Stage editor!

Who thinks it would be good to have a stage editor? It should be simple as in selecting an object/platform then moving it with the Wii-mote. This would be good for all those people who would have wanted a stage but it wasn't put into the game. Once a stage is finished you have the option to upload it to the Wii's internet (don't have a Wii so not sure how that would work, but it must be possible) for other people to download it. I can see a good amount of community discussion about good custom stages.

I actually think something like this could be in the game. But it would be a very generic stage, with only a few texture, music, and background choices, and you can just place a few platforms or whatever around with a variety of sizes and whatnot.
Good idea.. I'm actually gonna look forward to it now.

That'd be awesome, I love it when games include level / stage designers. It might work if it's really basic, just a bunch of blocks that you can drag onto the screen and maybe colour selection too. To include a stage editor it'd get more and more complicated quite quickly. Think of all the movement and unique looks of the original levels -- it probably won't be able to create such detailed stages if there is one.

Great idea though, I hope they include something like it!

I like the idea of a Stage Editor, but keep it limited to placing platforms. The user could have a large selection of backgrounds, music, and platform looks. You could also edit the size of the platforms. I think it would be a great addition, especially if you could download other player's stages online.

You won't be able to create stages as original as the ones already in the game, but it's still a wonderful idea.

That's a little too complicated... plus if you could create a stage you wanted but wasn't in the game, they might as well just hire you for SSBB 4

that idea is probably the best idea ive heard for an addition for the game. just think levels would acctually be fun to play. and not just like a level editor but you could put things that could possibly change the game around while fighting like that running pig in zeldas level or something like that

Well it should be really simple to make, select a platform > place it > select any materials or sounds that will go with it. Not just fighting levels could be made, people could do a track where a Bob-omb blows the character through a course of different platforms :D
I don't think anyone would wait years then join the development of SSB4 just to make their level but you probably weren't serious :p
I think it'd be fun!

Well, like IllidR hinted at (I'm assuming), all it takes is for one idiot to create a giant [male genitalia] stage.

What I mean is use only textures and backgrounds from the game. It'd be awful to have a porno stage >_<

well if you say, move this platform here, and this platform there... all I'm saying is it's possible.

I think a stage creator/editor would be an awesome idea. It'd probably would be basic though like the stage creator in Diddy Kong Racing DS.

smash isn't the kind of game that would have a feature like this and that's why i dont like the idea -_- games like farcry, tony hawk or paintball have this feature because they have more things that you can fill the environment with. it's just a weird idea and i dont like it. sorry.

I approve. Should be kept simple, though. Choose a theme, design the shape of the main platform, add other platforms, level done.

The only problem I'm seeing is the height of the platforms. I think there should be a set position for each platform, a grid like structure and you could choose to place platforms in the grid. There would be no placing platforms anywhere. NO male parts.

I think you should be able to choose out of 3 or 4 base platforms, one with gaps in it, one small, one medium, and one very large like FinalDestination.

You would be able to choose from a set of stage ailments for your stage. For example, a windy (wind) one, or corrosive material below the stage, nothing too complicated.

There would be a few textures to choose from, like: grassland, dungeon, space ship, tropical, etc. And music would be an option aswell.

downloadable stages would not be an option, however I think you should be able to bring a stage you made to a friends house. There would simply be too many to browse online.

Maybe just save stages on the memory card if uploading isn't possible. Your right though, there would be too many stages to browse!

I mentioned this on the 'Show Me Your News' Podcast two/ three weeks ago.

Pretty much what you said, andysfile.

i don't think they're going in this direction with Brawl.

a stage editor might be nice, and would have great potential, but i don't think it would ever happen.

Only selected well-made maps MIGHT be used a tournament but it isn't really the idea I had in mind. Anyway if a map was that good, it could only be used in tournaments that have the memory card with that map on it. Online it would be easier.
Online is still possible - Youtube has many many videos yet it is easy to find one you want. A search function or ratings (with sort-by-ratings tab) would be all that's needed.

i see your point and the option online finding it by ratings etc is a pretty good 1 you could be able to narrow down the search by type then rating so you find it easily

Ratings might work, if it prompts you to rate a stage after playing it the first time. But there would be a huge number of custom stages, and my guess is that many creators won't bother writing a stage description and maybe even leave out a title which could lead to a lot of duplicates. (Just because selecting letter by letter is too much effort!)

This would be a good idea if they did it right. I remember how excited everyone was about the track editor in Diddy Kong Racing DS, and that turned out to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in my life.

I don't think they'll add a create a stage mode anyway.

To be perfectly honest, i'd be up for playing a generic stage that you could move/change the shapes of blocks in, like the break the targets stages, pretty much, and those would be really simple to make, and you could do whatever you wanted with them, with just a few options
