Genuine question. Do you guys think the team are doing something to World of Light?

It could be nothing, but I found it odd how Dharkon was focused during the beginning of Hero’s trailer, and how it was focused on a battle against the evil fighters. Maybe the Evil Fighters theme was simply the situation they were going for, but the Dharkon bit still has my head scratching.

would be weird if they did a DLC expansion to WoL without the entire fighters pass revealed

Maybe. We'll have to wait and find out.

That said, it would be great if Smash Run made a return.

Was talking to a friend of mine who is a huge Heihachi supporter. One of our main points for him being likely was that they removed his Mii Costume, (which isn’t that notable since all other third party Mii costumes were removed) but also didn’t give him a spirit.

The most notable third party Mii costumes that were removed at least got Spirits, I believe. The ones that come to the top of my head are Tails, Knuckles, Akira from Virtua Fighter, and Geno.
But Heihachi didn’t get even get a spirit, despite being owned by Bandai-Namco, who greatly helped in Smash’s development.

The fact that he’s owned by Bandai-Namco also helps his liklihood, even though Nintendo apparently chose all the DLC this time.

I then realized that literally all of these points also applied to Lloyd Irving.

I then realized that Lloyd Irving isn’t in PAC-MAN’s taunt, whereas they deliberately added Heihachi.

Oh Neptune.

Honestly?

No.

In fact I don't think there's anything you could do other than add boss fights randomly. It's simply an aesthetic choice to have soulless Marth and Metal Knight beat on Link while simultaneously linking toward the theme of "light vs darkness" with the Luminary representing the light driving out the shadows.

I disagree about there being nothing they could do, they could absolutely add a new map with the DLC spirits on it.

To be fair it would’ve been a bit random to get Heihachi and Lloyd spirits when their series were yet to be represented outside of Mii Costumes. Tails and Knuckles were obvious spirits for the Sonic series, Geno counts under Mario and Akira got in as a new assist trophy.

Some (somewhat minor) things are missing, and people are acting like it completely ruins the game overall.
And then there's people who actualy believe the game won't sell well at all due to those inconviences.
As someone who cares about the humor and charm, especially after playing the original Super Mario Maker and Mario Paint, that's very silly for them to assume.

Having an evil being that rule the world and cover it in darkness makes a lot of sense for a DQXI tie in. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Nah I think it was just the classic light vs dark theme they wanted

Apparently the different title screens, funny death sound effects, and lack of the weird skinny mario mushroom/costumes and the fly swatting mini game.

Yeah they were fun and have the game charm but it really doesn’t change anything

Some charm from the first game is missing. As well as pipes not being stackable. That's the main gist of it.

Oh, and there's also the lack of button controls in creative mode when the game is in handheld, but they seem not to care about that. Though I will question why every region is getting a stylus to help circumvent that issue, EXCEPT NA (or just the US? Idk)

Rayman and Shantae had spirits despite not having any other form of representation, and those were from companies that didn’t have anything in Smash and needed to be contacted just for the spirits.

But that would be an insane amount of work for what is essentially just a prettied up spirit-board.
"Insane" is a bit hyperbolic. The maps are, for the most part, still images with paths drawn over them.

Add a warp point on the main map that leads to this new map, throw in all of the spirits that already have fights designed for Spirit Board, ta-da. All they would have to make is a boss for the map, and my theory is that, if Vergeben's Minecraft info really was true, this boss would be the Ender Dragon.

I'm not trying to say a World of Light expansion is definitely going to happen, I'm just saying it's far from impossible. And I also believe it's far less work than a character or a stage.

To be fair rayman is probably a spirit because of he rabbids crossover and they already had him as a trophy last game so they may have already had the rights negotiated for it for this, since some planning was done for ultimate during smash 4

By charm, I mean the fly swatting minigame (which wouldn't even work as well with button controls), the lack of shaking to find alternate forms, as well as dragging items to change them, something about the title screen, all that jazz.

tfw barely anyone like Solo

I unno, I kinda dig the vague Greek Myth or Merman aesthetic going on
The crown is dragon wings along with his color palette being a refernce to the typical western green dragon but i can see how people will think merman fins

personally her design is grade A awful until she puts on pants, then shes ok
Ths fishnets are one of my favorite parts..though I do think I would have preferred a skirt over shorts..

Honestly? Not really, no.

Dharkon being focused on was, most likely, just a reference to how the primary version of the Hero is the Luminary, the Hero of Light that will defeat the Darkness..which, of course, Dharkon and his minions are, literally, the Darkness.

I actually enjoy Solo's design purely out of association with him being a part of the cast from DQIV which had the best party members in old school DQ purely out of character design.
DQv is my favorite game in the series but its perfect the way it is but DQIV always felt to me needed remakes in the levels of DQVIII or XI.

The world and characters needed to be fleshed out more since party chat was the only way you got to know them well but it wasn't really enough. Plus DQIV had proto sephroth as a villain.
