The question that this raises for me is this: Do the villager helmets change based on costume, or player slot?

I believe it is player slot. At the Best Buy demo, the balloons were matching up to the corresponding player slot color.

Having to hack something to get the most of it, which still isn't the complete thing, isn't a good thing. Especially with virtual console/eshop and all that jazz this mode is rendered even more pointless than before.

Regardless, even if this Balloon Fighter isn't an extra minigame or whatever, I wonder if we could make it into one. Much like Texas's Brawl "minigame" with Snake. I forget what it was called, but it was mad fun.

Looks like nobody noticed what's really being shown... Here's what the stage looked like in the April Direct:

Notice anything different? Like, maybe the entire stage? This means either the stage has been redesigned, or will transition, or will randomly choose from a stage pool like Tortimer's Island.

Maybe Sakurai actually means what he's implying here and there's really a Balloon Fight minigame. It's not like that would be hard to implement, and it would be one more reason to consider buying the 3DS version.

Look that's cool and all but I'm sorry a Balloon Fight mini game is not something that's going to get people to buy the 3DS version, if they want to play Balloon Fight they'll either get it on an emulator or download it off of the Eshop.

Agh! I can't wait to play as the Villager. Ya'll gonna get tree'd! ...But I'll need you to stand right in front of me for about 10 seconds first.

Or you could just set it up as an edge guard tool.

I just realized something.

Maybe masterpieces will return, BUT you use the Smash character for them.
For example, you can play SMB1, but you play as Mario or Luigi (with SMB physics).
Or like in this pic, Balloon Fight with Villagers.

I think this would be a great misdirection/trolling toward a reveal of a hidden Balloon Fighter :D

I mean, I do not expect that at all after playing as Villager *unless his up special is indeed not that, which after demos seems just about impossile*
