This is a blog just comparing the two games

Similarities

All of you should know this section and thus saving me the difficulty of typing it.

SSB64 Only

+ Huge Hit stun
+ Over powered grabs
+ http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Tier_list
+ Has teleport http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Teleport_(SSB)
+ Fixed character fights in one player mode
+ I can not get the dam texture pack to work
+ For the Nintendo 64 of for the Project64 emulator
+ Kirby at his best
+ Pikachu at his best
+ Cool entries
+ Board the platforms
+ One hit from any character can lead to your impending doom
+ The original twelve perfect attendance veterans
+ Graphics
+ (In my opinion) a more balanced tier list

SSBM

+Less powerful but more grabs
+More charaters
+Wavedashing
+More one player modes
+No board the platforms
+Home-run contest
+First appearance of Crazy Hand and Giga browser
+Larger tournament scene than SSB64
+Lot of more tactics
+Less hit stun
+More Stages
+First appearance of trophies
+Has charaters that do not appear in brawl
+graphics
+http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Tier_list
+More glitches
+Moon Walking

I know I missed quite a few things but I was only giving a general over view If I missed something just post it.

NOTE: I am not saying one is better than the other, I am just comparing.

It's a tough call, but I'd go with Melee, N64 just doesn't have as much substance to it except in the game physics and character balance in my opinion, and it shows mostly in how the stage roster is smaller than the character roster.

Melee's biggest downside is the shear amount of glitches and physics abuses (some of which have heavily altered the metagame, NO L-CANCELLING IS NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT), but the rest of the game makes up for that, plus the music and stage design is of better quality and on average the latter isn't as broken as in it's predecessor (pretty much the only truly balanced stages in SSB64 are Dreamland and Congo Jungle, and nearly half of the stages in that game are practically unplayable competitively).

dreamland and congo jungle? if you said that on the ssb64 board (or this whole post), you'd get trashed on.

Also, you can't compare the two without getting into a discussion about the tiny things that are better which turns into a whole smash 64 vs melee argument.

What I meant by that is Saffron and Hyrule would most likely not be tourney legal if they were included in either of it's two successors.

That is weird when you use the search engine of Wiki it finds it but other wise it doesn't (apparently) that is odd.

Edit: fixed the link the url tag was misplaced by one letter

Hyrule castle is extortionately fair but in the context of other games maybe counter pick but not banned. Saffron would be more fair because it the orgianal that place was spike heaven so in the other games in which a majority is meteor smashes that place would be safer but I could see the arena impairing wave dashing so counter pick mabey at most. Other than that I do see your point.

Edit again: I did not mean to turn into a which is better but more of a compare and contrast blog.

if anyone says SSB>ssbm I will now disargee with them it's a great game it's most likly better than melee but I just play melee because I like movement so much it lets so many ways to f*** with them.

Don't forget the part where SSB64 has no DI and set knockback so you're completely at your opponents mercy once you're hit :)! Sounds like a fun game!

Wait so you disagree that it's better, and than say it IS better in the same sentence?

IF they do bring back 0-death combos for everyone that would make an incredibly balanced tier list because even one hit from bottom could lead to the death of the top tier, however that would make the game super competitive and really tense. I also hope they bring back wave dashing, now that I think of it a game that combines what made n64 and melee so great would be a brutal game to play in the competitive level (I mean that as a complement). And why not throw in what made brawl a good game as well?
