Am i the only person who wishes that the art style was less like brawl and instead made a transition kinda like from melee to brawl? (like a bigger jump in style, something to make it look more apart from the last game)

The more advanced gaming systems get the harder it gets for developers to create next gen graphics that make as big of a "leap" as past gen consoles did from their predecessors (the leap from Smash 64 to Melee is still the biggest graphical leap in the series as far as I'm concerned).

But even then SSB4 looks incredible in my opinion. The game a lot more colorful and vibrant, the new character expressions/detail breathe some much needed life into our favorite Nintendo All Stars, and the detail/lighting effects that take place in the stage backgrounds are FAR superior than anything we saw in Brawl.

More realistic and washed out? Absolutely not man. These characters were made for colors that pop!

Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing, and i can tell the animation has taken a giant leap.

but i meant more of how everyone looks, if you put a side by side screenshots of both games you can see the the models the same just with a ton of extra meshes, and honesty i was hoping for more stylized models that set them more apart from brawl.

Like updated models based on current games? That would be nice, but a lot of them hardly change because they're iconic.

it's not a big deal either way. Shiny visuals only matter the first week or so of any game's launch, it's the gameplay that really makes the game. So in that realm of thought, I wouldn't care if the visuals were a complete rip off of brawl as long as the game plays great.

Depends on the character. Some are just updated a little like Mario, others like DeDeDe are world's apart.

I would say the characters being really expressive is more important to me than looking totally new.

I thought brawl looked a fair bit better then smash 4 on a 3DS but you cant entirely get a feel for smash 4 until we see it on our own 3DSs.

I love these graphics as they were made for Nintendo. It just looks so colorful, vibrant, and just full of life. Heck, the characters have hilarious expressions when they get hit!
I hated the graphical style of Brawl. I don't think that the realistic look that they were going for really fit.

As time will go by, the improvements in the models won't be as drastic as it had been the last two gens. Details will be going to other things like different animation physics (hair, physics), improved lighting, particle effects, and parts of a model behaving more realistically.

Don't forget that Brawl and Smash 4 have gigantic resolution differences. That makes a huge difference in details.

All in all, Smash 4's details are a drastic improvement to Brawl's. They may not be as realistic as one might expect, but that's the thing with less realistic art styles. You see their improvements in different ways. Just look at Wind Waker and the HD remake - though that might've used a little too much bloom. At least games with less realistic art styles age much better.

Brawl was pretty good for me. The general graphics update was huge, and I actually liked the different style. It made it seem like a serious fighting game.
Though some designs were really bad.

That's the problem in my opinion. The game tried to take itself way too seriously. Not even the more "serious" fighting games have tried to go for a darker and grittier look for their games save for Mortal Kombat.

This is definitely a better art style. It has more vibrant colors and what not that set it apart from Brawl's more realistic, darker and grittier look. In the end, it was a bit too serious in that deparment for it being called a Nintendo game. SSB4? The art style is more colorful, cheerful and, I dunno how to express myself but "relaxing"? I dunno. But it looks more like a Nintendo game than Brawl.

The graphic improvement between Melee to Brawl seemed so much better because, looking back, most of the Melee character models were god awful. Mario, Doc, and Luigi were orange, Pikachu was fat, DK looked like a Muppet, Zelda's hair looked like a slab of Velvetta, etc. This was even more so the case with the transition between 64 and Melee because the original was so bare bones in pretty much every aspect, especially the graphics.

To me, the art style they're using in SSB4 really captures what Nintendo is about. The vibrant colours, the sense of wonder, the expressiveness of the characters; it all seems more fitting than Brawl's serious nature that just didn't sit well with most of the characters besides Snake and a select few others. In terms of sheer graphical improvements though, I think the biggest and most drastic change was from SSB64 -> Melee.

I don't think I really understood what you mean here, maybe because I'm taking it literally. (English isn't my first language.)

Anyways, I was initially hoping for a similar artstyle to Brawl, especially after how nice the TP E3 demo looked. But I'm not at all disappointed by the vibrant direction SSB4 took, especially when coupled with the great amount of detail put into the characters which make them come alive.

And here I thought you just lived among the Indian populous and were secretly British or something. You sure type English well. By the by, I'm not really sure what he's say with the orange comment either.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Yeah now I know what he means.

This is more like a HD Melee than Brawl, and even then it's much brigther than Melee. Definitely the Smash which has the best artstyle imo.

Yeah Smash 4 definitely has the best art style and character models compared to the rest of the games.
