DNS Server

OK so here's what you do:
turn on your Nintendo Wii, go to the Wii Options (bottom-left corner), Wii Settings, Move over to page 2 (Wii System Settings 2), click on: Internet -> Connection Settings -> <choose the connection that's setup for your Wii> -> Change Settings -> Auto-Obtain DNS (a few pages over). Select "No" -> Advanced Setting. Type in the following numbers:

Primary DNS
208.67.222.222

Secondary DNS
208.67.220.220

Confirm, save and do a Wii system update (optional)
Here's the source of my info: How to speed up your Wii's connection wi...
All of these settings can be undone if there are any complications and I urge you to read though the source thread if you have any concerns.

What you're doing is you are changing your DNS server to some massive one called OpenDNS. One mentioned it was nintendo's Wifi server.

I'm pretty convinced by the amount of positive replies i seen. However this probably won't work for EVERYone as there are some negative replies. I suggest making a new connection to test.

It still works? I'll try it out now.

Edit: Hm I just played a couple of basic brawls, I can't really tell if it made a difference.

It does for connecting but seeking other players is just as long. However the actual play is a tad faster. I just speed up the seeking process by getting a Wi-Fi adapter.

I already use OpenDNS on my computers and Wii, it does work just fine, I'm doubting it's a speed increase because OpenDNS is a filtering service that blocks viruses and porn and stuff, but it could help I guess.

I've followed the instructions, got Wi Fi up and running and played some games with people I nromally play against. I haven't noticed any difference in lag at all

Do both sides need to have this DNS thing? The positive feedback is great but it doesn't seem to have improved my lag at all

DNS...does not affect the speed of your connection. At all.

DNS is the server that translates domain names in to IP addresses. You tell it a website and it finds it for you, basically. If you're unable to load something that other people can load, changing DNS servers can fix that.

The only way that DNS could improve your connection over wifi is if your ISP's DNS is unable to connect to the other player(s), and so you're all having to connect through a proxy rather than true peer-to-peer.

People not forwarding the correct ports to their wii is the most common cause of lag, as it again forces a proxy connection rather than peer-to-peer. DNS is rarely the issue.

Eh, my Wi-fi is too slow to really improve anymore. But I'll give this a shot.

Hey, I'm only spreading word, i'm not declaring it, unfortunately it won't have a significant effect for some users, about 20% of the replies on NWFC say it doesn't have a positive effect at all.
