Sotw? Lptom?

I was part of a a forum for the longest time and they held a weekly signature contest and a monthly large piece contest, like a lot of other forums. It is a great way to boost the confidence of some emerging artist's in this forum, and also give good critiques along the way. The only way that we would ever be able to accomplish this is through:

• The approval of the AE Mods
• Enough artists to submit signatures/LP's
• Someone (I can) to make trophies
• Someone to MOD the new sub-forum(s) of the AE
• And the will and drive to do this!

What do you guys think? I think it would be a great way to bring the AE together and also give us some more popularity, seeing as anyone in the forum can vote on their favorite!

Why should we do this?:

• Confidence Booster
• Popularity Booster
• Chance to get great cirticism
• Inspirational, because some people need a topic so they can start their art, and in SOTW we have weekly topics
• Would give a sense of accomplishment to the AE

Please let me know what you all think, can we pull it off?

I actually did make a thread about reviving SOTW back in October. Unfortunately it never really got up and running though, there were only about 2.5 people who showed interest.

We tried to resolve issues of voting/theme decision and such so we might want to use the same guidelines here. Although, looking back I'm less inclined towards a poll...

We don't need LPOTM since Art With Your Power has returned.

Postbits could work instead of trophies.

An entirely new subforum really is not necessary until this gets really huge. If that happens, whoever mods the AE (read: me) will also mod that place, not sure if we need to appoint any more moderators for one subforum here.

If we can get people interested then I'm definitely for it. That's always the issue though. Maybe it's something we just start up and hope it gains interest on its own.

Ah I see, and I think that might be the best idea. If we get approval from a mod to create this (you?), and just start it, we could hold a trial week (because I know we would at least get 3 entries: odin, you, and I) and maybe if it is to much for a weekly thing, maybe we can make it monthly if necessary.

On a side note: Is Art with your power specifically drawings/painting/original art media or can it be a large piece created on photoshop?

EDIT: Also I feel very blind for not seeing your thread first, feel free to close this and bump that as you wish of course, I dont know why I didnt check that first but since I didnt see a SOTW subforum I assumed it wasn't being discussed. Idek.

Well we need to decide how this is gonna go down before making any announcements lol.

If you don't want to go through the other thread I posted, the format I was thinking of was:

Monthly contests until participation increases, to give enough time for people to notice and make submissions. 3 weeks for making/submitting, then the last week will be for submitting. Eh, maybe twice a month is better but sigmaking takes time.

Judging done by me. Staff judging is how Pokemon spriting, AWYP, and WWYP are all done so it seems fair here as well.

Alternatively we could use a poll with anonymous entries (submissions would be pm'd to me, and I make an anonymous poll for people to vote on), but there are problems with people asking their friends for votes, etc. I'm leaning towards the first option. For now I'm planning on starting/managing the necessary threads.

We could try to get some postbits for 1st place, although we kind of have a lot already lol.

Size requirements? 500 x 200 or (200 x 500 for verticals)?

@ Snuc: Yes, AWYP accepts anything that's not fecal matter.

I believe its the little icons under all your info under your avatar. For example, you have the snake postbit as your brawl main. And other people have different postbits depending on accomplishments/forums they have access to.

I cant help feeling I should be a part of this, even though I didn't see your thread it was still an idea that I had? Idk I feel blown off of this, but I am good at creating prompts and have been in countless SOTW's x.x;

Also, for judging why not have people submit entries via PM and create the SOTW thread for judging and results only? Just a thought?

Yeah, it was more of an either or kind of thing. I was offering to run this like AWYP/other contests where staff does the judging if no one minded since it's a pretty standard system around here. If everyone would prefer a poll system, that's fine too. I just need to know what the majority wants.

Also, I recommended next Friday so that it won't be competing with AWYP, in the case for people who are interested in entering both. But, ultimately it's your decision when to start.
