Smash Wii U & 3DS director Masahiro Sakurai says "Pic of the day. Here's Dr. Eggman's machine, Eggrobo. It'll appear as a guest character in Smash Run and attack you with laser beams."

This was one of the cooler robots from the old Sonic games, infesting Sky Sanctuary. If you were playing as Knuckles in Sonic 3 or S&K, he replaced Robotnik as the boss in each level, giving him more personality than a typical baddie you'd pop in those games.

It would be cool if, before they appeared, you could see them whoosh past the background as a warning, just like in Sonic & Knuckles.

Word is his lasers are pretty huge from some folks that played it at Best Buy. Could be a challenging enemy.

I'm happy about this thing being an enemy instead of an assist or even playable... It would definately hurt me to see this thing playable instead of let's say, ghirahim or chrom

Yeah you definitly should, S&K (with Sonic 3, because thoses 2 games were supposed to be one, but were sold separatly due to time constraint) is the best Sonic ever made. Period.

I'm looking forward to see all of the smash run enemies at some point. This one in particular made me think of Dr. Robotnik. Not as a playable character, but maybe there will be a boss run mode, or he will come up in Classic Mode as a special challenge. I'm making things up, but it would be really cool to fight him in one of his big mechas.

If you're new to the Sonic series, but don't have access to the old Sonic 3+Knux collection, go play Sonic Generations. It shows this badnik off pretty good in HD.

Funny how I relate this guy more to Sonic R than Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Been too long since I last played S3&K, weren't they only in Sky Sanctuary, and one was Knuckle's boss?
In S3&K they were one of the most unthreatening enemies though, they didn't shoot their guns enough.

I prefer these eggman bots over the new totally orange eggman bots we have now.

Nice to see an old enemy. I wonder if we'll get to see some Slicers and Asterons from Metropolis zone. Mwahahaha :happysheep:

Loving how the Smash Run is getting more classic enemies than new original ones. I felt Subspace was hurt by all these new random characters, when enemies from all the different games would have made it a bit better and really feel like the whole world overlaps franchises.

There is something oddly nostalgic about stomping a goomba, then turning to blast a metroid. It's like those NES remix games, but better.

Agreed, subspace only had original enemies, Mario enemies, Mario enemies... Mario enemies... Um... It also had Mario enemies...

This isn't news to me, as I already saw Eggrobo in Smash Run, but seeing his trophy is awesome!
Memories of S3K flooding in. And one of my favorite classic characters.

I really REALLY hope Sakurai insisted on having a classic Sonic alt. costume.

Is he a boss or an enemy? Sorry didn't play too much sonic, hopefully we can see Dr. Eggman as a boss though.
