This **** cracks me up, always does.

Wow, you are really salty towards a defunct animation studio. lol
I'm salty because I have a great appreciation for the effort and artistry needed to create those golden age cartoons. And then limited animation came along and all that ended. I would argue that that kind of artistry with 2D animation just hasn't happened again since the golden age ended. Outside of like, Cuphead. You can do great artful work with beautiful animation with computer and CG animation, I'm not saying those mediums are bad. But those old cartoons literally look like moving paintings. That just doesn't happen anymore. Even renaissance era Disney animation doesn't have that same feel to it.

That and I legitimately have never seen a Hanna-Barbera cartoon that I enjoyed watching. Only like, Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated. And that feels more like a fluke then anything else.

Out of all of those theatrical shorts, I'd say the highest quality animation came from Tom and Jerry.

I wonder who made those...

.........................oh :yoshi:
This video is really good to get documented well enough about the history of Tom & Jerry alongside the legacy they left:

Would reccomend this series of videos to anyone who wants to get into the world of animation in a direct way.

True. But it's also due to the unexpected success of television (and limited animation by extension) that lead to those theatricals making less money and companies closing studios and slashing budgets. Imagine if that never happened and we still had beautifully animated theatrical shorts in front of every film in the theaters. I really wish that were still a thing.
Yeaaaaah but then we probably wouldn’t have animated shows as a result...

Fair point I suppose.

I wish the two could have somehow coexisted.

And I really wish people would put out more hand drawn animated shorts. Do you know how many they used to put out all the time? And with less then a dozen people working on each!

Problem with that is almost assuredly the cost vs payout issue.

What incentives do businesses have to make something that takes longer to produce and requires more man hours than something that's cheaper and faster?

Sure, you'll get labors of love, like Cuphead, but most businesses are out for profit first, art second.

Critical acclaim means ****. Look at how many Michael Bay or Fast and Furious movies come out.

What matters is how fast you can make something and how easy is it to flip a profit.

You probably don't like hearing this, but the fact of the matter is, businesses aren't looking to become the next Picasso, they want money, and they want returns on their investments ASAP.

You're right. I don't like hearing it. Even though I know it's true.

They just look so beautiful. I wish a modern animated production could come out that looks like a moving painting. There was a certain roughness to it. It moved beautifully and fluidly but it didn't look so.... is clean the right word? It doesn't look real. Most artful animation tries to hard to look weird and even then it still doesn't look real. But then you look at Cuphead and it captures the aesthetic exactly. Sighs. I don't know. I guess it is just a pipe dream.

I mean, I get where you're coming from, I too love old-school cartoons and the charm they have.

But I'm also not blind to reality either. Those days are gone outside of indie groups. Unless they're specifically going for that style, most animation studios aren't going to go that route anymore because it's way more expensive and requires way more man hours.

Most of the time, yes. But I see where Snake is coming from. There are companies that took massive risks and it paid off big time. But that also meant it could fail easier. It varies from company to company, as well as time. You ain't gonna get genre defying art from Sony as much as you would from Universal for instance :yoshi:

I'm keeping you in mind. If you get a studio and I get employed in the industry, you've got your first contract all set up.
Speaking of, I got accepted into the LA Study Away Program! My final semester of college will be me interning in the industry.

Yeah. I know. It's just depressing. It almost makes me wanna cry.

I still don't think it would be as big a risk for Disney or WB with how big the companies are. Combined with the publicity and viewership they would get. It's basically a marketing stunt.

Another thing to note for why Hanna-Barbera utilised limited animation is that they suited the televisions of the time better. There wasn't much point animating everything if viewers weren't going to see it. Character close-ups and dialogue were the better choice.

Limited animation basically paved way for both US animated TV shows and the anime industry.

Tbh, Tom and Jerry hasn't been the same since the jump to television. They need the whole fluid handrawn animation because their show was 100% slapstick. It's not like Looney Tunes where it's the writing that carries it, or Scooby Doo where it's became far more story based over comedy based.

Yeah.

I'm still bitter. It's just so beautiful I can't help but be sad it doesn't happen anymore.

i found some new neat musical band things

i don't think much people care but i will keep the info in spoilers if you're interested in the slightest bit

They sound nice.

They sound nice but they also hit you in the feels. Pretty raw.

I always liked rock bands with women leads, it just leads to naturally good jams.

They're an older band (formed in 2000) but I only just now found them. I like them a lot.

He's raw but with hip-hop vibes, I like him.

Tbh, I can't really blame Snake for wanting animated theatrical shorts back, considering a lot of us are still hoping for 2D Animation in movies to hit the mainstream again, like that will ever happen in our lifetimes (it won't).

So far Sakura Wars PS4 has been really good.

You have to make quite the big choices since the beginning which makes you take an important focus on the dialogues since the beginning to make sure you don't go with the bad choices. And the combat is quite good.

So yeah, It is all in all the kind of challenges I like.
But anyways, more tomorrow because it is 4am where I live.

See ya'll tomorrow!!! ❤

Well, different strokes I guess.

Though I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss those Flapjack shorts theaters used to play.

Let me know when that happens.
It's already happening to be blunt.

There's an extremely passionate collector's market for VHS tapes, and considering how our society loves looking back, it's only a matter of time until people are clamoring for the return of the VHS.
