Smash 64 Ultimate Challenge

Here is a challenge I invented for Smash 64 Players:

In training mode,Yoshi Stage, stand on a cloud platform and wait for it to vanish, then use recovery methods to stay in the air long enough for the cloud to re-appear and land back on it.

In your video, show me as many characters as you can accomplish this with.

- You may not land on any other platforms

- You cannot have other players help you

- Any speed in training mode is allowed

-No gameshark codes or any cheats may be used

-TAS videos are not permitted

-Link's down B bomb does not count as an item!

The only ones I see it being impossible or very hard for are Yoshi Samus and maybe Falcon

I think it's possible with all of them with items.
Without items I've managed 5 of 12 characters. I still haven't managed to do it with luigi...

With perfect timing and 1/4 speed down B tapping, I've done it w/ Luigi no items and gotten very close with Mario

I've done it with Link, Ness, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, and Jigglypuff so far, all without items, all at normal speed (Link's down-B not counting as using items). I can almost succeed doing it with Kirby without using up-B at all... I just barely miss (also without items). Luigi, I barely miss... probably because it's hard tapping keyboard buttons really fast lol.

So that is 6 characters I can do without items, one I barely miss... and all the others, probably very likely that they can all be done with items (can't think of any of them where items will not work when the items are used properly... I did it with DK, that's proof enough for me lol).

are you using 1st jump right when the cloud disappears? (It's possible, isnt it?)

Fox: double jump, four shines, up+b

Link: get yourself at a high percent, pull out a bomb before jumping on the cloud, double jump, up+b, bomb explosion (DI can help), up+b again.

Pikachu: do the double vertical up+b, or close to it

Kirby: midair jumps + upb

Jigglypuff: midair jumps + rising pounds,

Ness: midair jump, up+b


I think you LIE about Luigi, it comes very close but I think it's impossible (same with Mario). I even had the brainwave of using TWO down+Bs, since the second one still stalls your fall slightly, and Luigi still didn't make it by like, one frame. Gawd.

I'll post a video of Luigi no items since everyone is stumped if I can get it again. I only managed to do it once, with the 1/4th speed, with the cloud becoming stable just frames before I landed

I've been trying luigi, but it's not working. Don't think it's possible. I did fox, ness, jiggs, kirby, pikachu, and link without, and everyone with. How on earth would you falcon it without?

I have done it with everyone except DK, Link, C.Falcon, and Yoshi. The secret for Luigi, Mario and Samus is to use a full jump just before the cloud disappears so you still have your second jump and down b to stay on the air longer.

To recap:

You can use your first jump if you time it perfectly and the cloud will still disappear. I'll refer to this as the "First Jump Method"

Mario and Luigi can do it if they use their first jump just as the platform disappears (yes, it works, just requires good timing). However, they come extremely close without using the first jump method.

DK only manages to come close with the first jump method, but doesn't make it

Even with the first jump method Yoshi can't seem to get it even close

Link can do it with Bomb jumping with his down B bombs

Samus can do it with the first jump method and some bomb jumping to stall.

Falcon - With the first jump method and falcon punches mixed with the jumps I can only come close, though it seems it might be possible. Another method would be the falcon kick as the platform disappears, but I can't seem to get it with this way either.

Ness, Fox, Pika, Kirby and Jiggs can do it without the first jump method, assuming Jiggs uses the rising pound and Fox uses the reflector.

Anyone can be done with items, just combine red shells and proximity mines correctly. Throw the red shell up when you are on the cloud, so it hits you while you are falling. Then land on proximity mines and recover back.

I barely miss C. Falcon. Here's how I did the chars (sorry, can't load a video):

Link: Brought damage to 999% using bombs (used savestates so that if I accidentally suicide at 800%, I don't have to start from 0% again). Stand on right edge of main stage (floor). Take out a bomb. Wait (timing is very strict), then jump to first cloud. Throw bomb up as soon as you land, and immediately grab another bomb. If done correctly, cloud will disappear as the first bomb drops down, and will explode on you. Double jump, then up-B (without moving vertically). Then the second bomb will send you back to the cloud (Link is holding the bomb behind him, so he will go back).

Ness: double jump, up-B straight up.

Kirby: jumps and up-B. For the no up-B, land on cloud, use down-B. As soon as the cloud disappears, remove the stone as soon as possible (preferably the frame the cloud disappears). Then jump 5 times (I use Fair with each jump... I think it makes you last longer?). Then, as the cloud appears, use stone at the last second such that you would land on the cloud. I have not succeeded the no up-B method, but have come very very VERY close.

Fox: Shine, Shine, Shine, Shine (mashing b while holding down), double jump, up-B. Very easy to do.

Pikachu: Go to far left (or right, but for this I'll say left) of cloud by rolling. Perfectly time a down-B so that the thunder hits you soon after the cloud disappears. As soon as you regain control, double jump slightly to the left, and use down-B again (down-B must hit you, but you must also move far enough to the left). Then, up-B diagonally up to up. It's not that hard to do.

Jigglypuff: Jump and rising pound.

My C. Falcon strategy (which I just miss with): Roll to the far side of the cloud, and face the middle of the cloud. As the cloud is about to disappear, use Falcon kick. Then double jump and use rising falcon punch. Then use up-B. I have come very close to succeeding this, but have yet to succeed.

Items: put a motion sensor bomb on the two end clouds. make the middle cloud disappear, hit the first motion sensor bomb, fly across the stage, hit second motion sensor bomb, fly back, recover onto cloud. Works with all characters at certain percents.

Noteables:

Luigi: down-B (mashing B), double jump, vertical up-B (where he goes straight up). I barely miss, but think it is possible since my mashing skills aren't very good (and I'm doing it at full speed).

I think that's everything...

edit: I did not read anyone's strategy before posting this... this is all from what I have discovered myself. Having read other strats, I'll point out that I never used the first jump as the cloud disappears strategy.

My item strategy was to put a motionsensor bomb on the actual stage and a bob-omb on the cloud. hit the bob-omb as the cloud disappears, and you'll fly onto the stage, but the mine will 'splode you back to the cloud before you actually touch ground. then recover until the cloud comes back. Works with everyone but Yoshi; I had to get inventive with him.

I did this with everyone right as i seen this post but i was banned. I did it with items for everyone besides 2 people, I also knew about full jumping as cloud goes away before jaimeHR, I just couldn't do it unless it was frame advance.
