Hello, fellow 'bloggers.' Well uuh I guess I'm here to post about a problem I have. I'm currently in college for Pre-Animation (which is all about drawing, to sum it up.) When I registered for this program last year I still wasn't sure if this is what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life, but I decided to take it anyway.

Now fast forward to now. I'm pretty much the...worst of my class (in my opinion), and they seem way more passionate about it then I do. They probably also draw a lot more then I do. I only draw when I have homework, I never draw for fun, and that's probably what the majority of my class does in their free time (hence why there so much better then I.) Now I should start drawing more often, to get better right? Yea, I should, but it doesn't interest me I guess. I love drawing in classes, I find the classes fun, but outside I'm just 'blah', I'd rather do something I enjoy which is playing video games. I took many career quizes to see what I could become a majority of them are art fields, which I'm not sure I should be doing. Nothing really interests me when I look at other college courses and says "wow!" I'm kinda stuck right now, I don't know what passions I have anymore, I don't know what career I should be pursing for the rest of my life.

Well, I know it's up to me, and only me to figure out what I should be doing for the rest of my life. But I just figured getting opinions of others would be good (to see if they've been in the same issue as me, and what they've done.) Again, the only thing I really like doing is playing video games, but there are people who like watching movies, do they become an actor/actress, or one of the many other positions in the filming industries? Some, but not all.

Again sorry for the wall of text, and thanks for any advice you guys have for me.

TL;DR: I have no passions that really interests me, no careers that really say "wow, I wanna become that!"

Wait. You're saying you enjoy your classes... yet aren't interested in art otherwise? That's just... confusing. :dizzy:

Playing video games unfortunately doesn't net too many jobs. You could try to become a video game tester, but apparently it sucks all the joy out of them, since you have to play the same level 30 times over to make absolutely sure no glitches occur.

Really, your best option is to stick with what you're good at, and since that seems to be art, then just stick with it for the moment.

My advice, which will likely be unpopular...leave college, and get yourself a job while you work things out. Don't waste time and money on something you don't want to do. You can always go back if/when you decide what you want to go for.

Yes, I know it sounds confusing. I'm confused about many things at the moment :p. Yea, what you read is true. I like my classes but maybe I don't want too do that for the rest of my life, or I dunno. I'm horrible at explaining myself .

@altairian Yea, I wouldn't mind working. I mean I like working, coming home, and nothing to worry about (well no homework). But I dunno, I just want to finish this course (it's a one year course), I don't want to seem like a 'college drop-out' to my friends and family. If there's one thing I'm knowing for sure is I'm finishing this one year course. Not throwing your advice out of the window so to speak, it sounds pretty logical at the moment, but I dunno, again sorry for my confusion.

And thanks for the advice :).

From what I understand you don't mind the course, but you don't really like doing that stuff in your free time?

For example, I love drawing, but apart from when I've been to art classes in school and college I've stopped drawing at home more or less completely.

Well, if you don't mind the course you may as well stick with it- at least you'll have some qualifications. However, if it's stressing you out not being sure what you want to do then maybe you should ask what other options are avaiable for you. That being said, you'll have to get used to not being able to just come home, take your shoes off and relax.
