Why are we following the structure set by the Brawl Trailer?

Fox was pretty prominent in the marketing for Smash 64 and Melee.

Trying to figure out WHO will be shown is a shot in the dark really.

You can really only trust your gut based on what's popular now.

Kid Icarus and FE. Maybe Pikmin, Yoshi, and Luigi.

If they decide to have a HUGE character reveal like Snake, then we can count MegaMan, Bayonetta and (maybe) Travis as possible options.

The newcomer thing was just common sense. If K.Rool was revealed, it would feel weird if DK wasn't revealed earlier or at the same time.

At times I dream about the trailer ending and then there's some glint light in the darkness...

Until two icons sorta "walk in" which are revealed to be Lloyd's and Cless's icons.

Lloyd: *Huff-huff...* Are here now?

Cless: I think we made it!

Lloyd: Sweet! I can't believe I'd appear in this kind of a tournament sometime!

Cless: You beat me to it. I hope we can impress the crowd in front of us.

Suddenly you can sound effects "WAKAWAKAWAKA" while few pills start to float above the two.

Lloyd: Uhm, Cless, do you hear something?

Cless: I don't know... I think I do now. Sounds pretty peculiar.

Lloyd: Do you think... it's coming this way?

Sound gets much louder until you can see screen shake a bit. Something is really coming at the way.

Both: AAAHHHH!!!!

The icons run off while there's big shadowy figure which has a very familiar shape eating up the dots.

This would confirm both Pac and potential Tales-reps in best way possible.

Yep, wishful thinking. I guess we'll just have Pac-Man's reveal but this would make my heart melt with bliss.

I DON'T CARE IF UNLIKELY but... having Cynthia, Anna, Dark Pit, Ghirahim, Hades being confirmed alongside Ridley, Takamaru and K. Rool, with the eventual discovery that Mewtwo and Roy return with one or two third parties as the cherries on top of the cake...

This is not gonna happen, but here's to some wishful thinking...

Pretty much my biggest pet peeve about him. I mean yeah he has humongous amount of tools but I don't know WHAT one could craft out of them. I guess something cartoony, but I don't know if I'd switch Lloyd to Pac-Man due that.

Heck, I'd take Klonoa too, he'd blend in Smash just great.

At the end of the trailer I want to see Roy and Mewtwo practicing their fighting technique in a somewhat dark room and then it's says something like this "We're not missing this one" or something cooler that I can't think of them saying at the moment

Looking back and rewatching Brawl's trailer. Snake created hype because it was just so well done... Goddamn, that was good. Good times man, it was so unexpected. Also, looking back at Brawl's trailer, only 5 vets were initially revealed.

I guess it's simply letting fans get what they want after all the unexpected.

The thing to remember about Snake's reveal is that absolutely no one saw it coming, which brought that surprise factor which threw everyone off. Sadly something like that won't be easily emulated, considering this time around we know that third party characters are a possible thing unlike pre-Brawl.

Don't worry man, I wasn't trying to argue anything. I was just saying I'd like to see something outside of the Big 4. Especially considering that if the trailer reveals 10 characters, if 4 of those vets are like... Well duh, then it'd be more boring. Of course we know the 12 that will always get in. But something different for a change would be neat. Like opening with Luigi... Year of Luigi after all.

Those rules aren't set in stone.

Afaik they only applied to Brawl's development, there's nothing saying Sakurai won't have different standards with subsequent titles. It's not totally impossible. After all Soul Calibur saw Vader and Yoda.

Also, a lot needs to be said about the hype Snake created simply because he was Snake, not just because he was 3rd party. EVERYONE was curious as to how he would play, and EVERYONE wanted to at least give the guy a test run. I was a super hardcore Nintendo fanboy back then, and Snake's inclusion not only made me pick up his series, but it also created a lot of curiousity and hype for what he would play like, it just seemed so out of place that I couldn't help bu wanna hear more.

I think this is the main reason more mature characters like Bayonetta and Travis could be deemed as good hype material.

Oh, I'd kill to see Banjo in Super Smash Bros., but at this point it's a hopeless endeavor. ****ing Microsoft.

If there had to be a more unconventional third party character, that would probably be Bayonetta at this point. Though that character won't bring in as big of a surprise factor as Snake.

People aren't trying hard enough for a Snake-like reveal.

If Sakurai truly wants to shock that'll beat Snake, they should bring in Agumon from
the Digimon series. Literally no one expects a Digimon, so it'd be the ultimate shock character (and Digimon is eligible for Smash).

...too bad we're stuck with Pac-Man if we get a Namco character.

I think Agumon has as close to a zero chance to get in as you can say for an eligible character, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer a Digimon rep over anything else Namco has to offer (although I will say that I am starting to warm up to the idea of a Tales rep getting in).

Yeah, but by mentioning Agumon, you kill the unexpected factor. It's a paradox. Every character that we mention as one that can top Snake IMMEDIATELY falls below him, because Snake was essentially a blindsight sucker punch.

Don't care about Digimon. Besides, I'm very confused if some Digimons are even eligible in Smash, after all, they must originate from a video game and been on a Nintendo system at least once. Sure, the latter is true for a ton of Digimon but several Digimon (including Agumon) first appeared on those Digital Monster virtual pets. I have no clue if virtual pets counts as what Sakurai calls video games. Beside Digimon had a very bad habbit of being compared to Pokémon which makes it even more unlikely.

I don't think Nintendo characters have the same rules as a 3rd party character. I think they just have to be Nintendo's property for non-3rd parties (example, R.O.B. was a hardware accessory and Lucario was first in an anime film.)

Funny thing is, a Digimon character would fit into Smash much better than any other Namco Bandai character. dat rumble arena.

But yeah, I'm not expecting a Digimon character either nor would I particularly care for one either, IMO the best NB character option is none at all.
