable tool when it comes to actually creating games.

Hi, I'm a Crusade team member! I'm just going to give some helpful advice.

Look at the first few pages of the Crusade thread. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Back? Great! See all the heat that we took for trying to show off when we didn't even have anything? You're going to get a lot of flak for doing the same thing. Just actually make something semi-complete and show some progress before starting a big thread like this, ok?

Besides, you need to work on your game some more! THIS GAME CRASHES YOUR COMPUTER! I SHOULD KNOW, MY OLD COMPUTER HAD BROKEN RIGHT AFTER I DOWNLOADED IT. AND I HAVE TO RESTART MY LAPTOP JUST TO GET THIS GAME OFF MY DESKTOP. I'M TALKING 'BOUT 2 SEPARATE COMPUTERS.

I don't get why you're trying to prove some credentials to me, especially when this doesn't mean a lot. Plenty of Smash fan games make the biggest mistake of cramming tons of characters into the game when the engine is absolute garbage. A lot of content doesn't equate to good programming experience. The engine is usually the hardest part of the game as it sets the foundations for essentially everything.

My first fan game, a Gradius fan game, was in works for over at least 1 1/2 years. I never came to actually making a stage because I had been constantly refining the engine and ridding it of flawed techniques I used in the very beginning. I wanted it to feel incredibly smooth just like Gradius Gaiden, my favorite in the series. There were no other Gradius fan games out there except for every few that were able to do this and I wanted to establish that in my own game. I never came to releasing anything, but my substantial increase in understanding made starting any other game all the easier. But I can already tell you that I would never start a Smash project for a long time. Finding where to start alone is a nightmare. Given my intrinsic desire for an extremely accurate and good engine, I'd probably be looking through magus' posts on how Melee works for months.

I feel sorry that you could not release it. But look, I know that I can do this. I am already making my 3rd character and 2nd stage.

Again, quality over quantity. I'd much rather see how your engine works and have 2, maybe 3 characters rather than you showing off 20 characters and 10 stages on an engine that is a nightmare to play on. A video or even some real screenshots would be nice.
