Some problems with textures...

Okay, I was anticipating going to school to replace my textures since my mother's laptop from her company is with her during the day. I go to Brawlbox (which is on my flash drive), and attempt to replace a texture...It gives me a "Could not find specified file" error, when on my mother's computer, it works just fine. All the edited texture files are in the same folder as the character they correspond to on the flash drive, and that is where I am fetching the replacing textures from, so why is it not working?

Due to a rash of viruses that happened earlier in the year ( and a consequent cleaning of the computers), nobody is allowed to download things to the computers for fear of viruses popping up, so downloading the texture files to a specific computer is out of the question.

------
Also, I have a couple of Ness textures on my Brawl+ Card, and they are not working. They are named corrected, I have gone to the right color, and they still do not work. Why is this?

The textures are from Stack Smash by the way.
------

Another thing I want to ask about is texture formats. I mean the file types CI8, CMPR, etc. Is it possible to change the format of those textures to do what you want with them in that way?

If it is possible, then I possibly can rethink my Liquid Sonic texture, and make turning the Sub-Tanks on Zero transparent a reality.

I will tell you now changing the texture format is not a good idea, most of the time the game will freeze if you change them (I'm not sure why, the game is weird).

Have you tried it before or something?

Also, do you possibly have any answers for the other two things in my post?

Yes, I have tried it before, and so have other people. Sometimes the file size drastically decreases, sometimes it drastically increases, sometimes it stays the same, but it almost always causes a freeze. If it doesn't cause a freeze, then the texture will end up all white.

Answers please? If you can provide them?

Possible answers...
1. Your school's firewall blocks BBox from working properly (sounds stupid, but mine is ridiculous that way)
2. Your school's computer might not recognize that file type.

Just a few thoughts

Plausible answers indeed.

Now how about the Ness texture problems in Brawl+?

Also, new texture problem I haven't encountered before, Fox's tail texture is messing up, and it looks as it appears on the texture sheet, Fur brown with white...which is then again followed by more fur brown, it is solid, and I know it shouldn't be doing that. Could it be due to me accidentally modifying the tail texture in some way that I shouldn't have?

Are you sure you have Brawlbox completely on your jump drive? You may just have the brawlbox file and not the other files that allow it to run. When you download it there are like 3 other files that come with it.

And your textures may not be correct. Try to have the .pcs and .pac rather than a solo .pac file.

Fortunately, for the CI8 textures, you can increase or decrease the amount of colors that the palette can use. Of course, the maximum number of colors must be equal to a multiple of 16, and can't exceed 256 colors.

CI4 textures always use 16 color palettes, so it's impossible to increase the color amount for those textures.

Here are the file names I see on the main directory of the Flash Drive.
  • AUTORUN.INF
  • H0GIUHMG.BAT
  • V0F8RQC.CMD
  • BrawlBox v0.63d Folder
  • FIghter

Thats all on the main directory when you open the Flash Drive.

In BrawlBox, it has the following.

  • BrawlBox.exe
  • Brawlbox.txt
  • BrawlLib.dll (<-No idea what the hell that is for)
  • BrawlLib.txt

As for Brawl+

Here is what is in Ness' folder.
  • FitNess.pac
  • fitness00.pac
  • FitNess03.pac
They are named correctly, and are the only files that came with the folders from Stack Smash that generated them.

@MNSG: Are you telling me, that I can take a texture, that was a different format than before, change it to a CI8, by lowering it's color palette to a multiple of 16, and less that 256 colors, and thereby enable it to be as transparent as I want it to be or not?

No clue.

and about the Fox file: maybe you shouldn't be screwing around with the Brawl+ files. Not to sound mean. Just not really sure how else to put it.

I think you've misunderstood the meaning behind what I said.

Here is what I am saying: The parts of Fox's tail texture, when the edited texture replaces the old one in BrawlBox, for some inexplicable reason, made the transparent parts of his tail fur become solid.

It looks like a cylinder inside a cylinder inside a cylinder at the end of the tail. Which looks flipping weird.

Also, this is a texture hack I am doing.

I am making Fox...into a Samurai! *Insert random Japanese sound effect*

There are also some things I need for that project, which can be found at the Texture, PSA, and Stage request thread in Customized Content. Those things will greatly benefit the project.

You're a bit off. You can't change texture formats, but for any texture that's in CI8 format (such as all of Donkey Kong's texture parts, except for his Final Smash eye), you can adjust the palette so that it uses more or less colors than normal.

Also, I don't think you can change the palette format (which is either IA8, RGB565, or RGB5A3), since that could lead to mipmap issues.
