This makes me think that he'll have some sort of behind-closed-doors thing with the press. I know that Nintendo will be doing those (along with the directs) in place of the big conference.

映像 (えいぞう/Eizou) Refers to either tv images or a video, not necessarily a trailer. 初披露 is basically the first showing of the video. Of course, this video being talked about would more than likely be a trailer.

Why would they admit such defeat?

The excuse they will come with is that a video is composed by multiple images in sequence.

Seriously, why wouldn't Sakurai and his team make a trailer for what can be considered the most important gaming convention, especially considering it's one of the most hyped titles for Wii U?
