It's just a spinning attack like the classic Sonic games where you hold down and keep pressing B to make it go further and to make it faster.

So his down B just increases his foward B? Do it really need 2 special slots?

Or you could just wait like 5-10 minutes..
His moves are cool.

I think his Down B is just for storing the charge for his Spin Dash..
I hope it has more uses than that because that'd be a waste of a slot.

Maybe if people run into you while you store it, they get hit by the spin or something.

FowardB.... SPIN DASH!!!

DownB... SPIN DASH!!!!!

Real original Sonic. Real original.

Somehow I think they're both going to be switched between each other for unpredictability and mindgames. So overall they do look like really really nice special moves. Originallity aside.

It's strange, the Japanese site calls the "pop" a "hop". Perhaps a translation error?

I believe there is a distinctive difference that you guys are missing, I don't think the charge is for his side special. I think his side one can be charged on its own accord which allows jumping.

Its a little disappointing that those two moves are very similar, but I'm sure that they have some differences. Perhaps the side b is used for combos such as the ones in the video. While the down b could be like jiggilypuffs roll, harder to control but far more powerful for finishing blows.
I agree with Exorcist, this will probably be used for mind games between a blow that will lead your enemy into a combo, or one that is meant to be the finishing blow

Eh I can't say I understand this very well, but to me it sounds like the differance between the two moves is that one is doing the Spin Dash from standing (the Down B then tap B) or pressing down while running (the side B) adapted into an actual attack.

If the Side B is chargable like Sakurai implies. Then maybe it's the type of charge where you hold down the B button. Basically you'd get a small boost from this, but it would also delay the move from coming out. Which could also be the pop Sakurai's refering to, and it's not quite like a normal sonic move...

That's what I think anyway.

Hmm...I was kinding hoping the spin dash was his B move. I wonder what Kirby steals from sonic now?

I think the only difference is side B can go in the air ("spin dash, jump") and down B keeps you on the ground and you can go faster which allows you to be more effective against enemies on the ground then the side B. That's my guess at it.

Well its really the only thing he could really do.. I mean, (Don't flame me) his most used attacks from what I remember is.. rolling/spin dash, they tried to mix it up and get more use out of it.

I'm sure it will be fine when you get the hang of it.

We'll in the Sonic vid I think it explains it all.

in the combo he does vs Mario first you see him spin dashing(SPIN DASH!!!!!!!11) in a back and forth motion. This is probably his DownB. Then it shows him actually charging with it and following Mario with a jump.

Actually, now that I read it again, this might be the case. It say in the description of the side B that you 'hop' into the move.

Uh...doesn't seem that likely. Unless he goes out an incredibly short distance, turns around and comes back to the exact place he started, turns around again and faces the enemy, then starts another move. My guess is that was actually his forward smash...

the up+b will be fun LOL.

So what you're basically saying is that you think that not only is his FowardB AND his DownB Spin Dashes(SPIIIIINNNNNN DASH DASH SPIN DASH!!!!!), but you also think his FowardSmash is a Spin Dash too? That'd be too overdone, I can't get myself to believe Sonic is that simpleminded.

in the original Sonic games most of your time was spent rolling into enemies either by simply jumping or using the spin dash

the movelist makes perfect sense to me, so far :ohwell:

Yup

And you forgot to mention he Spin Dashes on top of DK as one of his throws.

Although looking at the Video again you might be right. It looks like he originally started closer to the edge of the stage. So he might have turned twice. I wish there was a high quality video to take apart.

Sonic: So I'm fighting Snake, right. And I get him in a Spin Dash.

Mario: *sarcastic* Oh... no way...

Sonic: Yea, no kidding. Then after the Spin Dash, I combo into it with a Spin Dash. Then on his way down, I hit him with a freakin Spin Dash!!

Mario: Sonic... can't you do anything else, dude. Like really... even Jigglypuff could Spin Dash.

Sonic: SPIN DASH!!!!! SPIN SPIN DASH SPIN SPIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!

Mario: Oh god, how the fxck did you get in the game.

Okay, I think I've made my point, I'll go to bed now.

I think the moves have different effects. If you watch the movie, it looks like the first spin dash he does knocks Mario forward, and the second one, the charged one, knocks him in the air.

I know these aren't much different, but that fact alone will make for some interesting mixing and matching of the two and will make for some cool mind games.

From what I can tell, his Over B Spin Dash is good for combing , and sends you opponents over and you can turn it into an air combo by jumping, when you hit someone. It is also his horizontal recovery.

Down B, "Pierces", as in it can go through and hit multiple targets, sends them straight up, can also be turned into an air combo, thought it seems poor at it. This move also works kind of like the bubble shield (from sonic 3) when your in the air and sends you straight down, like Kirby's block move (it may go down at an angle, but I can't tell).

Both Special moves seem to have the ability to turn around at EXTREMELY high speeds, so try to out maneuver him seems to be out of the question against these moves.

This makes Sonic harder to fight because he has two moves the look almost identical, but they act exactly opposite of each other, this makes it harder to predict the move unless you are really good at spotting the tell, or you get hit by it.

Also don't forget, Multi Special Moves has been "confirmed" as Mario has been seen moving around with his F.L.U.D.D. instead of it just appearing, giving merit to the Custom Character theory.

^Is pretty much right.

His down B spin is more of an attack as he just spins there. His side B waits for spin to charge up so much (Luigi's side B), but doesn't do damage as he is just spinning in place. His down B can be seen in the video when he's playing a side-scrolling subspace stage against multiple enemies in a tunnel. It's the last move of the combo, the explosion hit. Similar to Yoshi's down B.

It's not too bad of a combination if you think about it.

how would that work if you're falling off the stage? Would the Spring show up without anything to be nailed on to?

I don't think his down B is exactly the same as his side B. Remember that clip in Sonic's video, where he was spin-dashing in a tight loop on the ground? I think the Down B creates a spin-dash that can't be jumped, but can be controlled into a crazy floor-control kinda thing. The Side-b is more like a hit-and-run tactic.

The upward special move could've been Chaos Control, but it would've worked the same way as Zelda's Farore's Wind.

No, he "hops" when he hits, so this is his side B

ridiculously high up b
Thats so G&W's Up+B But using a spring insted of two people puching you back up >_>;

Also the two specals are different clearly...one ( down+b ) JUST goes left to right..thats it...Think puff's " b" but insted of sending people sideways they go up. As for the other one ( side+b ) he starts going normaly THEN he goes upward. THATS what they ment with the "pop" or "hop" or whatever you WANT to call it. =p

...And I think that down fire kicks his dair >_>;;

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but in the Sonic video, he clearly grabs DK and most likely uses a down grab, based on the fact that Sonic is spinning on top of him before launching him off the stage.

I guess spin attacks aren't limited to his B and A attacks. :)
