"The fate of two data sets" would be more accurate, since no statistical tests were run. Sorry... the use of the word 'statistics' with respect to these projects really bugs me, despite the useful data that has been accumulated.

While the formal definition includes the collection of data, a statistician is generally known as an expert in statistical data analysis not data collection. The data collection bit is often important to statisticians because they collect the data with a certain statistical test in mind.

The data here doesn't tell a full story by itself, not in a statistically sound way at least. I'd have done something about that if it weren't for past interactions with the community and statistical tests. The community has it's own idea of what is 'significant' and what is not significant, while general scientific standards have a much more sound idea of what is statistically significant.

Unfortunately, any tests done on a data set like this is likely to turn up many significant results because of the number of characters and their spread. If we isolate two characters, then the interaction between characters isn't taken into consideration... which given our knowledge about MU interactions isn't very good.

Anyways. I might take up a project related to this at some point, but I would need more time and motivation than I currently have. When people collect data and I find interest in a particular topic, I try to present something for the community to chew on.

The funny part is that after all this blah about statistics, my last community endeavor didn't actually use statistical tests! Woohoo, irony!

Now, onto DeLux's requests.

First off, for the entirety of 2012, excluding the weekend of Apex, there have been 96 MK Banned tournaments and 60 MK Legal tournaments recorded in my data.

And as far as the second request... I can only do it for the MK Banned data, because I've been specifically saving that to compare it to the progression of 2011's MK Legal data(where in that year, I wasn't really paying any attention to MK Banned data). I haven't really been saving any data whatsoever in regard to MK Legal stuff here in 2012, so... the best I can do for you is give you your request in the form of 2011's MK Legal data and 2012's MK Banned data.

Pit's gained a lot of popularity lately in tournament play, presumably because Uprising was such a smash hit.

Looking at the MK Banned charts, I would say the Mario Bros. aren't doing too badly either, all things considered regarding their crappy tier list placing...
