for the discussion of whether this confirms or deconfirms paper mario character representation, i have a question: are there any examples of a stage representing a franchise or a spinoff of a franchise, but there wasnt a character from that franchise/spinoff?

Well there were Animal Crossing and Electroplankton stages in Brawl. But even if paper mario isn't in the roster, the stage looks great !

they're both different links from a different timeline... so even you saw "toon" link from spirit tracks it dosen't rule out "toon" link from wind waker

I actually really like Sticker Star, other than my partner harassing me for using "too many stickers" every boss fight. I can't think of many game design missteps worse than waiting for you to have a pivotal, monumental victory requiring a huge challenge to overcome, and then pooping all over it by harshly criticizing your performance. Makes me think the point of the game isn't to have fun with the challenge, but to make sure you spent all your money on the giant super stickers to minmax your character and kill the boss in as few turns as possible - oh, and there isn't even a grading scale to back it up.

Even though it's my only complaint about the game, it's unfortunately a large enough one that I haven't completed the game because I'm just not getting enough satisfaction out of it. I really do wonder what they were going for with that decision.

I do like TYD better, but can't hate on SS other than that one (major) point.

Love this stage so much finally Paper Mario representation. And I agree with most here that this is probably the best way to do it for this series.

how would a paper mario character work though?
a homing/ jump attack like sonics? some sort of timing based attacks that increase damage if properly executed? maybe his specials could be battle item related, which could make him a bit like robin, maybe? and his final smash could be him summoning all of his various partners from the different games.

Time to say something that hopefully won't get me bashed, I hated Thousand Year Door and think Sticker Star was the best Paper Mario.

I for one think that Mega Man 2 is a trash game, and the best one in the series is easily Mega Man 8. The same goes for Fire Emblem, where I think Shadow Dragon is the best and Fire Emblem 5 is overrated.

Hopefully I won't get bashed though.

OMG, The Worst paper Mario Sticker Star stage (actually the game was ok) with the one the best paper Mari game! OMG!!!!

I'm glad that Paper Mario get some attention instead bunch of Trophie. As far, the 3DS have better stage because of paper Mario.

This Week will be pre-pre corocoro tour reveal. First takamaru and now this, this gonna be hype.

I hope this will indicate more Paper Mario representation. I wouldn't like seeing Paper Mario himself though. We already have enough Mario reps as it is IMO.

Stages mean nothing. .brawl had an animal cross ing stage. We may see an assist trophy paper mario character, I cannot see him being playable. Maybe as a weird alt?

People were not gonna get a 6th Mario rep especially when we just got Rosalina and said rep is just ANOTHER version of Mario. Thats just dumb. We got Yoshi too and are getting Wario soon to boot. No more Mario characters we pretty much hit our limit. Sakurai was obviously gonna give a big game series like Paper Mario credit just not in the form of a character because the Mario part of the roster is done. So he did it in the way of a stage. There was a balloon fighter stage wheres everyone's BALLOON FIGHTER CONFIRMED! Comments after that? They didnt happen because everyone knew balloon fighter isnt gonna happen and this is the exact same thing because we already got Rosalina no more now and if Paper Mario was gonna happen which he isnt why would sakurai choose him over Bowser Jr? Who isnt just a alternate mario and is much more popular to boot

Anyways im loving that sakurai gave credit to Paper Mario TTYD (my all time favorite game of all time) Love that game to death so kudos to him just wish that fart fest sticker star game didnt get represented but whatever. Also one moooore thing Is anyone noticing sakurai is really beating us over the head with the whole "Stage transformation/Moving Stages" Concept like majority of stages have this effect such as 3D Land, Rainbow Road, Reset Bomb Forest, Prism Tower Mushroom Kingdom U, Skyloft, Halberd, Kalos Pokemon League, Town and City and now Paper Mario. Even stages like Coliseum, Arena Ferox that change on the spot and we still have scrolling stages like golden plains and pacland To many stages "change" in the middle of the match we really need some neutral stages UNLESS you can turn off stage hazards this time around hopefully thats the case

I am a huge Paper Mario fan. Love all of them except for Sticker Star, which is still ok in it's own right, just didn't feel like a Paper Mario game.

I absolutely love TTYD. My favorite of the series and one of my favorites of all time.

That being said, despite me being a big Paper Mario fan, I really don't care if Paper Mario is in or not. If he is, whatever. If he isn't, no big deal either. We already have Mario himself.

I'll be happy for Paper Mario fans if he gets in along with Krystal.

Don't forget that "most" stages will have a Final Destination version with just one solid flat platform and no stage hazards so we can enjoy our favorite locations without feeling like they interfere with our fights.

The thing I noticed most was, "here's a Paper Mario...". Please note "a", which is not the word "the". Why? "A" does not mean it's the only one, unlike the word "the", which he did not use. ;p
