Alright so I am no longer holding back in the slightest. Even Dark Schneider was still kinda well known, sorta. But now I am going full deep cut mode

Job #27: Jun Kazami from Yoroshiku Mechadoc
20211216_114349.jpg

Yoroshiku Mechadoc was a sort of racing manga that was created by Ryuji Tsugihara and ran in Jump from 1982 to 1985.

The series follows the exploits of Jun Kazami, a mechanic who works at the "Mechadoc" tuning station in Japan. The series focused on how Jun and his crew went up against rival tuners by tuning and fixing up regular ol' cars into stuff fit for racing and then, well, racing them! The series oftentimes showcased actual cars that were coming out at the time, which gave it that nice boost of relevance to its time, and the way it showcased regular cars being tuned up and raced instead of the extravagant supercars in other racing manga also gave it an additional angle of "if you get off your fat ass, YOU could do this to your car!" Indeed, the series actually did quite well, but never has been translated, not even gotten an unofficial translation - joining the wide oeuvre of Jump series that are beloved in Japan but pretty much completely unknown in the West. Still, it was successful! It even got an anime by Tatsunoko Productions that ran for 30 episodes! Our list of represented series, although pretty good, is still pretty standard, so I think it's time we do a couple deeper digs. In terms of references over the years, it's been kinda on-and-off. Jun and friends have had pretty consistent appearances in stuff like anniversary artwork, and I think it once got a shoutout in Bakuman??? but in terms of game appearances, it's been much more sparse. Characters from the series appeared as NPCs in the first one of the Famicom RPGs, which makes sense - that game covered most of the successful series that had run in Jump up to that point. After that, the only other appearance I can recall was when Jun appeared as a playable character in the 50th anniversary mobile game Weekly Shonen Jump: Jikkyo Janjan Stadium. I think it'd be pretty cool to get it in here as well!

As a mechanic, Jun is pretty much perfect for the assist role. He and his crew will show up and have two different functions depending on how the summoner is doing. If you've taken some damage, they'll heal you up, but if you're already at full health, they'll give you a nice status boost, increasing your strength, speed and durability!

Anyway yeah I cannot wait to pull out more characters that ****ing nobody else here has heard of. I live for that

Job 27 - assist from a pre-1990 series

I was tempted to nominate a character from a series that we already have, but the more series, the merrier, right?

Baoh (Baoh: The Visitor - 1984-1985)

A series by Hirohiko Araki of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fame, Baoh lasted less than a year. Ikuro Hashizawa was a normal 17 year old high school student until he was caught in a traffic accident and experimented on, transforming him into a biological weapon known as Baoh. Due to its short length, it's not well-known, but it must have made an impression since the main character was playable in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle on the PS3.

If we're sticking with two attacks per support character, Baoh can use the blades on his arms for his 2-koma version, or a laser cannon called Baoh Break-Dark-Thunder Phenomenon for his 3-koma version.

Job #27: Tsubasa Ozora

Tsubasa is a soccer prodigy, playing in both elementary and middle school before progressing to play in professional teams. He currently plays for FC Barcelona, and has even gone Olympic level. He originally filled the role of forward, but he changed to an attacking midfielder after being advised. As a soccer prodigy, Tsubasa's been able to copy the techniques of other players. When summoned as an assist, Tsubasa will shoot a soccer ball at opponents with variations of his signature Drive Shot. He can hit lower with the Miracle Drive Shot, higher with the Drive Overhead, and in the middle with the Phoenix Drive Shot.

Job #28: Saiki Kusuo

Saiki was born with the extremely rare ability to use psychic powers. He doesn't just have a few though; he has just about every psychic ability imaginable. This includes many you wouldn't expect. However, they don't make his life easier. In fact, they often make his life harder, as they often come with strict limitations, or activate without his consent. Telekinesis, telepathy and teleportation are his main abilities, which give him sub-powers of flight, illusions, and memory manipulation. He can also shrink down, generate fire, restore things to a previous state, use x-ray vision, and even project giant Spirit Bomb-esque balls of energy.

Alright, I think I’ve come up with an assist that would be pretty cool. This one is a bit more on the obscure side of things (at least in the west), but I think they could be a ton of fun.

Job #27: The Kisugi Sisters (Cat’s Eye)

D84CF050-B89D-4AA1-B485-4E30640A8558.jpeg

Cat’s Eye was a manga series that ran in Shonen Jump from 1981-1985. It follows three sisters, Hitomi, Rui, and Ai, who run the titular Cat’s Eye cafe in Tokyo during the day. Unbeknownst to the cafe’s patrons, these sisters lead a double life as a team of thieves also known as Cat’s Eye, primarily stealing art which belonged to their missing father Michael Heinz. Despite being on the lesser-known side of things here in North America, Cat’s Eye was decently popular in its home country. It sold 20 million volumes, received an anime adaptation in 1983, got a reboot manga in 2010, and even got a live action film in 1997. It also shares a universe with another popular manga series from Tsukasa Hojo, City Hunter.

When summoned, the three sisters will fly in on a helicopter and Hitomi and Rui will jump out to attack (Ai isn’t well adept at combat, so she stays inside the plane). Rui holds the opponent in place while Hitomi performs various karate moves on them. Once the assist is done, Ai will begin to fly away and the two other sisters will jump on to the ropes as they make their escape.

Also gonna resubmit Denji as the 2010’s character.
Job #28: Denji (Chainsaw Man)

View attachment 338289

Denji is the main protagonist of Chainsaw Man. Inheriting his father’s debts to the Yakuza, he’s forced to become a devil hunter for them. He’s aided by Pochita, a demon who embodies the fear of Chainsaws. The Yakuza soon betray and kill him, but after forming a contract with Pochita, Denji is reborn and able to transform into a chainsaw-headed and armed demon at will (pictured below).
View attachment 338295
I’ll admit that I’m not super knowledgable about Chainsaw Man (I’ve been meaning to get around to it but I’ve never found the time), but it seems like one of Shonen Jump’s bigger recent breakout hits that just makes sense to include here. Plus, the concept of fighting as a chainsaw demon is way too goddamn cool to pass up. He’d certainly be one of the more unique characters on our roster in terms of playstyle.

27:

Taison Maeda (Rokudenashi Blues)

The main character of Rokudenashi Blues, a boxing-themed manga created by Masanori Morita, which ran from 1988 to 1997. It is one of the best selling manga seires of all time. When summoned Taison will chase after fighters and attack using a mix of boxing and street fighting Moves. He will even ride his trusty moped, Chavez.

28:

Asta (Black Clover)

I admittedly don't know a ton about this series but I feel like be should at least be up for voting. A young Knight who wields a magic sword. Its a fairly popular seires and Asta did make it into jump force.

Submit a stage based on a location from a series that debuted from 1968 to 1989 and explain a bit about its origin, layout, and cameos (if there are any). Note that the following series are ineligible:
  • KochiKame
  • Dragon Ball

Any other series is fair game, regardless of whether or not it has a playable character.

Technically this is Dragon Ball since Arale-chan has shown up a bunch in that series, but whatever...

Job #29: Penguin Village (Dr. Slump)

This one kinda speaks for itself really. Think of Onett but with even crazier characters and you basically have Penguin Village. Admittedly it's been over a decade since I read the manga, so I'm going off of memory here. Senbei Norimaki can be going around with his inventions and Gatchan messing things up. Aliens and Suppaman flying around. If you hit a character they do a Toriyama-trademarked gag animation. Just to name a few :yoshi:

Resubmitting Southern Cross
Job #23: Southern Cross from Fist of the North Star
View attachment 340195
Southern Cross is a city that was used as the base of operations for the KING Organization, led by Shin. This city was intended by Shin as a symbol of his affections for Kenshiro's wife, Yuria, and it was from here that he controlled the majority of the former Kanto region. The city's population mostly consisted of slaves, who were forced to live and work there and were branded with Shin's emblem, the Bloody Cross.

I've submitted stages with extremely basic layouts so far, but Southern Cross would be a bit more interesting. As you can see from the image above, the wreckage-filled aesthetic of the city could lead to some more comparatively varied layouts or terrain. We could give it steep slopes, all kinds of platforms, etc. Shin and the four liutenants of the KING organization would stand in the background, watching the fight unfold.

Since we don't have enough submissions, we will simply have to make due and add both Penguin Village and Southern Cross.

Job 27: Submit an assist from a 90s series
Submit an assist character that debuted from 1990 to 1999 and explain a bit about who they are, the series they're from, and how what they would do. They can be either returning assists from Jump Ultimate Stars or brand new, and they can also be from series that are already represented by a fighter.

Shikamaru Nara (Naruto)

I figure that we should try to include a few more assists from series that are already in the roster, and as Shikamaru makes it his goal to support Naruto in Naruto's quest to becoms the Hokage, he seems like a good pick for an assist. As an assist, he could use the Nara clan's Shadow Imitation technique to paralyze the opponent. (if we're sticking with two attacks per assist, his level 3 could start off similarly, with him using his shadow to paralyze an opponent, but be followed up with him extending his shadow to attach explosive tags to the trapped opponent. This is finished with him tossing a lighter at them, causing an explosion)

Job #30: Katsuya Jonouchi/Joey Wheeler
Joey-removebg-preview.png

Katsuya is Yugi's classmate. He bullied him at first, but had a change of heart and became one of his best friends. He becomes a Duelist like Yugi, and supports him throughout his journey. He has a Deck with lots of Warrior- and Beast-Warrior-type monsters, but is also known for other monsters, like the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. As an assist, Katsuya can activate Chasm of Spikes to place a spiked pit on the stage, or summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon for a fire breath attack.

Job 30: Chrollo Lucilfer
1640180483292.png

In Hunter x Hunter, Chrollo is the leader of the Phantom Troupe, an infamous band of thieves and mass murderers that hail from Meteor City, a town inhabited by people who don't exist in any official records. The group's theme is that of a twelve-legged spider, so no matter what they always have 13 members - 12 representing each of the legs, and a leader, who represents the head. The group has no regard for anyone's life, and oddly enough, no particular desire for any of the material wealth gained from the goods they typically steal. However, they are fiercely protective of one another and will come for you if you hurt one of their companions, making them something of a dark reflection to the typical band of Shonen heroes.

But that's enough about the troupe - let's talk about Chrollo. Chrollo has been serving as the head since the Troupe's foundation. He's a very charismatic and mysterious individual. As a Nen user, he's a specialist with the ability to steal anyone else's Nen abilities and use them as his own as long as they're alive. He already appeared as an assist in Jump Ultimate Stars, but in this game, he would be truer to the source material - when summoned as an assist, he would pull out his Nen book and target the last opponent who used a special move. He would then disable said special move and gain the ability to use it until the opponent is knocked out. When that happens, he automatically disappears. He also disappears after about 30 seconds even if the opponent isn't knocked out, but he constantly moves around and tries to take them down with the special move he copied (in case this wasn't clear, here's an example: If Goku uses the Kamehameha just before Chrollo is summoned, Chrollo would gain the ability to use it). Obviously, this would have a very long cooldown.

I feel like Chrollo could also work as a fighter, especially since we're currently lacking in villains, but I feel like there are other HxH characters who deserve it more and out of the 3 major villains the series had so far I feel like he's the least suited for a playable role, but the Phantom Troupe is a pretty huge part of the Hunter x Hunter mythos so having him as an assist would be a nice substitute.

Job #27: Taro Yamada from Chinyuki: Taro to Yukai Nakama Tachi
5459346-taro_yamada_-_j-stars_render.png

It's finally time.

Lord help me.

So Taro! Who is this beautiful, beautiful man?

Taro Yamada is the protagonist of Chinyuki, a particularly intriguing gag manga that was serialized in Jump from 1990 to 1992. Chinyuki can be best described as a sick, twisted and warped version of the classic tale, Journey to the West.

Taro Yamada was kind of an evil dude. He killed people. A lot. And then defecated on their graves. It's that kinda series. But it's this violent and callous behavior that eventually leads him to being punished by the monk Genjo, who turns him into a weird....monkey.....baby.....thing. And now, he most journey with Genjo to the paradise of Tenjiku!

So Chinyuki was actually doing rather well in its time! But there was one problem: as has been alluded to already, perhaps Chinyuki's most notable aspect is its foul and depraved sense of humor. It was pretty gross, all things considered, so while it was doing well, a lot of people just weren't having any of it. Eventually, enough complaints came in that Shueisha decided to cancel the manga in early 1992, after 6 volumes.

And yet, despite its relatively short runtime, Chinyuki has made one hell of a mark on Jump history. It somehow just has that staying power in people's minds. It's acquired this bizarre sort of infamy/cult status that has made it a more noteworthy point of discussion in the Shonen Jump timeline than plenty of series that were longer than it was. It just....keeps popping back up! It got a spinoff! It got a sequel series! It got an OVA and a live-action movie! Taro keeps popping up in all sorts of just general Jump stuff! However, I think the culmination of Chinyuki's bizarre infamy was by and large Taro's surprise appearance as a full-fledged playable character in J-Stars Victory Vs. I have no idea how this happened cause his inclusion does not seem to play by the rules of the rest of the game's apparent series inclusion process - rumor has it that he got in thanks to troll votes in an official poll. Which is hilarious if true. Taro went down in history as one of that game's most interesting decisions, and while we could bring him back, I honestly have no real desire to do so. I think his inclusion was absolute king ****, but I feel like he's had his time in the sun. We've gotten our fill of playable Taro. Still, again, Shueisha loooooves to remind us that Chinyuki existed, so it's very much possible that he'd come back in some form. I think an assist role would be just right for him.

So Taro would pop up on the battlefield, and in classic Taro fashion, immediately get mad at anyone who he percieves to dare to doubt his greatness. He will then run around and bonk anyone in his way with his trusty bo staff.

epic taro yamada gaming moment

1. Taro Yamada from ChinyuKINO because he's our lord and savior and he has to be in this game and he's by far the best submission this thread has ever received, I'd say he should be playable but my god are we not worthy.

Job 28: Submit a Naruto character
Naruto is one of Jump's most well known property in the west and a hugely popular one with a beloved cast of characters. Naruto is always accompanied by a few more of his fellow Ninja in crossovers, and this game will be no different. For this job I will be asking you to submit a Naruto character and explain a bit about who they are and how they would fight. Characters who were in Jump Ultimate Stars, such as Sasuke, Kakashi, and Sakura, are allowed, but we will only be picking one for this job (though there will be opportunities to include more down the line)

I'm going to resubmit Hinata Hyuga. I feel like Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars could have done so much more than just focusing exclusively on Team 7. Naruto's got a vibrant and beloved supporting cast, so why not take advantage of that?

Hinata Hyuga (Naruto)

An unfortunate truth about Jump crossovers, and shonen manga as a whole, is that they're pretty light on women. Let's look at the previous games:

-Jump Super Stars: six female characters out of thirty-four (and one of them, Anna from Shaman King, can't be used in Jump crossovers any more since the series was bought out by Kodansha)
-Jump Ultimate Stars: nine out of fifty-six (and again, Anna can't be used now)
-J Stars Victory Versus: three out of thirty-nine
-Jump Force: three out of forty (DLC adds another three, for a total of six out of fifty-four)

While there's a lot of Naruto characters that I'd like to see (Lee, Gai, Hinata, Gaara), I feel like Hinata would make the biggest difference here. It also helps that she becomes a lot more important as the series goes on (past the point that Jump Superstars and Ultimate Stars covered), and by the end of the series, it could be argued that she's as much of a female lead of the series as Sakura is. (at the very least, she got an entire post-series movie that was based around her)

Despite being a quiet and reserved character, Hinata's got determination that almost rivals Naruto's. It doesn't matter if her opponent is some kind of super-prodigy that's impossible to beat - no matter how many times she gets knocked down, she'll keep trying to get back up. She doesn't get many fights due to the series' focus on Team 7, but the few that she does get are standout moments for the series as a whole, such as her fight with Neji in the Chunin Exams.

Hinata fights using the Hyuga clan's techniques, combining their all-seeing Byakugan with pressure point techniques to prevent an opponent from using chakra. This could translate into a character based on precision, patience, and spacing, or it could just give her a visually different fighting style from the likes of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, or Kakashi. Plus, getting into crossover stuff again, her fighting style's pretty similar to Hokuto Shinken from Fist of the North Star (minus the victim's head exploding in her case), so if there are interactions in the story, that could be brought up if you play Naruto's route and unlock Kenshiro.

Sasuke Uchiha

The heir of the Uchiha clan and one of the most central characters in the Naruto saga. These games have a trend so far of adding Rival characters. Sasuke just feels like logical choice for a second Naurto rep.

Job #28: Rock Lee
837C4566-4690-481F-B09D-DBD00325DF96.png

Rock Lee is something of an anomaly in the Naruto universe in that he’s a ninja who can’t use ninjitsu or genjutsu. Despite lacking this crucial ability, his sheer determination and passion while training under Might Guy has lead to him becoming a powerful taijutsu master that could stand toe-to-toe with his fellow peers.

Within Naruto’s massive cast of side characters, Lee has always stood out as an enduring fan-favorite thanks to his underdog status. Although he tends to be a bit goofier than most of the cast, he can really put up a fight when it’s time to get serious. A prime example being that moment during the Chunin Exams. You know the one. Lee also has the honor of being one of the few Naruto characters to get his own spinoff manga and anime adaptation, Rock Lee and His Ninja Pals. Of course, Lee’s fighting style would focus mainly on his taijutsu abilities. What he lacks in ninjutsu talent. he makes up for with his quick and strong punches and kicks.

Submissions are probably gonna remain open until tomorrow. Also, I figured I'll submit something myself since I am the one who runs this thread -

Job 28: Kakashi Hatake
1640582253268.png

I'm not very far into Naruto, but I can tell you this: As Team 7's mentor and Naruto's teacher, Kakashi is one of the main characters of Naruto. Kakashi is very laid back and is often seen reading pornographic books, but he's also strict and doesn't usually mince words. He's also an incredibly powerful Ninja with the ability to use the Sharingan as well as Lightning Jutsu.

Kakashi's only missed one Jump game so it wouldn't be unheard of to have him playable.
