There's something about the shine actually hitting Marth that makes me unable to jump during certain frames of the shine or something. Obviously I can jump straight out of a shine if it hits no one, but once it hits it's as if certain frames become uncancelable. Help?

when you say not on a marth, you mean not on any target right?
you have to jump after the hitstun, meaning, the timing for contact and non-contact waveshines is different. so slow down when u actually hit something

Thats because when you hit an opponent with your shine, you have to wait for your frames of hit lag to subside before you jump out.

When you hit Marth with your shine, he flies away, and you get a minuscule amount of lag when you land the hit. During the hit itself, you can't JC at all (it's easy to see if you just pause the game as soon as your shine hits). You're just doing it too fast. Slow it down and bit and wait till right after you hit him to JC and start the wavedash.

edit: lovage you're mad gay. posted at the same time. : /

Yeah, now I'm just doing it too slowly for a waveshine-grab.

Just so I'm clear on this, it's waveshine-dash-JCgrab right?

Marth is the hardest for me to waveshine combo. You need perfect wavedashes.

Yeah, it kind of sucks to grab Marth, I don't have a ton of trouble but it does have to be a really good wavedash, especially if the Marth is DIing your shine away or up.

are you waveshining by sliding from b>Y? because if u do it as fast as u can and make contact with the shine then u hit the jump button 2 fast.
just do it slower

When you hit Marth with a shine. Marth does the thing where he'll turn his back and his shoulder will be facing fox. You're suppose to shine him during that animation.

uhh, marth's pretty hard to waveshine. The problem I have with waveshining marth is how far he goes from the attack. to compensate, I throw a jab into my waveshines, just to add damage and range. It's pretty effective, esepcially against falcons, but works just fine against marth. None the less, going for a full-on waveshine combo against marth isn't really a good idea. keeping the waveshine consisitent can be quite a task against marth, and there's a greater chance he'll break out and end up hitting you then you actually achiving anything. if you want to do shine combos to a marth, keep it simple, like shine-usmash/grab/whatever airal you can get in. I, as I said before, prefer the jab.

you can't "waveshine" marth normally, if you want to do it (it's not very good/useful) you need to WD out of shine then run and JC another shine

I'm not saying you shouldn't do this, but you don't need to run and jc shine. After the waveshine, you walk and shine. It works and it takes a lot less effort than run -> Jc shine. Then again, waveshines are virtually useless against marth. You're better off following up with a jc upsmash or something. The best I could do is 3 consecutive waveshines on marth across FD btw.

waveshining marths is such a useless thing to learn because there are so many ways they can get out of it.
1. Assuming you can't do frame perfect waveshines, you won't get close enough for the consecutive hits.
2. The Marth can crouch cancle your shines and if you can't read him it'll be difficult to get another consecutive shine.
3. The Marth can DI away

If you're going to follow up an aerial with shines, those are things you're going to need to keep in mind. There's a vid of a fox shining a marth and showing the difference in distance for each of th choices above. I recommend watching that.

you can waveshine luigi

wow the post above says that too, so yeah obviously it doesnt have to be "frame" perfect on marth and you generally just walk a bit forward and shine again, but i play mostly pal so i just thunders him

It's much better to just waveshine->JC grab. If you jab then there's too great a chance they will get out of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fFa_z9rJWY

I could've used a more recent vid as evidence, but I'm sure you understand my point.

I used to have a hard time keeping marth in shine combos as well, but as people have already mentioned if you get good at walking or dashing out of the wave shine you can keep comboing him. An alternative that i have found is to wavshine -> foward-tilt. This gives marth less time to escape your combo and between 50%-70% if you angle the kick high it will launch him with enough hitstun to allow you to follow up with a wavedashed upsmash. Also almost no fox does this, so your opponent probably won't expect it.
