-It looks like a purple, more menacing version of the player character Taizo Hori, and is capable of digging throughout the level unlike the other enemies-

-There's a montage, showing the duo enjoying carnival rides and other attractions such as food and face paint-

-They include the grubhog on all of this, sharing some of the carnival food with it, getting a butterfly painted on it's face, and even bringing it on the rides and raising it's arms up for it like many people do on fast rides. The grubhog maintains it's smile throughout the montage, so it appears to at least be enjoying the carnival as well-
