(Before I start, I would like to apologize if this is in the wrong area, I'm kinda new also... this might be a long story)

Okay, so here's the deal; I've hacked downloaded Brawl+ to my Wii nearly a week ago and started playing the new experience. Since the first game I have enjoyed the new gameplay (still needs a few tweakings of course) and the way Link can now play.

Pretty much that day I call up my cousin and tell him this awesomeness in a box and try to explain the finer details. Well, he goes and says that he doesn't like the idea of how they changed Brawl. And went on saying he probably won't like it.

Well, I thought maybe if he played it he might change his mind. Earlier today we meet up and started playing Brawl. The floatiness and lack of combos felt bad to me and of course I've been playing Brawl+ the whole week doesn't help. Yeah, I still won most of the fights but it just didn't feel right.

Then, I put Brawl+ in to action. We play a few rounds (his main is Marth). Five rounds of moaning was all I heard from him. I was quite astonish of how he didn't like... for the sole reason was that they 'nerfed' Marth. All of his old tactics he does in Brawl couldn't have been pulled in +. He hated the fast falling, the long hit stuns, and the delay in jumps (here I agree with).

He even tried playing as Ike and couldn't stop complaining. The only reason he doesn't like + was for the whole reason that Marth was 'nerfed'. I don't believe he's nerfed, I think you just have to find the sweet combos and positions. But alas, he finds it bad and blames the hackers for making Marth weak.

What I'm trying to get at is, should I blame him for not accepting the changes or should I try another method of getting him into it? I know Brawl+ isn't for everyone but it's the only version I truly enjoy next to Street Fighter and Blaze Blue as fighting games. Or is it that the guys behind the Marth modifying aren't doing a good job at it? XP

Personally, I think he's just being hard headed about it since he can't accept changes. You're opinion?

the jump delay thing is because of the buffer being at 0 instead of 10. (wont explain further, there are posts on what buffer is) good thing is is that you can change your buffer in B+, set your handicap to 100% to have the same feel as vbrawl when it comes to jumping and marth's double fairs.

show your friend some marth B+ matches or pick up marth yourself or play a fast character like falcon or fox. your goal is to impress him.

edit: oh and dash dance a lot.

When you say delay in jumps, it seems to me that you and he aren't used to the buffer value or you had his handicap set to 0% meaning he had 0 buffer on. Remember Handicap = Buffer, so 100% Handicap = 100% Brawl Buffer.

As for the delay in jumps, that is because you have not set a buffer. If you don't know, Brawl has a 10 frame buffer in which you can use a move and it will do that move as soon as possibly can in within 10 frames. In Brawl+, there are a set of codes that allow you to customize your buffer rate to your own select number of frames. Notice how the handicap is always there? That controls the buffer. Every 10 % is 1 frame of buffer, so 100 % will be Brawl's standard 10 frames. I would recommend using that, and try going lower if you would rather have tighter control over your character. That will fix that problem.

Well as far as him not liking it, the best answer is probably that it isn't for everybody. Glad you prefer the faster paced gameplay, but some people are naturally going to prefer the floaty and slower paced play of vBrawl. Don't give up on him though, there are 39 characters to play so you never know if he prefers another character over Marth in B+. As for myself, I find myself attempting to pick up more and more characters because I find their playstyle in B+ to be so much fun compared to vBrawl, with so many characters odds are there is at least one he enjoys :p Maybe show him some B+ Marth videos so he gets a feel for how Marth plays in B+ instead of trying to play him like it's vBrawl.

1. Rofl inb4CapehatesMarth. Oh wait.

2. The people who usually hate Brawl+ after trying it. are either:

- Playing it like it's Brawl. AKA being all defensive and thinking they can spotdodge dsmash and play tag for 6 minutes or longer so it's okay if they take the hit (<_>).

- So NorCal pro at Melee they're just elitist.

- Conservative to a fault. Don't argue with these people. It's poison rofl.

I'm gonna assume he's number 1. In that case tell him to learn it as a new game instead of *****ing why he can't Dolphin Slash The Cape all stocks.

Because you know...people like things they're good at. People aren't moved by logic and carefully picked arguments, they want to see results fast, they want to get good fast. Everything is fast.

Tell him Brawl+ is faster. =X

Oh god, I had the exact same problem with the friend of a friend. All he would do is complain about how high the hitstun was, and how he couldn't spam Up B to dair with Sonic all the time and win.

Marth is actually one of the best in Brawl+

Brawl has a good tendancy of spoiling people.

Tell him that he needs to learn to play Marth. :V

Marth was nerfed because he was overpowered. Now he's just overrated. :V

Show him videos on how to play Marf in Plus.

Scrub alert.

Marth was nerfed, but is still one of the best and most well-rounded characters in the game. Brawl+ was designed for people who were fed up with the stupid mistakes of vBrawl, so people who somehow LIKE it (and/or have never played a good Smash game) will whine like this.

Thanks, I didn't know about that. I must've skipped over it when I was skimming through the FAQ of Brawl+. Now that'll work my Link game even better! And give my cousin a reason that his character isn't nerfed.

Funny thing is, he's all of the above.

-He does huge defense tactics with Marth in vBrawl: shielding, ledge grabbing and waiting there, then when you're close to the edge he'll drop-jump and attack onto the ledge again or back on stage, and using the floatiness to his advantage when trying to recover or to keep the opponent at bay off the ledge when recovering. I mostly battled him off stage than the center, he's never a direct approach in the game.

-Yeah, he lost to me a lot when playing Melee. He didn't know the awesomeness of Marth until I showed him, he didn't believe me until I dominated him with Marth. Even when he started playing as Marth, I still beat him with Link. He was good but not good enough to think that he's all pro.

-And he's hard headed as well. He still doesn't believe me that Metaknight is the cheapest character. I can't really show him since I play Metaknight wrong.

turn around....
Sounds like your friend needs to register here and get involved in the Smash scene outside of you.

He doesn't want to like it. Don't try to force it on him. Although you might try beating him with Marth to show that he's still a good character.

My friends refuse to play it, same as in your case. At least he played some matches and tried a different characters. My friends only played 2-3 matches to simply look at the textures that I have. They called it "Melee 2.0" or something along those lines...

Ah well. What are you going to do?

Hehe. The ironic thing is that the best out of my friends at Brawl plays Meta Knight, Snake, and Marth. Dang Marth players...

if i have a friend whos unwilling to play B+ i call them a pansy and ask them to just try it. i even tell them to set the buffer to 100% if they want to be safe. so far everyone has enjoyed it.

they've complained that its too easy to play, but they still have fun nonetheless.

a quote: "Brawl+ seems like more of a party game than regular Brawl."

well.... most people who play it don't consider it to be more competitive.... just more lulzy.
I beg to differ. This may be true about your group of friends but i find it very improbable most people find brawl+ to be more of a party game. We took out tripping, sweet spotted edges, as well as balanced characters, gave players more of a reason to learn DI, greatly diminished stupid tactics such as planking and camping and also gave players better maps.

vbrawl was built from the ground up to be a party game. How can one say that it is more competitive?

A few things that have happened when my friends have tried Brawl+ :

1. They say, "Why aren't there any items?"

2. They never got gamecubes, so they were all pumped about the transition to vbrawl, and then realized its not very competitive... (and most characters have changed drastically since ssb) so when they try B+, they like the more competitive feel, but the code-loading makes them skeptical.

3. They all want to play free-for-all and so don't notice most of the changes all-together.

4. They all play ike or snake because of #3.

5. They then decide they may as well just play ssb, through some jump of logic i haven't figured out yet.

I find it most likely that he has the hater syndrome. And he is probably playing Brawl+ like vBrawl that's the problem with one of my friends. Or he never played Melee or is a noob with melee and as such when playing B+ he felt that he was playing melee again and just doesn't wanna play it. Or he is too used to vBrawl or he is just a hater.
