I've been trying to do L-Cancel with Falco and I can't get the timing right. Is there an easy way to do it?

You have to remember that the L Cancel works only when you are in the midst of doing an aerial move.

so try this.

If you know how to short hop, SH then wait till falco is coming down, dont fast fall and then press A and then L almost immediately.

Usually when L cancelling people have their analog pointing down.

Once you can do the above, l cancelling with fast fall is much easier because you control the timing of the jump. practice makes perfect. practice L cancelling only neutral airs for now.

Hey man I saw your vid from your signature. Look at 0:35-0:36. You get hit by Marth and then you go into a roll as you hit the floor.

To do this, you have to press L and a direction on the analog (left, right, bottom).

EXACTLY like an L CANCEL.

No body told me that you had to press a direction. :/

lol I'm sorry but doesn't the faq on the board cover this?

the marth boards have had a few threads like these lately, we all need to sticky a "look here!" sheet or something...doubt they would look though.

For an L-cancel, you don't. The difference between a tech and an L-cancel (timing wise) is that you have you have to hit L/R within 20 frames of hitting the ground to tech (a third of a second), and within 6 frames (a tenth of a second) to L-cancel.

Some other useful information about it is that you don't have to press L/R all the way in to l-cancel, but you do to tech. I'd advise you to learn to l-cancel without clicking the shoulder button, because any time you press the shoulder buttons in far enough that they click, you can't tech for 40 frames (two-thirds of a second). Simply put, let's say you come down with an aerial, L-canceling by clicking the L button, and miss. Your opponent is oviously going to punish you. Because you clicked L on your L-cancel, chances are you can't tech the next attack.

Against some characters (Captain Falcon especially), missing a tech usualy results in your death.

That was as non-overly technical as I could get it :ohwell:

I will never tell. :D
You have to push L quickly so the shield doesn't go up. But I know it's hard for you and the reason why is because L is not a button. It's a ****ing trigger. So in reality you are probably getting the timing right, but the trigger slows it down by a second. That means you either have to time the trigger or push it faster.

Rofl. I'd totally look at a thread called "Look Here 'cause I said so!" thread.

Training mode has a feature that let's you practice at 1/2 game speed...

Use it... It's one of the greatest tools for learning to l-cancel properly.

I highly don't recommend this. Maybe only as an encouragement to show that you can actually L-cancel, or that you can actually tech. Cuz at first, i never believed i could do those things, but after seeing it in training mode, i tried and tried even more and eventually got it.

What you want to do is stay in the normal game speed and just practice.. Cuz you need to get the timing right. and for teching, theres an easy way to learn it. go to falco's break the targets, and after running into those square thingies that make u go flying right? go try to tech it off the side of the wall.

I saw it on a post on smashboards, credits to whoever made this.
