Yeah. Most of the companies who they contacted either didn’t respond or knew they had Sony over a barrel and weren’t very cooperative. Like, Square did respond, but they wanted them to use Lightning instead of Cloud and charged their typical hefty price per character. Same with Konami and Activision. And Sony themselves were very uncooperative with SuperBot, limiting the library they could choose from.I enjoyed PSASBR the few times I played it, but it does obviously have some pretty glaring issues.
The roster is kinda bland, like it's really only characters from games at the time with a handful of kinda more obscure legacy characters and then third party scraps, they don't really have any characters that put Playstation on the map (Spyro, Crash, Cloud, Snake, Resident Evil, Alucard, Grand Theft Auto, etc). Also, WHERE IS WANDER?! Shadow of the Colossus is, to this day, the best Playstation exclusive.
And the fact that you have to use super moves to kill, like that would be alright as a side mode, but as the main game's way of killing? Stupid, ruins the game's flow.
The thing I always say about PSASBR is that there’s nothing wrong with what’s their, but there’s a BUNCH of stuff missing.
Also, Oddworld Inhabitants got stuffed. They were being super cooperative and were EXCITED to put Abe in, but he (along with Dart from Legend of Dragoon) were supposed to be the third DLC pack which was cancelled.
And I admire their attempt to make their game more then just a Smash Clone with the super mechanic. And it works fine and is fun against CPU’s, but not against other people. I would really like to see them do a sequel and re-tune the damage system. Like, keep the three tired Super system but add in health bars or damage percentages or something.
