Smashboards Pokemon: Weekend Tournaments!

Hello, Poké Center!

If the mods will allow me(I haven't asked for permission yet), I would like to start a series called the SWF Weekend Tournaments.

What are these, exactly? They are tournaments that are, well, held on the weekends! They will be similar to smogon's midnight tourneys: participants must sign in AND be online with that username during the tournament period. So let's say I were to sign up for the tournament: I would post saying "in it to win it" or whatever, while also being online with the same name(that of which being ss118).

So how exactly do we go about with this? Well every day we will be having a nomination period and poll period for the following things:

1) Tourney Type
2) Tourney Time

So let's say we make Monday the day where we do "Weekend Tournament Type Nominations". We'd have the topic open with just discussion on what type of tourney we would like to have that weekend.

Tuesday is the poll. So by Wednesday we'd have an idea of what to do for the tourney, giving everyone 3-5 days to formulate a team.

Wednesday we nominate times for the weekend tourney on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Thursday is a poll for the time: we may do multiple polls to attempt to maximize the amount of participants.

And then once we have those specifics done, the host will open the thread at the specific time stated by the community. If there is an issue(something comes up) with the host, there will be a second person who will be designated to open the thread in such a scenario. At that point players should have their team(s) ready for the tournament and be in a specific(probably CaP) server to play in. Once everyone is signed up, we randomize brackets and play till we have a winner. =)

Anyone disagree? Anyone interested? Changes you'd recommend?

Tournaments are essentially the only thing I play Pokemon for anymore, so this will be nice. I just hope I can be open during the majority of the specified times.

I have no quarrels with the rules. I'm just worried about how many people we can consistently get to do this.

I was hoping this would be kept separate from regular tourneys: if no one has any qualms we can start it this weekend with the LC tourney as the weekend tourney of choice, with tomorrow having time nominations and Thursday being the poll for that.

We won't. I'll be hosting the main LC, and you'll be hosting the Weekend Tournaments.

Also, the original intentions for the Random Tourney were to have each participant's team RNG'd.

yeah but that won't work because everyone's team was originally intended to be changed every round: unless everyone wants to keep the same generated team for the entire tourney: but then it involves way more luck than consistent team-building skill.

At least a random clause tourney keeps everyone even: if we do it the other way, the team more likely to win is the person who gets initially lucky with a good team instead of being consistently lucky.

This really doesn't warrant enough discussion to use IRC and stuff. Just have tourney ideas prepared by next monday: if you want to discuss among yourselves, post here or get on AIM/MSN/yahoo/skype/ whatever. Otherwise you have more than enough time to come up with an idea and tinker with it until monday.

I propose an OUbers tournament.

Basically, you make a team of 5 OU Pokemon and 1 Ubers Pokemon. The inclusion of the lone Uber into OU (or the forced inclusion of many OU Pokemon into Ubers) allows for a completely different metagame, as you now have to deal with a good portion of OU, all of Ubers, and the random assortments of Pokemon that now become entirely viable with the inclusion of even the single Ubers Pokemon (such as the weather abusers). The fact that this is basically an entirely uncharted metagame means everyone will be on the same playing field, and each game will be all the more interesting.

Oh yeah, I probably should have mentioned. If it's happening I propose Arceus to still be banned.

The reason behind said proposal is that it's not even allowed in Ubers at this time. It wouldn't make sense to let it run in OUbers because of that, even if its banning is purely in-game related.

Uber, because Soul Dew is limited to Ubers Latias.

Although if this wins I guess I'd also propose that we vote on the banning of Soul Dew. As it's mentioned in the thread I linked, Soul Dew could easily be considered bannable. Part of me just fears what would happen to Latios if this were to happen, and I'm not sure if voting for the sake of a simple weekend tournament would be worth it.

As of current Latias is OU without Soul Dew so you would have used your Uber slot with Soul Dew Latias.

This is probably the scariest thing I can think of to the OUber metagame at this moment in time.

And it's probably the biggest reason for me wanting to poll a ban (or really just Latios in general). Latias' existence in OU with one item and in Ubers because of another is the other biggie.
