Well I just wanted to ask the community about smashbros 3DS which ive been playing since it came out
I have been playing mega man which has always been a character ive been begging for
whenever I try to do the slide attack 60% of the time he does the down smash and then when i try to do the down smash like 40% of the time he does the slide, 80% of the time when i push the block button nothing happens especially in online battles, and air dodge is just.... impossible to do online or not

is mega man just slow i dont get it ive tried 3 different 3DS and its the same, ive been playing smash since 64 and ive never run into something like this, this **** is going to give me an ulcer or something

Something similar has happened to me with a few characters (mostly Shulk), but not too terribly often. I think it's just because of the touchiness of the circle pad. Since I don't play For Glory it doesn't bother me much but I can see how something like that could completely muck up someone else's competitive fight.

I agree. The circle pad is so bad compared to an analog stick.

This is yet to happen to me so I can't say. Though 21lux is right about the sensitivity of the circle pad.

I have these problems with my circle pad too at times when i'm trying to do a tilt it does a smash. And in terms of shielding and air dodging, it could be a problem with your L and R buttons. The DSi was notorious for having shoulder buttons which collected a lot of dust which made them unresponsive so it could be the case with the 3DS.

Though for me, I've noticed that a lot of characters' moves were given quite a lot of ending lag. The character that comes to mind right now is wii fit trainer's smash attacks.

Honestly, I used to be a great Smasher (Although not professional) back in Brawl, but recently I don't know because of my bad temper, I keep losing online, especially 1 on 1, the my circle pad is not jaggy compare to my brother's new 3DS. And the a bit lag of move input online.

Everytime I do a smash move and try to dash A right after i always get another forward smash. I can no longer play online in fear of breaking my 3ds in a rage. Never had execution errors on melee and brawl. Its killing this game for me.

yea thats another thing ive noticed, i can no longer perform a dash attack right after smashing, ive actually already smashed one DS in rage from playing online, so i guess its time to call it quits on smashbros

The cow is right again. No seriously I love that avatar of yours!

Same goes for me, you see the 3DS one is a casual experience, while the Wii U one will be the overall better experience. I mean 8 player smash COME ON. That's AMAZING

Interestingly enough, I had no problem adapting to the circle pad.

Then again, this may be because I used to play against a friend of mine at Smash 64... using a numpad. Compared to that, any proper controls feel amazing. :p

I'm going to be the special snowflake and let you guys down when I say 3DS feels smoother to me than Gamecube controls and now it's hard for me to go back. I'm sorry.

Gamecube controller > 3DS controller

Everyone will unlock their true potential in who ever they main when they get an actual good control to play with, i see characters like Captain Falcon,Sonic(fast characters) benefit from this as the player will need to respond to moves quickly and move quick as well but its hard to do this when the 3DS can't handle it since more times than not you're afraid of breaking it.

I'm gentle with my 3DS but that makes me not play at my best since i always mid game slow myself down so i won't break it, even so my A button and back buttons are making squeaking noises even though i play gently with the damn thing. Then there's times where i do a tilt instead of a F smash thus ruining my chance to finish them off which tends to lead into sudden death due me and my opponent trying hard to kill each other.

I definitely at least want to try the Wii U Pro Controller once Smash Wii U is out, but I'll see how my controller taste pans out.

I run into issues with the circle pad, but it's better than I ever thought it would be. It actually feels pretty good. It's nowhere near perfect. Sometimes I want to Smash at the edge and I end up walking off stage. Or I Up+Smash or Up+Special and it peforms a side move, or when I do a side move it performs an Up move. This is when I get furious and worry about my 3ds.

I also block and air+dodge online and it seems like it isn't registering on time. I'm pretty sure I've got the mechanics down to know it's not on me. Input lag is the worst thing. I don't want it on Wii U.

It only tends to mess me up when I'm playing someone really good, and the match comes done to who screws up first. As mario I've had multiple times where I'd go for a d smash and get a d tilt, with dorf I'd usually want to do a d throw into up air sometimes he won't jump so I just get the up tilt which is the most situational move in the game

Circle Pad is the main reason I can't aggro as much as I'd like on my mains due to tilts coming out instead of smashes when I wanted it 60% of the time, whiffing, then immediately getting punished and even losing a stock because of it.

Granted I'll stick to the 3DS version well after November because of its convenience.

In the end, I think 3DS is fine for casual players like myself, but anyone in the competitive scene will definitely need to get the Wii U version (not just for new/better features but because of the controls). To me, even with this problems, I'll stick with the 3DS version just because it's so convenient to bring around with me everywhere.

I found that if I move the circle pad a little bit before pressing A, I can more reliably use tilts.

I am 6'5, i can palm a basket ball. So needless to say that i hate the tiny controls on the 3ds. Its impossible to play captain falcon with speed.

This is how to tilt :D
prep your directions before whenever able. It makes some more technical moves easier to deal with on the 3ds. Say you want to follow up your down throw with an up tilt? Grab, then immediately after hitting down to throw, flick back up and hold it there (assuming you have "up" not set to jump, which I suggest changing in the options menu.) Now you are free to hit your attack button when needed to pull off the tilt. The same applies for easier short hops into aerials. prep your stick in advance on attack strings if need be as long as they don't alter your directional movement negatively.

yes the 3ds is not 100% for me though. My problem is on tight moves from far distances like falco/fox/rosalina/etc. upB sweet spotting onto stage if you're at max distance of the special. Very much doable, but it's not 100% without an octagonal locking left stick. And on the annoying occasion you get a side special when you're consciously holding an upward angle.

I'm dying for a new G-cube controller.

haha fair point. Sorry for your trouble :/ I have bigger hands too (uh... piano octave with ease is the only reference I can think of,) so any smaller a control scheme and I'd probably have to concur. I don't have an XL but maybe that would be a decent purchase, unless you are just planning on toughing it out until the WiiU comes, or you have an XL and this point is irrelevant.

it's rough until someone needs the pickle/whatever jar opened, then it's gg.

but yeah,
luckily it's less than 30 days for that new controller and breaking it in... way too hype.

I know the feeling. I used to be really good at brawl [within my area/city where we had tourneys and such, good on the small scale] so to be sucking this hard at Smash 3ds against people that I know I can beat or have beat in brawl is honestly really disheartening. I've blown matches that I know I can win all because of BNF and how the 3ds version handles. I just find it impossible for myself to get used to. Seriously my win rate is garbage and I feel like a garbage player, though I know that's really not the case, it's just the system it's on. It's a john but it's true. The Wii U version can't come out soon enough.

well all this is not to mention that shield are greatly nerfed in this game
in brawl melee and 64 combined i think ive had a total of my shield being broken no more than 10 times in my entire play history

in this new version my shield is smashed at least once out of every 5 games if not more

Dunno what you are talking about. It works well for me.

Classic Controller > GameCube Controller ;'))
Nunchuk Combo > Classic Controller > GameCube Controller
So much more freedom for my hands. It's like switching to boxers from briefs.

Its always a good idea to master clean inputs with any game that requires precision. If you really want an instant clean tilt to come out you have to move the stick slightly to register the tilt instead of fully moving it. I do agree the 3ds circle pad isn't as great, but for now it's something you may have to get used to.

Regarding online though, it might be you or your opponent's connection. Some matches feel good while some not so much. Many have reported mostly bad matches, but personally I've had mostly smooth matches.

THIS

I do not understand people who smash and grind on the cp. The cp is so far from the GCC yet it is not unusable....only when my hands sweat or I am in such a tense matchup or moment that I stop focusing on my hands and what their doing usually ending up in getting too excited and using the wrong move lol

3DS controls are harder to use than GC, but this sounds like your 3DS might be worn out. I personally get Side Bs sometimes when trying to angle my Up Bs on some characters. You just have to learn the sensitivity to make sure your actually inputting the correct command. you might be pressing down too hard and at the same time as A instead of holding down or lightly tilting it. Practice.

When it comes to online it might be lag. You think you are hitting block/dodge in time, but you're really a frame or 2 late. Happens to people in every fighting game online. It's hard to react instantly due to very slight lag and sometimes you just had the wrong timing but are in denial about it lol

I don't have the same rate of error, but I do often find myself accidentally side specialing instead of up specialing with some characters.
