This is a really usefull thread, I have been practicing with ICs for about 2 weeks solid after a very long time trying to decide to play them, the main thing is that my friends say they are boring to play against cause I hit them with so many smashes, after a few games though they started getting used to them and I actually had to start using more techniques. I have had by far the most fun playing ICs even if they arent the best character. I deffinately see pottential to be 1-3 place though and I am enjoying the game alot more than I have in a long time. One problem I have been having is the dthrow dair combos, it seems that the timing changes depending on who you are throwing which makes the dair hit them wierd sometimes and they seem to float up kind of like dthrow dsmash on shiek only with less damage and no regrab. Any tips?

Wtf Sean, isn't ruling the world of Falco enough for you? Now we have just 1 more person to get in the way of thriving to be considered one of the top IC's (not really cause everyone in here is never gonna be good w/them and they're not in Brawl, but **** it let me rant). Anyways, all of life's questions, including how to play IC's, are in my vid (sig)...
In all seriousness though, the only real useful things in there (at least the ones I actually use) are: The ledge-hopped bair, the platform grab combos (just know how to do them cause most ppl make nana fall through), the charged grab smashes (particularly uthrow-fsmash, as ppl have mentioned), and the ff'er chain. Again, that's an example, just know how to juggle a ff'er, really only FFF (Fox/Falco/Falcon), especially if you're fighting solo and on a bigger open space such as FD. If you grab FFF on FD (talking about starting at 0), it should almost always lead to a very high % combo, given good DI reaction. The most practical one I've stayed w/recently is dthrow, usmash, followed by a running atk or grab, which you can repeat a few times (till high 30's/low 40's, I think). This is all of course if you choose to take this route rather than just cg'ing, which IMO is a lot less work and more productive if Nana's still by your side. To answer your last Q; the easiest way to get an utilt off of a dthrow is to do a running grab (also demo'd in the vid a few times). If you do a running grab while they're close from a standing position and grab them just a few spaces away from where you were, Nana will run past you for a sec, and during that time she's sliding back, input can be given to her (though it doesn't desynch you). The reason it's better that way is b/c they're most likely going to be DI'ing away from you, and b/c she starts the utilt right in front of you, it's more likely to hit. If you get a regular standing grab, I wouldn't suggest trying to utilt. Again, this is if you choose to not cg, which is better in over 75% situations IMO. Anyways, that's all I got for now. Nice to know you're trying out the chilly duo. Will be cool to see what you make of them. Post some more Q's or w/e as they come to you. Peezy...

some lesser known useful IC hints and tricks for you forward:

back throws:
a lot of times, chu just seems to back throw the person and proceed to edgeguard. it's all good, he's really good at it. but there are some quicker and easier options to get kills.

1. c-sticking back while holding a heavier character (falcon, ganon, yoshi) will immediately fsmash the person behind you. popo's bthrow puts 'em in perfect position to get fsmashed by nana, all using one c-stick command. useful if you grab someone near the edge but you're facing the wrong way.

2. this works on lighter characters too (most importantly fox and falco). but not with the fsmash. do a short hop and c-stick back and nana will bair fox/falco perfectly while popo's bthrowing. the knockback is huge because no one EVER di's it properly. it's **** near horizontal.

the choknater back throw:
3. if u grab a character and headbutt once, charge an fsmash with nana. while holding A, do an uthrow with popo and let go of A while popo is still holding the character above his head. this is a lot easier to do than it sounds lol, try it out. it can be very advantageous for these reasons:
- very easy to set up after a dthrow dair cg
- COMPLETELY messes up DI because your fsmash hits the person backwards (they're basically maximizing your knockback if they DI "correctly" lol)
- looks sexy

as for grab combos and desynchs: watching OC-Chu, infinite possibilites, and all those other sweet videos are there to inspire your own creative ideas. you should really enjoy making your own combos, that's the true fun of ic's. it's pretty boring to just do what people expect them to do, plus it's repetitive and predictable. these days **** near everyone knows how to smash DI out of dthrow dair. people see wavesmashes coming from a mile away. so make up your own stuff, that's what's important.

if you make up your own grab combos instead of copying other people, you gain these qualities:
1. you get a real good feel for both synched and desynched combo ability.
2. you can conquer supposed counter picks with proper improvisation (ganon, fox, falcon, marth, samus, luigi... they can be beaten. peach is another thing though.)
3. you find a real appreciation for how good and creative Chu is with IC. when you make up your own stuff, and then watch his videos... you discover that he's done it all before, and uses every possible technique to his advantage. i'm sure you've already experienced this firsthand.

some other tips...
- a lot of desynchs are unsafe. play a lot of falcons and you will quickly learn what is and what isn't safe to do when desynching.
- blizzards are A-OK. they can really help in a pinch
- don't play too defensively

that's pretty much it. put your forward mindgames and tech ability to work and you'll have a great ic in no time.

Hmm I don't know ICs really well... but is it possible to do sumting like desynch, make nana charge f-smash, cross your opponent with popo, then have Nana hit your opponent from behind?

lol I was playin some MvC2 yesterday and I thought about that

Yeah, it's possible, just don't expect anyone to fall for it.

I usually use that for people that don't sweetspot the edge. Just Nana drag to where they're gonna be.
