SmashCAP 1: [FINALIZING ART SUBMISSIONS]

Here's an updated design, fixing the mid-body and showing its levitate ability.

here's what I'm thinking:

this looks ******, but you definitely have the ability to make it more ******.

- fins are like the first set where there's 2 side fins and a dorsal fin for a total of 3. so IMO add another set of 3 fins to the midsection, and then a smaller 3rd dorsal fin with the last 2. That changes your fin count from 5 to 9.
- makes the fins serrated very slightly.
- move the current dorsal fin back to match the other two. visually, it doesn't look right.
- change the green to an earthy brown, darker and duller than the brown that's already on there. also change the white on the fins/belly to something like a medium gray.
-remove the nostrils and go for gills.
- and yes, make the eyes blind or glazed somehow just for comparison sake. IMO that would be completely ****** to have some blindly savage fish thing. The eel ish shape already kinda makes it look like a trench fish, so being blind is extra cool points.

Yeah. Rayquaza has the same fin-type formation on him.

An easy way out is to make him bulkier-looking.

Edit: Stat spread discussion thread has been made. Be prepared for some changes, most likely.

@ Umbreon

And then I changed the colors. I like this one even more. It's not your typical blue water Pokemon, but it certainly gives that deep, aquatic feel. I suggest we stick to this color scheme:

Try removing the pupil on the eye. That gives it a more "blind, unaware" feeling, in my opinion.

Edit: Both colors are great. We have our shiny coloring? xD

bottom for regular, top for shiny.

and yes, that looks beyond ****ing disgusting. I love it.

edit: "alert to sounds" on this thing would be sickly.

Zombie eyes will give it the unaware look that it needs.

The only Pokemon with Unaware is Bibarel. And just...look at that thing. XD

I also agree with Umbreon on the color choices: top for shiny, bottom for regular.

Wonder if they are other artists here...

Unaware does not necessarily mean that it's dumb (like Bibarel), it may mean that it simply does not sense such changes because its nature is restricted to hunting without regret. Going along with my drawing, it's a creature of the deep and as such, does not come across food often. It must rely on its genetic coding to be able to eat anything and resist those affects, hence it being unaware to such statistic changes.

So we're interpreting Unaware to mean something different than Bibarel's Unaware. Alright.

Not really. The definition of Unaware is basically not having the knowledge of something. As long as it's got something about its make that allows it to be unaware of specific changes in the opponent, it could have the ability Unaware.

@Spire: I don't know why, but I have this feeling like your design would look better with bigger (and preferably more) teeth. Don't ask why, it just seems like keeping the head to look so much like a snake doesn't fit now that you've started drifting more away from a snake-ish design with the rest of the body (i.e. added more fins).

Also, lowering the bottom jaw and making it stick out a little farther (not as far as in the original, but just a tad farther) seems like it could help in its design as well, considering its head looks a little small compared to the rest of its body. Or...was that intentional? :dizzy:

I didn't mean for it to look stupid, but I wanted to make it look more blind. Although the current eyes are gray, the pupil on it kinda contradicts itself.

In my opinion, of course.

I'm a little worried about how the pupil would show up in sprite form. It be difficult to make the eye clear to have cartiacts and not be pure white.

Spire, your design and drawing skills are just too good.
May I give it a shot? I don't have a tablet or anything like that, but I'll try to make one* using the mouse. :bee:

*Not a tablet, a drawing! : p

Edit:
My first submission:

It lumbers along at an average speed along land and can glide for short periods on its extended fins. It has no sharp teeth or weapons, so it relies on special attacks.
No name.

There were some slight mishaps with shading, but meh. :)

Sharpedo looks almost nothing like it. :p
I was actually expecting you to say "Garchomp".
Face it, if we try to make something that looks nothing like any Pokemon that was invented before, then we'll end up with something like this:

Wait, that still looks like Kabuto. :p
Anyways, what would you prefer to a shark-like look?

Mewter, that's sick! I'm inspired to draw my own rendition of it in the style that I did my snake-thing.

It still doesn't even look like Garchomp though. It looks more like the Zora I drew in my avatar than anything else.

I couldn't wait and took the liberty to draw it anyways. I changed the colors up a bit to give it a more "fish" feel.

It actually has slight light green undertones and obvious dark red undertones in certain areas, so by overlaying the yellow (the midway point between the two hues), it all helps to unify the design. The turquoise you originall included was kept for the sake of not being too different from your design and as a color, helps to balance the creature even more. The dark blue rings also contrast well with the yellow and red, balancing the primary colors. This is a good design.

I like it!
But the ring patterns would look better on the back compared to the belly no?

And how exactly does this thing levitate?

How do a third of Pokemon levitate in games like Pokemon Stadium? They just do. Of course it makes sense for something that does not have legs to levitate, but without the ability, they should be grounded like they snakes and jellyfish they are.

Note that every single "boss" opponent in pokemon battle revolution has at least 1 pokemon with double team. every **** one of them.

Nice job, Spire!

@Terywj: The ring patterns on the bottom of the stomach were made so that it would better camouflage with the sky when swimming above something, and the sandy color helps it blend with the ground below when looked at from above. :)

Edit:
I'd hate for this to be the be-all-end-all design just because no one made new designs or this one was overhyped, so are there any new improvements or ideas people have in mind?

Someone mentioned that they had an idea in the previous page or so, but I don't remember who or what it was.

No worries, this will be open for a good amount of time.

I have a question. I'd like to attempt to contribute to this but shouldn't base stats be decided before art is submitted?

It doesn't really make sense to me to try and draw something without knowing it's abilities. I don't want to step on anyone's toes but it seems that stats should be decided before the form of the pokemon.

Actually, a flounder is a really good idea too.

And Chill, this will be open while stats are being discussed. (As stated by Annoying)

Sand Camoflauge Flounder:

Looks too perfect to be water/ground

Also when they swim since they're like off the ocean floor if you see certain pics it makes me think of levitate

And with having two eyes on one side of it's body it looks really goofy imo, perfect for unaware

I like the flounder idea, too! That would make the perfect ground/water type!

Wait what, CrashIC? Is that Badgeolph... Sephiroth?
