1 - Intro
Stride is a simple, basic, sixteen-entrant singles WiFi tourney.

  • Playstyle: Singles
  • Elimination style: Single Elimination
  • Event style: Live
  • Happening right now.

2 - Rules
Unity Ruleset is in play.

  • 3 Stock
  • 8 Minute Timer
  • Items set to "Off" and "None"
  • Meta Knight is banned - in the event Meta Knight is used via random character select, the match shall be restarted on the same stage until Meta Knight is not present.
  • All infinites and chain grabs are legal.
  • There is a 50 Ledge Grab Limit for all characters. If a game goes to time and one player goes over the Ledge Grab Limit for their character, they will automatically lose the game. If both players exceed their Ledge Grab Limit, then this rule is ignored.
  • The act of stalling is banned: stalling is intentionally making the game unplayable: Such as becoming invisible, continuing infinites, chain grabs, or uninterruptible moves past 300%, and reaching a position that your opponent can never reach you.
  • Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
  • If the Ledge Grab Limit does not declare one player the winner, the winner will be declared by what the game says in all situations, except for when players are presented with sudden death: In the event of a match going to time, the winner will be determined by who has less percent (stock difference still takes priority but will be shown in the results screen). If the match ends with both players dying at the same time (either coincidentally or via suicide move) or if time ran out with both players at equal percent, a one stock three minute rematch will be played on the same stage. For a tie-breaker match, a Ledge Grab Limit of 18 is used for all characters.
  • Dave's Stupid Rule is in effect.
  • Best of 3.
  • Stage striking goes as follows:
Opponent picks two starter stages to strike.
Host picks two stages to strike.
Opponent picks two more stages to strike.
Host picks one last stage to strike from the remaining two.
The remaining stage is played on.
  • The loser of the first game will then ask the winner to ban a stage. They must do so, or their counterpick is invalidated. The loser may then choose a stage for the second round. This process is repeated for game 3, if necessary.

Take off pirate ship and I'll join. Alright. For the rest of the tourney it looks very solid however noticed you haven't specified rules about banning, stage striking, set count (I.e. 2/3, 3/5, ect.), whether or not there's dave's stupid rule, ect. It shouldn't really matter for people who have common sense and experience with tournies but well...people can be idiots so just a suggestion that you might want to specify those kinds of things.

good job otherwise. joining~

Ruleset is solid except for single elimination. This is not a good idea at all. It should be double elimination.

Allow me to explain why. Say you are the second best player in the tourny. However due to poor seeding you end up facing the best player in round 1. You will end up getting last place while someone else who got an extremely easy bracket might end up in finals.

Of course this is wifi so wins/losses are ultimately irrelevant but all the same, if you want to at least strive for more accurate results this is how it should be done.

he doesn't have to make it double elimination. He's the host, the rules are his decision. And what does it matter that great players get out early?
I remember in one tournament i entered Knubs was in it, and he's an amazing player. Then he got out on the first round. But that doesn't mean he got out because of faulty brackets. He was bested by a better player. Also, about the players getting easy brackets, so what? Does it really matter if the players with easy brackets get to go the finals?

If you read the posts above mine you'd realize he already changed the ruleset due to the request of one person.

As I have already explained it matters if one cares about more accurate results. If you want completely random results based on sheer luck then it doesn't matter.

Also people tend to be more inclined to join tournys where they get two chances instead of one.

If knubs is an amazing player then obviously he should not have been out round 1. That WAS the result of poor seeding. That's not how proper tournys work, this is why seeding and double elimination exists, so that "amazing" players aren't out way before they should be. This also prevents finals from being a slaughter as it increases the odds of the two best players actually making finals. Instead of the best player and an average one who got an easy bracket.

Actually, to be completely honest, moving a rarely picked stage from counterpick to banned has much less of an impact on a tourney than changing the elimination style, which is the reason why I didn't do the latter. The other ruleset changes were all givens that I simply forgot.
Nonetheless, Lash, you're in.

Can you explain why you believe SE is a better idea or will have a better impact?

I have already given reasons as to why DE will have a positive impact on your tourny and explained why all offline tournys do it that way. It's your call either way, I am just trying to understand your justification.

I never said I thought SE was a better idea, nor do I think DE is a bad idea. It is simply a matter of preference on my part. If you don't like it, don't complain. Just don't join it.

I am not complaining, I merely assumed you had a reason for choosing SE. I guess not. Suit yourself.

Incidentally have you seen the thread for the B-C tier tourny? I see that you are a Marth main so you could enter. I'd like that tourny to get at least 16 people and actually kick off. It's this Saturday.

The way you're describing "accurate results" makes these OTLs seem, in a sense, slightly fixed. Is it really a goal to get the really good players far in the tournament always? And just because the brackets are random doesn't mean the results are based on "sheer luck." imo they're based on the skills of the player. An amazing player that gets out on the first round is because the other player he fought was better than him, certainly not because of faulty seeding. Either that, or we have totally different views on what a "bad/faulty bracket" is, which, i probably do have a different view, because i still don't understand completely what a faulty bracket is. it seems to me that a faulty bracket would be one where contenders are purposefully placed for specific reasons. Random seeding seems fine to me.

What Iota said. Just follow the format of other ppl who join online tournaments

Username goes here / tag that you use on wifi brawls goes here / Friend code goes here / characters that you're going to use in the tournament go here

Then you're signed up. You and your opponent then will contact eachother and set up a time for your match for the tournament. after you're done, report back to this thread with the results. Hope this helps ^_^

Also, about the players getting easy brackets, so what? Does it really matter if the players with easy brackets get to go the finals?
That's actually how I placed second in an offline tournament. XD

Every single offline tourny does it this way. I still think you don't understand why it's needed. Random seeding does NOT make sense nor is it fair to anyone.

I'll give you a simple example assuming single elimination. Say player X and Y are the two best players in the tourny. Due to random seeding they end up meeting in round 1. Now obviously one of them is out in the first round. Does that make any kind of sense to you? The second best player in say, a 64-person SE tourny being out in round 1?

What is more say this was a really hype tourny with a large viewing audience. However, the most hype match already happened in round 1. What is more, finals end up being the best player paired with one of the worst who got the easiest bracket side. What do you think will happen in finals? Of course naturally it'll be a 3-0 victory for player Y in less than 5 minutes because of a horrible mismatch especially for the last set in the tourny.

Now imagine you are an aspiring top player. What incentive you do think you'll have in improving once you realize placing high is just based on luck and not skill?

I'm not saying the current system if perfect but it is by far the best for accurate results.

You don't need to be an "amazing" player to get out of round 1 or make it to finals if there is random seeding. Crappycola just gave you an example.

Well then i guess we do have totally different views on this.

I think it's just the fact i feel like purposefully placing players in a tournament makes it seems like it's fixed, in a sense. Like, CC's (crappycola's) example of random seeding doesn't seem fair to me either, but it does seem better than purposefully placing people. But, if it's the general consensus of things, then i won't argue anymore :ohwell:

Regardless, the final decision is up to the TO. Let him run this tournament the way he wants. The rules and stagelist are both solid. This tournament is perfectly fine, and not much different to how many successful OTL tournaments have run in the past. If you don't like it, don't join. Simple as that.

This

I really hope this tournament doesn't become inactive. The last two tournaments i've entered started off then no one posted in the thread anymore and no one did their matches.

I'll have to know when this tournament is. If it is this Saturday afternoon I will most likely be working. The Weekend after that, I will be at another tournament If it is this coming up Saturday, I definitely could make it that morning.

Hey rhyme just a heads up, I host tournies sometimes with Chatzy, I believe that (unless your using premium) chatzy can only hold around 13 people? I know they have a limit.

Anyways, sign me up.
