Hello all, Ronike here, bringing you one of my old favorite games: Smash Cards. For those of you that don't know, and I'm pretty sure that's just about all of you, here's an explanation:
This is a game that Clace began back in the summer of 2007. It is a game that I and a few others enjoyed quite greatly, but it suffered from staff that was just plain unmotivated and overworked. Therefore, it ended up dying off. Then Kashakunaki and I revived it and all was good, for a time, but once again the overworked staffing proved to be the downfall of the game. I have always wanted to revive it, but never really had the time or motivation, and I sort of forgot all about it. But now I have remembered! Yay! Oh, I guess I should tell you about the actual game...
OVERVIEW
Smash Cards is a game combining my two favorite pastimes: Yu-gi-oh and Smash. How you may ask? Well I'm glad you did ask! First off, those who play Smash, or really any Nintendo game, play Yugioh, and/or have a decent imagination can probably imagine their favorite character as a card, with different effects and powers. Well, this site allows a person to create any given card they desire, with very little effort. For example:
See? Simple enough. Now, you may be thinking, "Well Ronike, this sounds pretty sweet! But how do I get these cards? And how do I actually play?" Well I'm glad you asked hypothetical person!
GETTING CARDS:
Clace created a system involving Smash Card Vouchers, forever more to be called SCVs. There are a few ways to earn SCVs:
1) Playing a game earns you 200 or 100 points, depending on whether you won or lost.
2) Doing jobs for me (to be updated at a future time) nets you a weekly salary
3) Every week you get allocated 2000 SCVs to spend as you see fit
4) Every 5 cards you make (will further mention later) that are accepted, you will make 200 SCVs.
5) You can sell your cards for half their worth.
There will hopefully be other ways to earn SCVs eventually, such as winning tournaments, but this all depends on activity. Stay tuned to the end to learn how to get some bonus SCVs and another bonus!
Oh, how much is an SCV worth? Well, the pricing system for cards is as follows: the sum of ATK and DEF of the monster divided by 20 is the price. Effects add money based on how good I deem the effect to be. So for example, Bowser would be worth 175 SCVs. Magic and trap cards are priced based on how good they are. For example, a card like monster reborn would probably be around 550, but a card like mystical space typhoon would be around 150.
Playing the Game:
As to how you actually play, its fairly simple: you play with these cards just as you would regular yugioh cards. If you don't know, just visit the home site to learn, or here for a less annoying explanation. The only difference is that you don't need 40 cards to play, you only need 20 or your starter deck. There are a few stipulations to avoid cheating (such as 40 cards needed for an exodia deck or ritual monsters), but for the most part, all you need is the 10 cards you started with.
The only complication is how to play online with cards that don't truly exist? Well here's how to do it: first off everyone must list an IM account when signing up. This is the medium you will play through, so its kind of necessary... Now on to drawing: every card you own is assigned a number upon purchase. When you duel, both you and your opponent run a random number generator to determine the order your opponent draws their cards. For example:
See? Simple enough. Now, true, there is no real way to check if the other person is cheating, since your deck list will be public, but as a whole, this game is for fun, so who cares if you lose? For serious play, games will be assigned a neutral moderator to determine draws.
This may seem kind of confusing now, but play a game or two and it will make sense, I assure you.
MAKING CARDS:
Right now you can make item cards. These are our magic and trap cards. The cards still have to be approved, and the topics will at first be limited, but as the list grows, so will our potential topics. What I mean by this is first I want to have a number of cards relating just to brawl, then we can move back to smash in general, then nintendo in general, then third parties, then its open! Or something like that, it prolly will change as I go. You will see as we go. Oh, and you get 200 SCVs for every 5 cards you get approved.
Just so that this is understood, I reserve the right to change any past cards in order to make them fit with a further card. For example, if I later decide to have Koopa be a type of character card, I may retcon Bowser to either be a koopa type or be both a Mushroom Kingdom Resident and a Koopa. I will post when this happens, and what card has been changed. You are responsible for knowing the change.
Another thing of note, although it is possible to get the image from the yugioh card maker site and post it as a link, in the past, we had a problem in that the site erased the card after a while. Here are the things I would ask you to do if you would like to make cards to avoid this:
1) Register at the card maker site. They save the cards longer that way, and you have an easy way to go back and change the card if it requested as you can save the cards and modify them when you wish.
2) Get an account at an image hosting site. I personally use Imageshack, feel free to find one of your choice, but this one works well I find. Getting an account again causes you to have further access to the image and keeps it in the archives longer.
3) Save the image to your computer from the card maker and upload it from there to Imageshack or your chosen site. Therefore you have a backup plan, in case the image ends up being erased. Plus, it just seems to work better
Getting Started:
So now you are probably thinking, "Dude! This is so awesome! I can't wait to get started! Um... how do I do that?" Well Hypojoe, I'm glad you asked another question I made for you. Here's how to get started: You say you are interested in playing. Great! Now we are all set! First you post saying you are interested in playing, then you post saying you want one of the following 10 card starter decks:
Mushroom Kingdom
Space
Pokemon
Then, you get 2000 SCVs to start and you can get it started!. So hope you are interested in my idea, and even if you aren't, lemme know and please spread this idea around and lets get some people to play with! I hope to see you all soon.
IMPORTANT NOTE: DUELS WITH STARTER DECKS ARE ONLY 4000 STARTER LPS!
