Snake and Sonic are guests in Brawl, they are third-party guests. I am curious as to why people think that they will stay in the series.
A majority of SSB4 fan rosters contain Snake, Sonic, Megaman (any), Geno, Mallow, Simon Belmont, Bomberman, Travis Touchdown, Ryu, (Final Fantasy whatever Rep... for some reason they don't think of geno and say cloud strife who has never been on nintendo), Rayman, Pac-Man, ETC...

anyways, occasionally, in a general roster, there will be: Sonic, Snake, Megaman...
my point being that the two "Third Party" characters from brawl will be in the next game... and there will be even more 3rd party rep. seriously people, snake and sonic should stay on the game that they were invited to play in. make room for more 3rd parties. (not that there isn't room)

Soul Calibur, a game known for 3rd party support, has had a third party character come... then go. you are not going to see Kratos in the next installment.

what i said above seems scrambled don't it? my mind was here... then i went to youtube... then i continued typing... then i did some other stuff while leaving this tab open... and now im done.

GGGRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
seriously people! they are guests.... im sleepy.

Let me put it this way. Snake and especially Sonic got people super-hyped for Brawl and are partly responsible for its, ahem, smashing success. If Nintendo can get the two characters to return for SSB4, why wouldn't they?

Megaman will (most likely) be in SSB4. It said in an interview with Sakurai some time ago, that he was waiting until the Megaman people asked to join, but unfortunatly, Megaman people were waiting for the same thing.

So most likely, he will appear in the 4th game...

Oh for crying out loud, if anyone from Square Enix is going to get in, it'll more than likely be one of the ones from the Square Enix/Nintendo sports games.
At the most I could see them referencing Mario RPG with the Forest Maze song and a few stickers of the likes of that Crocodile Bandit, and that games look of Mario, Bowser, and Toadstool.

But they'll more than likely keep Snake and Sonic.

Lol getting them to return will be no problem. Considering Kojima begged to have Snake in Smash Bros, he won't be going anywhere.

As far as Sonic is concerned, he's basically Sega's failing desperation cash cow who they've now tried to bag with Mario to get him back up to snuff. He's definitely not going to be a problem.

And of course since these two characters are big gaming icons, they'll be back.

well, then if snake and sonic stay, they will more than likely have more characters from their respective franchises in the next games, not to mention the alleged megaman.

lets say Super Smash Brothers 5 comes out in... lets say 2016. by this time, there could be more games and characters for nintendo's growing franchise. Snake, Sonic, (assuming megaman made it in ssb4) and megaman should and/or could receive more reps... how massive is this SSB5 roster?

for this reason, there should only be one character per company in a single smash game to lighten the load...

you know what? remember the whole thing about Nintendo X Capcom? well, it doesn't have to be named like that, after all it was simply an idea. it could be a game of nintendo's best vs 3rd parties! though id probly get backlash for thinking at all.

Nah dude, with growing storage space allows larger rosters.

Why wouldn't you want a huge roster?

Mortal Kombat Armageddon was awesome because every single MK character in history was in that game. Giant rosters are ****ing win.

i know what you mean, i liked using many characters from MvC2 that aren't in MvC3... Iceman, Psylocke, Megaman, Ken. but i am sill irritated by the guest thing... another thing that is irritating is the idea behind the "Original 12" of Super Smash Brothers that includes Jigglypuff... (don't get me wrong... its just that, s/he ain't special in the anime anymore the way mewtwo ain't the main villain anymore(well, in the anime that is))

Armageddon, had a massive roster that i would want for Smash but the thing is... in Armageddon, they took away fighting styles from the kombatants in deadly alliance and deception and gave them to one kombatant each...
i see that in smash equivalence as turning characters into semi clones; apparently, having 80+ characters... well, how much time does it take to make a completely original moveset?

If SEGA or Konami decide to have more than one character in Smash, outside of Assist Trophies, then they should take them from other franchises; it's not like they're low on franchises/ideas to justify putting in Shadow and Grey Fox.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind a huge roster, just as long as it doesn't end up too Mugen-y, with like 600 characters on a character select screen.
And MK Armageddon failed for the fact that you couldn't write 'Hell' (or kill or something) in your custom characters description XD.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a one of the antagonists from both games in SSB4. Such as Shadow, or Chaos. And from MGS, That Ninja Assist Trophy, or some other guy. (Never played the MGS games...)

I do not see why Snake and Sonic wouldn't return. For reasons above, they were successful in this series. Wasn't Sonic like the most highly voted character to get into brawl? Also, MGS3 is seeing a nintendo release on the 3DS. Include snake already on brawl and I wonder if those are signs of an increasing friendship between nintendo and Kojima.

Oh and Teran, even if you have more storage space to allow for more characters, it still requires more time to put them altogether. Brawl was pushed back for like half a year for development. Even if the development team was not pushed nearly as hard as it was in melee (citing that recent sakura article), it stilll took a long time to make brawl, so I think any large installments of more characters is slim.

Yeah but think about it.

They have the character templates from Brawl, and have a much more experienced team when it comes to developing the game (3 times now woo).

The real thing that probably made Brawl take so long is the new stages, items, huge soundtrack, and online stuff.

The game itself was kinda bleh though... Kreate Your Fatality? >_>

Besides, huge rosters have a price. Characters will get less unique or, as augostoflores has mentioned, less original movesets as well as a lower chance of maintaining good balance. Besides, I wouldn't even know what character to pick ;_;. (Which was not the case in MK:A though, Sonya ftw!!)

If another game would be made, I think it would be great to include Snake and Sonic and I even think they would do it again. Sonic was put in because of the past rivalries between Nintendo and SEGA and because he was voted number on the Japanese website. If more support like that would go to another 3rd party character, I'm sure that character would have a good chance of being included. But for me, I kinda like how it is right now. I like the amount of 3rd party characters and Snake and Sonic just fit too darn well.

No see there wouldn't be the originality problem with more storage space, because more storage space means more data, and more data means moar stuffz. I mean a DL Blu Ray holds 50GB of data, that's more than an average hard driveon a PC in the GC era. Consider how much they could do with CDs and DVDs, and how much they could do with Blu Ray. Of course that's if the developers aren't too lazy to compress things.
