I enjoy their reviews to an extent, because I often feel the same way about said games, but thats about the extent that I use IGN. That and videos.

The Smash It Up articles aren't really intended to be anything more than speculation, so I don't know why some people act like they're supposed to be based on anything we don't know. Although it would be nice if they left out characters who they know have no hope of being included (like Dante, considering he hasn't even been on a Nintendo console).

I think that comment about 'knowing' there will be more third-party characters was probably some poorly-worded speculation, and it shouldn't really have been said in my opinion. It's a shame because often the IGN guys do have inside information, and occasionally drop hints, so they must've known people would treat this comment this way. They're generally a lot more reliable than some people seem to think.

Seeing as someone brought it up, I really can't understand how people think Matt was lying about Halo DS. Some seem to be using that Bungie quote as proof, but it really says pretty much what Matt said when he posted the videos. Some companies made demos and showed them to Microsoft, but it was decided not to go forward with the project. He played one of these demos, and even posted videos of it. He never claimed it was actually going to come out, and Bungie never said the demos didn't exist.

I hope for a 50 char roster, and that all MAJOR 3rd parties get a rep.

As for this guy, I think its interesting how he seems so confident, but you have to notice how much sales will go up if your series gets a rep, I mean look at Fire Emblem, that got 2 reps and now they have many more sales now that there in the states.

i don't believe a single word if it's not Sakurai's word, but i really hope he's not right.I think that the only 3d party that should be in Brawl is megaman, now.

I say they put Megaman and Bomberman in, considering how Hudson in doing all the VC games. Geno is a possibly close 5th, but he has more of a cult following and the other two would appease a wider audience.

I mentioned the Halo DS thing because in my opinion it is the same thing as what was said in that article about third party characters. Yes, there was some "evidence" that a Halo DS game could have been released, just like they have "evidence" that there will be more third party characters.

The evidence for Halo DS was a demo that had not even been accepted yet, and Matt posted it, hyping it up assuming all sorts of things about it, when all he knew is that they were planning to present it in hopes it would continue development.

The third party characters in Brawl only have evidence coming from the "outdated information" we have concerning them. Just because a few things that were said a year ago, or longer, have been disproven, it does not mean that third party developers suddenly decided to give in and give Nintendo rights.

In both cases, IGN is overspeculating and overhyping things they do not have enough information on.

While IGN can be a decent source of information at times, you just have to watch for what they are speculating on, and what they actually know. Sort of like crying wolf.

I'd have to say 45+ characters. I don't really like Megaman, but he's probably next on the list of most likely people. Him or Bomberman. I would prefer Bomberman.

I hope its true, and I hope this doesnt get Geno fans to think Geno has more of a chance.
Because hes not gonna make it. This is actually news that geno wont make it because,
when opening up the possibilitys for more 3rd party characters, genos, chances go down every time.

Geno is practically a third party character the way Square treats him. Well I mean, apparently Square has the copyright or whatever on him so we can face the fact that he's third party.

IGN sounds foolish enough in their official articles. This just screams, "Cause a stir in the community without our insane character analyzations and baseless speculation!"

Annoying.

You all act like IGN is going to gloat when some characters they suggested are confirmed. It is just speculation and fun, get sticks out of your *****.

The articles are actually a joy to read, especially when they try to justify a character being in Brawl you know ****ed well won't be. It goes to show how you can debate and make a reasonable argument on a character making Brawl.

The one that had me worried was Tingle. Tingle is fairly popular outside of America... Has his own game... That wouldn't be enough, but I read Melee Beta had Balloon fighter who was removed because he isn't a well established mascot. Tingle could take over that move set.... *shudders* Also they did put in that fish from Balloon Fighter didn't they? >_>

I believe it unnecessary to continue with that blasted series of articles, as Mr. Sakurai has pretty much finished the character roster anyway. He wouldn't be able to add anymore new characters. Seeing as that series of character suggestions sole purpose was meant to give a pool of ideas to Mr. Sakurai.

Matt C. has said before on one of their Podcasts that IGN knows nothing about Smash that we don't because of how Nintendo is keeping a tight lid on it. It is purely speculation.

Takeshi, you're my hero (even though I like IGN:laugh:).

Matt's a cool guy, and for the most part his opinions are right on. I remember when I saw him at the IGN.com convention at a panel. He was destroying everyone who defended the PS3 and the Xbox360. Everyone in the audience cheered for him!

But yeah, take it with a grain of salt. But also remember that if, and only if, third party companies are asking Nintendo to put their characters into Brawl, Sakurai would be stupid to say no.

And to Takeshi: At least IGN is better than the Nintendo-haters over at Gamespot:laugh:
You win sir...and I just realized who I was quoting! Didn't see you there demon! :chuckle:

@ Shiny Ivysaur
You also win! XD

And let them specualte as they might. It just so happens I think both Megaman AND Geno will be in Brawl=breaking that old "rule". In fact, Sakurai said that number off the top of his head, so he could have easily meant 2, 3, or even 4 3rd party characters on up. Stop with this "Sakurai said this" "Sakurai said this" crap, because you aren't using it in proper context. He said it off the top of his head, which means we could have the 2, 3, or even 4. Plus Brawl got inevitablely delayed, so he could have added one more character easily. That is from like 2 years ago, so stop quoting stuff that Sakurai could disprove. That was a MUCH DIFFRENT TIME AND PLACE.

In other words, what Shiny Ivysaur's picture says!
