God. If there's one thing I hate in this world it's people who say things like "suicide isn't funny", or "don't say that" when somebody says something like "wow kill yourself" when somebody makes a stupid comment, or does something ********.
I'd say 75% of people in this world know someone close to them who have taken their own lives, and yes, it is sad. Yes, it is horrible to think about- but you're making it about you rather than your loved one when you interupt a harmless joke or phrase. Plain and simple, it turns into a competition of who has experienced worse if you make a comment like "suicide isn't funny", and that's **** selfish- that's not out of respect for the deceased. You have no right to tell me that something isn't funny or okay to talk about if you don't know what I've been through (not me personally, just putting it in perspective).
If people can't make jokes or mention terrible things in this world then there wouldn't be a lot of things left that are politically correct to say. You aren't special. Okay, you're grandpa shot himself in the head and that's terrible, and if somebody makes a comment knowing full well that this has just happened to you, than yeah, that's bad, still you shouldn't say anything, but the person who said it should feel bad. Or if your mother, father, brother, or sister killed themselves, your company should probably know you well enough not to say something stupid- But just because your grandpa killed himself 5 years ago doesn't mean you have the right to tell someone what's okay to say. For all you know, the person who just cracked that joke has lost 3 friends to suicide, and has moved on.
So please, just keep it to yourself next time. That goes for cancer, ****, mental illness, and abortion as well.
