Based on those characteristics, I see no reason for him to not be considered. I wouldn't WANT him in the game, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have any chance at all since he fits the criteria. Unless you can find me a quote where Sakurai specifically says he wouldn't put in a fictional baseball player (he added a racer by the name of Captain Falcon if you recall. Not that large of a stretch).
Specifically refuting just this point, there is a HUGE difference between a fictional space racer with a plot behind him and a real life baseball player whose name was changed. CF is the main character in a nintendo designed game based entirely off a fictional storyline. Jon Dowd is a real life baseball player playing a minor roll with other real life baseball players with no point other than to take the place of a great player who got in an few arguments.

Then Dowd can't get in. But Sora is not a real life baseball player playing a minor role in a sports game, so how is he related? Comparing Sora to Dowd is grasping for straws.

EDIT: ****. I just can't help myself, can I? O_<

I don't think explaining a minigame constitutes a true appearance in a game.

Or the fact it wasn't Geno, but just Gaz's doll.

AH, but Gaz's doll is named Geno, the star spirit is not...

and it was an appearance, they also had to give a big shout out to Square at the end so they went out of their way just to add him, even if it was a cameo

I'm not saying Sora and Dowd are remotely similar.

I'm saying the logic assuming if criteria

a.) Originated as a video game character and
b.)Has been on a nintendo system.

are met, then the character has a valid chance of making Brawl. Dowd fits both criteria. He has no chance.

Sora is not automatically granted a chance at making it in to Brawl because the logic is wrong.

I admit what I'm arguing is fairly pointless, but there is really no valid reason to include Sora as a character in Brawl, especially considering that there's only one 3rd-party character spot left, which could go to a character like Megaman who has appeared many times on nintendo systems. I don't like the idea that there's a minute chance Sora can make it, because there is really no reason to put her in over or in addition to other 3rd-party characters.

But yeah, I'm effectively arguing semantics.

Ah, I didn't know that. I was wrong.

I still don't really see why a cameo should count as an actual appearance since he isn't really affecting the storyline of Super Saga.

as much as I hate to say it, he has absolutly NO chance since he is owned by square/disney and plus nintendo would have to get his rights which won't happen, maybe in a future smash (if there ever is on) he might make his appearance

All four of those games are fairly well recieved to the public.

And yes, I like Sonic Riders
Well then by those standards, I could say that Chain of Memories was fairly well received. Effectively debunking the "CoM sucks" argument.

Well, chances aside, I don't think anyone really expects Sora to be in Brawl, so I'm sure we can just agree to. . . I don't know. I'm just done arguing. Bygones.

Appearance = presence not necessarily a lead role or a catalyst role.
I didn't mean appearance in the literal sense. Otherwise we could count something rather pointless like Mario in Ocarina of Time for appearing on a picture hidden from the game, or the arwing appearing in OoT. I've never actually met someone that counts those as worthy appearances, even though they are in the game.

They are inanimate, thus they don't count.
