With the artwork complete we have but a few more stages left in SmashCAP 1. This thread will be for all the spriting drafts and etc. to take place. Then, final submissions will be submitted for a sprite poll (much like the art poll).

SmashCAP 1 All we really need is the picture, but whatever.
Concept: Bulky-Offense Counter
Type: Water/ Ground
Ability: Levitate / Unaware
Base stats: 85 / 80 / 140 / 80 / 65 / 90 (BST: 540)

Don't forget! All global forum rules apply, and good luck to our spriters!

Well, here's my entry:

Edit:
Basically a mini sprite version of it. :p

Wait...you realize you have a good amount of time before final submissions are due right?

It looks good, being a minisprite and all, but I think you could kick it up by shaping it better, making the background lines clearer.

And did anyone else but me think that SmashCAP 1 should look more bulky-like?

I was thinking that the sprite should have its head downwards, but then I realized it'd look like DP Milotic...

I think that the sprite should be designed in the way that the artwork was done.

Unfortunately, like the art, I'll be unable to help out with contributions outside of my opinion, because not only can't I draw, but I can't sprite either.

Even though I agree with you Terywj, some Pokemon sprites have mirrored the art. Its not a new or terrible concept.

Wait why did Spire sprite the other artwork?

But they are good. :)

-Terywj
Because they deserved to be sprited for submitting artwork.

I'm currently working on a sprite for whatever-its-name serpent is.

Ohh. Okay then. XD

SmashCAP 1. Lawl. It'll be named before / after spriting submissions will (should) be done, so yeah. It's name shouldn't affect spriting anyways.

Do we really need a poll for this stage? I suppose if we get a substantial amount of entries, but it's not something that can't be decided upon in this thread.

Well there typically is a few sprites which will have to done in a poll fashion. But if say we have 3 sprites for SmashCAP 1 (front, back, shinies sprites included) and everyone seems to like a certain member's sprite work we might as just go with it.

Front, back, and shinies for male & female = 8 sprites total.

Do you have a preference for the Male/Female gender difference, or what you would like it to be?
Do whatever you want. I think we'll all come up with our own ideas and with enough sprites, vote on the final product.

Though I'm thinking perhaps four more teeth in the mouth.

Remember guys you don't have to sprite out all of the forms at once...

Oh and male/female sprites may or may not be necessary depending on if we really need to differentiate between the two. Of course if you feel there should be the need, then please sprite as you wish. :)

played with mewter's a little bit.

also some random ****.

edit: I still think the reddish one should be the normal one and the blue/brown the shiny. as a trench water snake fish thing, very earthy colors are much more likely to be seen than bright blue.

To be honest, I don't think we should differentiate with gender. If we do, perhaps smaller dorsal fins, but I don't see this being a poke that has a difference.

@Umbreon... in all honesty, it would be that the right sprite is better for the original, but two reasons are notable:

1) You said a bright blue. This thing is a rather murkier blue, and it can and does work very well for design.

2) As I found out when I tried to re-address the ability issue in the base stat discussion, what's previously been decided seems to be completely final.
Though I believe it's been going through many of our heads that Unaware as a second ability should be reconsidered...

1. technicalities aren't my thing. spire's original looks pretty bright to me anyway.

2. I am also wary of the stats/ability thing, but it's not my project. Still, I can help but think it has a severe case of umbreon syndrome on paper and that dual base 80s is set-up fodder. Just replace "fighting/bug weak" to "low spe def". Losing out on a potential Water Absorb just makes set-up fodder all the more appealing to things like Suicune.

This thing doesn't even LOOK unaware of it's surroundings. The only "unawareness" I can see is that it's anger/fury blocks it's critical thinking, therefore causing it to just act with fury and not actually consider it's actions.

That, and the fact that it's blind.

Or how this should've been discussed back when we were in the artwork stage.

Blind, Deaf, and can't smell anything.

I call that pretty unaware.

...so then, how exactly does this thing operate? I mean, what does it use to "seek" it's prey, or find it's prey in the first place?

Ehhh...I'd say that its body is sensitive to differences in various types of...I can't think of the right word for it, but essentially waves. This allows it to track its prey by feeling differences in the ocean's current and acting on that.

Such an explanation also explains its low Special Defense, as it would need this to be sensitive to such currents.

Deep sea creatures simply wait till something floats by and eat it.
Better question: since when has pokemon ever made sense?

Helen Keller was anti bulky offense?

Are we not allowed to open the artwork poll up again? That would make sense if people want the design to look more unaware (and who wants to be unhappy with the end product?).
