I just read on the wikipedia page of Mario Strikers Charged that the online play is region specific which means that people from Europe play online wit other people in Europe and in the future when it comes on in the United States you can only play online wit people in the USA. And that would suck cause i wanna vs Japaneese people too and english people and EVERYBODY

Mario Strikers Charged is also released only in Europe at the moment, so I don't see how it would work and makes sense at least with the different release dates to be region specific. It might be changed in the future, maybe not. If you can cite a reference of Nintendo saying that Mario Strikers Charged will always be regional specific it would help, since Wikipedia (while largely accurate) is after all made by the people and doesn't necessarily represent the official word of Nintendo.

Mario Strikers Charged is also the first online game for the Wii (at least for Europe) and between now and Brawl's release at a speculated November I think we'll see them getting the online on Wii nailed to perfection with possibilities of world-wide gaming. However you must also think about the lag of playing people in foreign countries as is evident on online games everywhere and in a game like Brawl would you really want to play someone in Japan if you were lagging horrendously?

Well in Metroid Hunters, it was a handheld and you could choose to play people on a local level, or worldwide(I'm not sure if by "worldwide" they mean "countrywide"....I'm pretty sure no) So we'll probably have a choice to coose in Brawl.

Most (all?) DS games allow you to randomly play people outside of your country. I think by the time Brawl is finished, the Wii should be able to do that as well.

Er... Lag? Even if you could play people in Japan, it would be laggy as hell. When you play Counter Strike, you want to play on servers that are within a few hundred miles of you. Ever play on a server on another continent? Not a good experience. I can only imagine it being worse with Smash, where the split second reactions necessary for L Cancelling, Power Shielding, and the like don't leave room for a .2 second lag.

Yea, just imagine that as you go to do your finisher, the game hiccups, and next thing you know, you have somehow fell off the level in the process...

If anything will hinder Brawl, it will be it's lag.

OHHH i didnt kno the further away u are the more it lags
Well you didn't know that you are to capitalize your "I"'s when referring to yourself, that it's "farther away," not "further away," that you need a period at the end of your sentence and a comma after "away," that "know" has a "W" at its end, and most infuriatingly, that "you" is spelled "Y-O-U," not "u;" so I would assume that your post isn't sarcasm and that you really are so stupid as to believe that the distance you are from your opponent has no effect on the amount of lag you get while playing.

Jaja U get mad when people dont use correct grammar im sowwy Mr. Spellchecker but i dont give a **** about my grammar if its not for a grade so only teachers can tell me to write correctly. Plus i didnt think the distance mattered because the way i see it if both people have a good connection than wuts the problem?

How old are you? Honestly?

As to the connection claim, it doesn't matter how good your connection is, you're not getting a decent latency to Japan. The signal itself takes a long time to travel, especially since it has to go through a bunch of random lines, then possibly up to a couple satellites, and such. It's not a straight line, and electricity doesn't travel at light speed through wire because of the resistance. Also, there's a definite limit on what your connection can be right now. At the moment, the best the average person has access to is cable. Maybe when they start laying down fiber-op and making it available to people without charging them ridiculous prices, regional codes would actually matter. But at the moment, it's pointless: You're not going to want to play people living on the other side of the US, let alone Japan or Europe.

In Warcraft III TFT you can choose the region you play. I think that's a cool option and could be considered for brawl?

I play Jump Ultimate Stars online and in most matches its me and 3 Japanese people and I lag and bug out the game so badly...its hardly even playable.

Well with Mario Strikers from what I played yesterday, at the moment (whether it stay that way or not) its region specific, and although I aint checked it out yet, it does say that you can sue friend codes to play against someone in a different country/continent, however again it also suggests not to because of the lag - so atleast you can play with people of different locations through friend codes - Im happy :)

If it goes out of US I hope it gives the choice to select other regions.

Well I'm all for a bit of asshat-ery, I'm confused at how "the farther away, you are the more it lags" is proper grammer.

maybe it'll be like in mario kart ds and you can select if you want to play against people from your continent or vs the rest of the world.
but i'd be glad to have any online vs-battle mode at all.

Meh, ist getting kinda dum now. Look, we don't know if its region specific, I doubt it will be, but whatever. Mario Kart DS, I took on people from Japan... They were those freakin zigzagers half the time though.
But then again, Zig Zagging might be a lag problem, who knows.
