Uh, wow. Talk about off topic. Take it to the Social thread, please (just quote a post from here and post there).

More on topic: I need to find ways to be more creative. Thinking outside the box is hard. :(

Creativity is overrated.
In just SSB, or also in real life?

In SSB, creativity makes the game more fun. When I do something new that I hadn't thought of before, I'm usually proud of myself.

In real life... I would say it depends on how ambitious a person is. I'm an extremely rational and logical person, and I think that those traits are generally more important than creativity. However, there are so many variables and unknowns in this world that being able to think outside the box can be a huge help in making a difference. If someone isn't all that ambitious, then they can usually achieve their own personal goals without being all that creative.

The way I describe myself is: I think inside the box very well, but I have difficulty thinking outside the box. To compensate, I'm constantly trying to increase the size of my box.

I was talking about SSB.

Creativity isn't important unless it leads to better results. I would definitely agree it makes the game more fun, though.

I would assume when Star King says "better results", he means in terms of playing better rather than in terms of having fun.

There are two types of creativity, good creativity and pointless creativity. I'm sure that at one point Falcon U-Air to D-Air was deemed creative. On the other hand, something like U-Air > jump Falcon Kick is creative, but ultimately pointless. Playing standards are standard for a reason, and were basically examples of creativity that came through as both usable and efficient.

I can't think of any huge bursts of creativity I've ever had, except that time I worked out Link's hookshot faciliates comboing in the tent very well (before I saw it anywhere online), and that's become a standard for me.

Playing good players and being deviant isn't going to work too well, since they'll generally use the solid standards to punish you. I only stand up to better players because I learn to read them after a game or two.

But if you're playing better, wouldn't you be having fun (more fun even)?
Nah, your playing style and how good/bad are you doesnt have anything to do with having fun.

Uhh what? If you're playing bad, then you're not gonna be having as much fun as if you were playing good so it actually does affect the fun factor. A person who's playing bad will eventually get discouraged and not want to play the game anymore because they're not having fun.

They will only consider continued play if they start improving (playing better than before). When it comes down to playing style, that's up to what the person considers fun. Some people think campy gameplay is fun while others prefer aggressive approaches, so in a way you're right about that part.

Shade I think there is a difference between a bad player (what NixxxoN said) and playing bad. It's necessary to point this out because I know for a fact that bad players still have fun when they exclusively play other bad players. For example I'm not sure about Galaxy but in Desiree's we have little groups of 2 or 3 friends who only play eachother because that's the only way the have fun.

I'm sure there are other circumstances when bad player/new players have fun too.

I agree with you on play styles though.

The factor of playing well or not is only really relevant to how much fun you're having if you're playing to win. Which brings me back to why I hate that attitude...
Otherwise it's just slightly annoying.
