No debate. Pokemon.

There never was a debate. Me and the boys trading pokemon cards, not digimon cards
Well those were before your time. Pokemon v Digimon came around the same time and you'd have people arguing which is better. Pokemon always had the upper hand, but it was there!
Then Yu-Gi-Oh! happened...

Hey, speaking of which, do you all remember the BeyBlade anime that used to come on before Pokemon aired on CN?

All I remember that it was straight BOOTYCHEEKS, and was complete false advertising for the actual toy.

Beyblade used to be wildly popular in my elementary school. Probably the only game anyone played. I never got into it though.

I remember they were in McDonalds Happy Meals. It was a fad that lasted like a year.

The early 2000s truly was the Japanese Invasion.

BeyBlade was never big where I'm from. Pokemon cards though, that was all the rage.

And then they got banned from my school, so my friends and I made a bootleg version with index cards. Half of the cards we made had instakill options, and some had absurd amounts of health.

Yeah, hopefully none of us gets picked up for a balancing team.

Pokemon was banned from my school too. I think Beyblade at some point was as well.

But anyways, thanks for bringing this up because it reminded me of one the best videos on the internet
don't want to slow down mobile users, so I'll just link it. Some no-no words, I think

Yeah, in my elementary school, the four things that were banned were Pokemon Card, Silly Bandz, Cheese Touch...

And in my 1st grade year, speaking Spanish in the cafeteria. All because no lunch aid could understand them at all.

I know this doesn't get talked about a lot recently, but I still miss trophies. It would have great for them to be available alongside spirits, and I enjoyed trying to collect as many as possible. Spirits were probably just easier to implement, I guess.

As a kid I'd always switch between which I liked the most out of Pokémon and Digimon, one day I'd say Pokémon was the best and Digimon was crap, the next day it'd be the opposite, it'd pretty much depend on the most recent anime episode, my luck with TCG packs, whichever toys I could get my hands on, which series had the best candy, or the most recent game, it was crazy how much kids of that time were bombarded from all sides by both franchises.

The fact that Pokémon in its absolute prime even had competition speaks to how huge Digimon was, of course Digimon could not keep up at all in the long run, but I think Pokémon would have benefitted a lot from some healthy competition over the years.

Not gonna lie, Phoenix Wright is looking pretty nice as a Capcom DLC character. Am I wrong?
It is weird to be in a reality where he is possible.

I am calming myself to not get overly excited, but this is possibly the closest we will ever get.

I am fully expecting to crash into theground heavily and return to the "ah ****, he is never ever". But the fact there is momentum at all for him is an alien concept.

He is also in a weird place where people consider him a frontrunner while others toss him aside completely due to Resident Evil existing.

Both Joker and Banjo have pretty much opened the doors for any 3rd party characters at this point especially for western IDs.

Well not every western IP IMO. Just the ones that some notability in Japan, like Crash and an Undertale character(despite me not wanting one).

I wonder how insanely broken Agumon would be, imagine being able to Digivolve to Greymon and Metal Greymon with your down special increasing both your strength and speed within each digivolution.

WarGreymon would be the final smash.

Dunno, I always felt that the Digimon-Pokemon rivalry was one sided from part of the Digimon fans. Digimon never reached the same amount of popularity Pokemon had, and even nowadays its impressive to look back and see the phenomenon that Pokemon was on 98 when it was released on the west and how it continues today.

In my youngest days I didn't like Pokemon or Digimon. For the former it was because, as a child, I didn't even know the Pokemon games were a thing, I only knew about the anime, I really didn't like anime back then. As for Digimon, well, it's not like I disliked it. Rather, I didn't know it existed, period.

I'm still hardly familiar with Digimon today, but I respect it for what it is, and I came to adore Pokemon as I grew up.

I didn’t know Digimon was a thing as a kid. I might have heard the name somewhere, but I had no real clue what it was. I knew about Pokémon though and I wasn’t into it. I thought the actual Pokémon looked cool but I didn’t like the anime and didn’t know the games existed.

I feel like Digimon getting into smash would be cool as a concept, but the character wouldn't actually appeal to many people

I'm pretty sure Pokemon was supposed to be a big fad, like it was gonna die out soon and little cringy kids would go back to playing whatever was new and popular, leaving Pokemon to die.
They were wrong
And the same was said about Minecraft.
They were wrong.
And now it's being said about Fortnite.
Hmmmm...

I mean to be fair, you can say that for a lot of characters on the roster or heck, even the current DLC.

:ultpiranha:- A generic enemy that no one asked for.
:ultjoker: -A character from a fairly niche series

Hero- A JRPG character from a series that’s extremely popular in Japan but niche to the Western fanbase.

Banjo- A late 90s platformer mascot that’s been dead for over a decade and unfamiliar to younger audiences.

Besides I’m pretty sure a lot people grew up with the anime.

To be honest, I'd probably say the same thing about all our current DLC selection.

If you weren't into "anime" high-school sim dungeon crawlers, classic long running JRPGs, or played a near 20 year old 3D platformer, it probably wouldn't appeal to you

There's nothing wrong with Smash picking characters without mass appeal. Remember, in Melee, no one out of JP knew who Marth was, and NO ONE knew who Roy was.

And now, everyone wants them out of the Smash franchise because of how popular FE has gotten thanks to Smash.

I'm bored
Recommend me a video game to play
Quest 64, of course. Simple rpg that's full of charisma.

Some other ones would be any of the six Smash Bros. games, Sonic Battle, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2(I'd recommend the updated Gamecube ports).

Anyways, didn't really grow up with Digimon, but it certainly is bigger than I think most people would give it credit for. Actually getting Pokemon v Digimon in Smash would be a huge deal.

Maybe I phrased this wrong- a digimon char would be cool, and people would like it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that most of the support for digimon comes from wanting the general concept of pokemon vs digimon in smash and not from actually wanting to play as agumon.

I played Quest 64 like a decade ago lol
I also played battle and the adventure games. I'm kind of looking for something new that I haven't played.

If I'm busting out Doom again then it's gonna be with mods, got any mods in mind?
