Hey everyone,
If you happen to know anywhere in Salem that might be interested in hosting the SSF Tournaments in the future, please let me know!
Unfortunately, the more permanent venue we had been working on ended up not working out, so we're back to searching for now.
(In the meantime, expect to keep seeing us at Wild Things when they have space available!)
What we need:
- A space (duh), with room for at least 35 players and a decent number of setups (if you've been to Wild Things, the upper rooms are each about the minimum size that we can use at the moment)
- Electricity (preferably a lot of outlets, but we've made do with 1 before - who remembers the old GameStar days?)
- Internet (we need basic-tier internet to run brackets, but good internet that lets us stream would be awesome!)
- It MUST be youth-friendly (can't be 18+ or 21+ only)
- Available for essentially the full day on Saturday (11am-8/9pm), and be available most Saturdays

"Saturday, 3/9 Rose City Unification 3 (RCU) The month begins with Epic Gaming and PDX FGC hosting the 3rd RCU.
This event will feature Guilty Gear XRD Rev 2, Street Fighter V, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Soul Calibur VI, Tekken 7, Super Smash Brother Ultimate (Singles and Doubles) as well as Dead or Alive 6 for the first time!
Please be sure to Pre-Register!!
Pre-registering online saves you money!
Pre-registering helps with planning out how many setups are needed and helps with estimating how each event will be run.
Pre registering online will be $10 dollars, while on-site registration will be $15 Also, SETUPS are needed!
Bringing a full setup (PS4 + Monitor + Game W/DLC) or (Switch + Monitor + Game W/DLC + Gamecube Controller Adapter) will reduce your venue fee by $5 dollars, and if you pre-registered and paid online, you will be given $5 dollars back.
There is a limit to the amount of complete setups that will be accepted.
Please make sure the monitor is Tournament standard.

It's been a long time coming, but we have a new venue now!
For the forseeable future, we will be at the
Premiere Academy of Performing Arts
241 State St. NE
Salem, OR 97301
We're going to be in the downstairs studio there, and we'll be running a temporary schedule for the next few weeks as well!

You may notice a few things about this schedule, so I'll go over those now
- Melee & Project M: We don't currently have anywhere to store TVs, Tables, Chairs, or things like that at the new venue, and while we've found spaces for Tables/Chairs for now we don't have a good place to store CRTs.
Unfortunately, Melee and Project: M have also been averaging small numbers recently, so for the immediate future we'll be swapping to the policy of "If community members can show up consistently AND bring CRTs, we'll run the game(s). If not, then we won't run Melee/P:M that week". Depending on how this goes over the next few weeks/months, we'll see what the future holds for Melee/P:M at SSF
- Ultimate Doubles: Due to particularly low turnout for Ultimate Doubles, we'll be dropping this (at least for the moment). If you're particularly interested in entering Doubles PLEASE (1) let me know and (2) show up for it!
We've been considering swapping to running a Squad Strike bracket as an Ultimate side-event instead; please let us know your thoughts on that!
Also, speaking of tables and chairs, WE NEED TABLES AND CHAIRS!
We'll be providing our own going forwards (as the dance hall only has a few), so if you can bring (or donate) Tables or Chairs (folding or otherwise), PLEASE let us know!

- Joker will be legal at the tournament this Saturday, so MAKE SURE YOU HAVE JOKER if you're bringing a setup!
- If you are interested in Ultimate doubles in the future, please post here! We've been planning on swapping to Squad Strike instead as our side event, but if you would prefer doubles now is your chance to let us know!

Changes:

Starting NEXT Saturday, July 27th, we'll be running larger, monthly events focused on Smash Bros Ultimate!

The rules are going to be pretty similar to what they were before:
- All entrances in (1v1, non-side-event) SSF Brackets will count towards your SSF Ranking
- To be eligible for the PR, you have to have entered at least 3 of the last 8 weeks of SSF brackets for your game
- PR Size will be determined based on the game (we're still locking it down, but we're planning on starting with 8 spots for Smash Ultimate and 3 spots each for our FGC games)
(Also, due to a project we've been working on lately expect the PR to go up much sooner than normal after the event!)

First up, despite RCU happening there WILL be a Salem Smashfests event this weekend!

If you're in Portland (or able to make the trip), we recommend you head to that instead of SSF! It's a monthly after all, and lots of players will be heading up there!
If you're not able to make it though, head to SSF instead! We'll still be running brackets but since it should be a bit smaller (and now that we have more reliable tables & stuff) we should have PLENTY of extra time to practice with people and learn new games!
Third, the Salem Showdown for this month has MOVED DATES!
Unfortunately there was a scheduling conflict with the venue for the original weekend, so instead the August Salem Showdown (and the return of the SSF PR) will be on August 17th - next weekend!
The Showdown will be similar to last month's (same schedule, $5 Ultimate singles, usual FGC brackets, etc) however Ultimate Doubles will also be $5 entry!

Also, it looks like we will be having some sort of event this weekend here in Salem; we'll be hosting the Guilty Gear Daredevil League finals for sure, but what we run other than that depends on (time and) who's interested in showing up for what

Thanks to some help from Corban University's Smash Bros Club, we finally have a new venue!
The new location will be:
Corban University's "Emmitte Center" (Schimmel Hall, Room 212)
5000 Deer Park Dr SE
Salem, OR 97317
Parking is available in the A, B, and U lots!
Due to the change in location, we have some price updates as well - the Venue Fee and the Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Singles bracket are now $5 each, up from $3. This venue is a bit more expensive, but hopefully going up to $5 won't break the bank for anyone!
Oh right, and since we have a venue now... we may as well run a tournament, right?

Once you walk into the building, turn right and go up the stairs - we're in the room directly at the top of the stairs there!
Parking is available in the lots A, B, D, and U - some guest parking may be available in lot E, but I'm unsure as to the rules for lots E or F.
