Yesterday, I said that for now I'm done with RPGs. I've decided to pick up fighting games again to kind of hold their place a suppose you could say. I'd like some suggestions of good fighting games to get into, I'm a fan of Soul Calibur and, of course, Smash Bros. What I'm looking for is a strong, competitive, fighter that's also n00b friendly. In short, something that's easy to learn, and but hard to master. I'm interested in Blazblue, and Tekken has my interest too, although I'm not a big fan of Street Fighter. So, any suggestions?

Let us bask in the wonders of YouTube.

They're pretty fun, imho.

Soulcalibur IV is kinda dead, and Namco kinda just released it and forgot about it.

Blazblue, Street Fighter 4, Guilty Gear, there's gonna be a Tekken 6 soon, and...Immaterial and Missing Power. <.<

Soul Calibur IV was disappointing, somewhat unbalanced (the Apprentice is broken, Yoda is so cheep that you could find him for half-off at the dollar store, and Killik is still broken after five games) and almost no one plays it.

It's been a while since I played Tekken, how was Tekken 5?

Play Blaz Blue or Melee.

Or go play Silent Hill 2.
lolmeleenub

I'm hearing a lot of good things about Blazblue (or however you spell it). The stylization looks like some kind of twisted cross between One Piece and D. Gray-Man.

Or I could just get my head screwed with by Silent Hill 2. I'm still leaning toward the fighters, here.

Actually, Yoda is the worst character and one of the only "non-viable" characters (Extremely slow attacks, can't dash, terrible back-dash, predictable, etc.), Apprentice is C tier at best, and Kilik isn't that cheap. Hilde is the reason they need a patch to this game, though.

Tekken 5 was okay. It introduced Asuka which made me happy. I hate all of Tekken's females except Unknown and Asuka. The new assassin girl looks cool though.

As far as the thing Yoda thing goes, that's just what I've heard. And yes, Kilik is that cheap, he's the guy that everyone and their dog mains online who has super crazy speed, damage and range. I'm not sure about the Apprentice, I just feel that he deals way to much damage. Don't know what you're talking about when it comes to Hilde, I've never really had a problem with her.

So, Tekken 5 was alright? I remember Tekken 4 being a joke, the last one I played that I can remember actually enjoying was Tekken 3.

Hilde has a 1HKO on the entire cast, and yeah, Tekken 4 was absolutely terrible.

Kilik is not as fast as some may think, tho he`s damage and range r the good things about him, yet he`s easily guard impacted lol. I never had problems with Hilde either yet, she`s pretty good lol.

Tekken 5 is okay, better than 4 but below 3 lol XD ^^

Some days I wonder if people on this forum know that there are other equally good (if not better) fighting games other than Smash Bros.
DO NOT PLAY ****ING IAMP.

seriously

that game is stupid

play melee.
Well, there's your answer. Sadly, many people on this forum just don't give many other fighting games a chance.

IaMP is dumb because of the lack of wavedashing obv.

LOL

I WAS JOKING

and just cus' i said melee I can't like other fighting games?
Yes.

And to add to that, yes, and melee is the obvious answer because we're on a Smash forum. You should try to be a bit more creative in your recommendations.

Here a Japanese tournament for IaMP. Isn't it beautiful?

So it's a fighting game in which generic-looking little anime girls with mage powers beat the crap out of each other with a verity of ranged spells and special attacks? Actually that sounds pretty fun, I should look into that some time.

They're not generic. D:

But yes, that's basically it. It also has a pretty interesting system adding to the usual fighting game concept (Grazing - that's the dashing with the blue shadows you see - the magic bar and spellcards), and is pretty much one of the best balanced games you'll ever play. With the exception of the joke character (Hong Meirin) everyone is completely viable. Since the game's a spin-off to the Touhou series, a shoot-em-up game franchise - it of course has lots of emphasis on projectiles.
It's actually pretty good for both casual and competitive play. It has lots of depth but isn't overly complicated.

The character designs really don't look like anything special, easily interchangeable with any other overly adorable little anime girl. But that's not the point. Taking your word for it, it sounds like a really fun game. I'll have to look into it some day, was it ever released (officially) in the US?

Touhou uses a lot of the "stereotypical anime girl" themes, lol. Maid, witch, vampire, etc.

Also, Dragonball Z Budokai 3 was ****ing AMAZING. Like, we used to play that game for hours non-stop. So much fun. @_@ SSJ4 Gogeta is always broken in the Tenkaichi games. That's kinda the point, lol. He's absurdly strong in the show.

Yea, but some of them are already unique simply because of their powers. A maid is generic, but a time-controlling maid flinging swarms of knives is everything but generic. =P

I would, but I have an allergy to ARPGs (anime RPGS). That, and I don't have a 360.
Oh, I see. The game isn't based on the anime, (since the anime came after the game), plus the story is different. Too bad you can't get this game, plus it's around $30 right now. >.<

Blue Dragon was horrible.
Horribly long? Yes, 80 hours plus is very long. Horrible as in the game, no. The anime? Maybe compere to the game, the English Dubs were horrible since it doesn't have all the character's voices from the game, the Japanese one was funnier.
