Hello fellow Snake players. I recently attended a tournament here in MN and I was finally able to get some vids of my Snake (in both teams and singles) recorded. I would really appreciate any and all advice.

In all the vids I'm the snake player (obviously) with the tag of UTILT. I hope you enjoy the videos.

Singles:

vs NeoMagic
Round 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYKJCLPFjsA

Round 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pDtLiLPkNQ

Round 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jrmhMv9q7o

vs Greenbunny

Round 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi-4t8bl9eM

Round 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0Mn0EXAzeE

Teams:
(56K and I teamed up, we're the Frofessionals)

vs Disciple and L/E

Round 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfREjYl9Hp8

Round 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6qxDC4Bkos

vs Big Tuna Magic

Round 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aFUyUFd52Y

While on the subject of teams, what is Snake's role in a team? I'm pretty good at life-tanking I think, but otherwise I don't do much except stalk around the stage and tilt people to death. I'm afraid to use grenades out of fear of friendly-fire.

Also what's a good strategy for 2 v 1 situations (both in my favor and against)? When it's in my favor (see vs Disciple and L/E) I usually let my partner attack but then I find myself rather useless. Does Nikita work well when spammed from above?

For when it's unfavorable, I just find I'm overwhelmed easily. I really don't know where to start here.

Thanks again for the advice and I hope you enjoy the matches!

1.) Cook grenades. At the beginning of most of these matches you just seem to hurl two mid grenades and that's that. Grenades help you with stage control, as well. Learn to shield drop grenades. B > Shield. And pick them back up so you have more control of where yr grenades are going. A great way to cook grenades is shield drop, ACSH bair, run, shield at the appropriate time. This acts as a grenade shield, and is very effective.

I think they explode in 4 seconds(?). Learn when grenades explode without having to count down or think about it. A way to test this is running from one side of FD to the other. Look where the grenade explodes, and how much distance you are able to cover before it does.

2.) Don't recover so close to the edge. Thankfully, yr opponents don't seem to be aware of how to take advantage of when Snake recovers near the edge, but grabbing Snake and releasing him (don't throw/mash A) will make him drop unable to UpB. The second match with GreenBunny could have been over at about 2minutes if he took advantage of this, just saying. :"|

3.) You Ftilt A LOT. This isn't necessarily a bad thing seeing as yr opponents don't punish you for this, but it is extremely predictable after a while and can easily be perfect shielded if you don't mix it up. Not only that, but you Ftilt when yr opponent is close as well when you could be Dtilting/Utilting instead. Use Ftilt for spacing. If you connect with the first hit of the Ftilt, you could always grab afterward if they are trying to shield the next hit.

I might edit this later. I didn't watch all the vids, heh.

Hey, first time poster loooong time lurker

I agree with everything that Cat Fight said. From what I can tell about your grenade tactics it's the same thing. You pull, do a back roll, pull, and throw. For aggressive players like the ones you were up against, I'd recommend playing grenades close to you. Don't forget the back toss, it gives you a nice little fire wall for when they phantasm.

I also noticed that you continually got punished coming down from the sky. Basically that came from what seemed like an excessive use of D-Air. Unless you can catch someone off guard with it, that move is practically useless as an aerial.

Other than those few issues, you played alright. If I can give some advice against Wolf players (my buddy plays an overly aggressive one like the one you fought) play that fur-ball like the world is on fire. My defense against my friend is the fact that there isn't a second I play where something isn't blowing up constantly in his face (remember C4 is your friend). And STAY LOW against Spamanimals when approaching.

Hopefully this helps

I had the feeling you're a bit lost in edgeguarding falco and his illusion. A nice thing to do when edgeguarding him is to drop a granade by the ledge and nair,as the nair will get him off his move 100% of the time.

Cat Fight: Thanks for the advice on grenades. I know I do f-tilt, but I mostly do it for damage (U-tilt is too good for KOs to get stale moves on raising damage). That having been said, I have been having some trouble with predictability and I'll try to incorporate those mix-ups you suggest.

Also, as far as recovering goes, do I just go for more vertical distance then DI towards the stage later?

Stavo: Thanks for the suggestions. I began to notice the same problem with D-air; would n-air work better (it's worked so far as a good anti-edge-guard as long as I don't fast fall by accident)? Or should I just time air-dodges?

Also, how do I use C4 well? I know it's better on platforms, but it just sits there and people generally stay away from it. If it hits them it's usually because it timed out when they were nearby.

Azgner: Thanks for the edge-guarding. I never thought of using both grenades and n-air in tandem. Will the grenade work against sweet-spotters or is there to just add an extra 12% (which also works).

I appreciate all the advice. Would anyone mind critiquing my doubles play? I'm sure it could use some work as well.

Your snake was good but you could improve in a few fields. First off you don't seem to have any off stage edge guard game. With Snake's great recovery its foolish not to take advantage of the area off the stage. Bairs and Nairs off the stage I find to be very effective. Also you should eliminate the out of place fsmash's that you do. They are can be seen from a mile away and can be easily punished. Fsmash can sometimes be good on the edge to catch people by surprise though. and against Falco to counter his forwardb recovery you can shield drop grenades that will explode when falco goes by them.
