Can you say sent to die? :( Why would they launch a game the same day as Smash! Poor Tales of Destiny Remake: Director's Cut. On that note, I will do anything to get that localized. I hear it's the best battle system of any Tales game @_@

Well it looks like it dominated. It doesn't look like it beat Halo, but that is still amazing.

It most certainly is. I wouldn't get your hopes up about localization. My friends and I played through it on Chaos and none of us knew japanese. Just go with the flow. We played Tales of Rebirth but just gave up. Now that we're all in college, we won't have a chance to beat it for another couple years.

DMC is a popular franchise. Why release it the same weekend as Smash?

That doesn't seem to surprise me. Wonder how long Brawl can hold the top?

I see Tales of Destiny up there too, very nice. (idk, it makes me happy to see that lol)

and what the heck. Why is Haruhi up there?

from what I know. the US Namco Bandai may possibly translate it. the Tales series has been gaining a lot of popularity outside of Japan, so I'll be happy to see ToD: DC here.

I haven't played it, but I heard the english dub was terrible lol, so here's hoping for a better translation.

Pokemon Diamond (820,047) + Pokemon Pearl (768,687) = 1,588,734 first week.
Super Mario Galaxy = 250,585 first week (yeah, wii games =/)
Dragon Quest IV (remake) = 597,301 first week
Wii Fit = 261,226 first week but it was sold out basically everywhere
Final Fantasy XII = 1,764,266 first week
Dragon Quest VIII was 3 million in 3 weeks >_>;;

So yeah, other than Pokemon/Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy, Smash is tops I think.

You can't compare a legendary RPG series with a fighter in Japan, you know that lol. Those people are nuts about RPG. They just can't get enough of those bunny legs, and oh, Brawl rocks.
You can. Just not Final Fantasy, Pokemon, and Dragon Quest. There's a law stating DQ cannot be released on a school day due to how much it disrupted schools and workplaces during the DQII release >_>

That's pretty crazy. It's nice to hear Brawl is doing so well though.

Shortages and initial issues with the game could easily cause problems with the number in sales. But either way thats really good.

Haruhi in third...? I suppose I really shouldn't be surprised, but it doesn't seem like it'd make much of a game. It was a pretty good anime, but not that good (though I'm well aware of Japan's obsession over it) and the style just doesn't seem to lend itself to a game, mostly likely another social/dating sim thing.

Enough of my meandering though, good to see Brawl's numbers are strong.

Maybe perhaps Brawl was released on the 31st on the part of Nintendo being a bit cheeky and fighting for the major Winter release date.

Btw, ToD Rmk: DC was created purely by fan request, or so the Tales producer said in Namdai's press release while at Jump Festa.

it beat halo in japan, by far. At least 10 times it's life time sales.

Also, isnt htat shocking that 90% of japanese 360 ers have Devil may cry 4?

Brawl has what Halo will never have, popularity in Japan.

I personally think that It will be very close between which game sells the most. You only have to look at the 1700+ gamefaqs forum pages to realise that this game is hyped beyond belief.

And so the domination of Smash Bros. Brawl began...

I can just imagine a cut-scene in which this large shadow stretches across Japan and proceeds to move across the ocean...

Will you people shut the **** up about Halo 3. Is that the only game other than SSB you know?

Haruhi sells in Japan for the same reason games like Hannah Montana and Enter the Matrix sell in North America.

wow! I didn't know those games made over a million sales in just one week in japan:psycho:
good to hear that brawl is doing well in japan. I don't know why but I think brawl will sell the same ammount of copies melee sold (in all its life) in just one year

Think about how fast after release the hype for Halo 3 died out.... Melee sold well throughout the cube's lifespan

Halo 2 and SSBM both sold well throughout the Xbox and GCN's lifespans. Just like Halo 3 and Brawl will. The "hype" dying out is like Pokemon. Just because it isn't selling 1 million every month doesn't mean it isn't selling extremely well.

Anyway, update. Super Smash Bros. Brawl has now hit over 1 million copies sold. This was done in just 11 days. In comparison, Wii Fit took 7 weeks and Wii Sports took 11 weeks to pass a million.

I'll update the post with the up-to-date tomorrow once we get Media Create numbers.

I just hope that for Japan it at least doubles Melee. It deserves to do at least that, between all the extra effort as well as the larger Wii userbase to sell to. The good news is that it's already well on its way to beating Melee's lifetime sales.

WEll, duh!! Brawl probably has more content than any game in existance! It crosses almost every entire series and almost every character shown (and I'm including trophies), it has the Nintendo Soundtrack of the decade, heck, it even has an entire, well-done story mode! Representation of so many Nintendo franchises alone will sell like grumblecakes (Poor The Cheat Cakes) because Nintendo's fanbase IS Japan. Plus, think of how much money was raked in through just the reserves! Japan's population is around half of North America, Brawl will probably sell like Wii has! Although, these extra weeks will give a fair amount of advantage to stock up. Hopefully people who pre-ordered (like me) will be able to get Brawl when they were promised because of this delay! let's see... 24 days left until the internets e(ngsmn)splodes!
